Lagos and Ogun States are Giants.

We also have big guys Oyo and Ondo States(they can take care of themselves to certain extent).

Then we have Small Guys, the Osun and Ekiti States. These two states give me concern. We have solid minerals in these two states that we can invest into and earn cool money for the states.

As for the cocoa farming, the solution is rebirth. We need to uproot the old trees and plant new ones. The new hybrid plant yields about 2.5tonnes of cocoa beans in just 3years(actually it's 2.5years).

We need to make the two states work, things are not working in the two states and it saddens my heart that my Dear State(Osun State) is fast becoming an Almajiri State. Too bad for us in Osun State.

Things shall be better. We have low sulphur content gold deposit in huge quantity in my state, it's just that we haven't gotten a serious investor.

We shall get there, God help us.

To be honest with you,Osun state has what it takes to look better than all the southwest states except maybe Lagos and Ogun.I saw a documentary by Kunle Afolayan on Osun state Ooooh Lord I was impressed.I have no idea how things turned sour.I have my fears for Ogun too especially because of crime,If they don't find a solution to that,it might scare off potential investors.As for ekiti, I'm speechless! but funny enough a friend of mine who resides in Akure once told me Ekiti people have a higher standard of living than Ondo people but I can't say much about that since i have never lived in Ekiti long enough to jump into conclusions.

I agree with all you said about Cocoa farming,it needs full-time rebirth but how do you expect them to care when they're still recieving Oil money.Oil money wey sweet As per Osun state's Gold,go to Ilesha and see how jet lis are having fun there. I'm not sure if the state Government has enough power to mine their resorces,I think that power is only reserved for the Federal Government

Mimiko Unveils Shoprite Outlet, Assures Entrepreneurs[size=12pt][/size]

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, on Wednesday unveiled the Shoprite outlet in the state capital Akure, where he reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing enabling environment for small and medium businesses to thrive.

Unveiling the outlet, situated within the building of the new Akure Shopping Mall, located at the premises of the old Owena Motel Akure, the governor, promised that the mall would add value to the economic landscape of the state, stressing that it would also provide opportunity for domestic retailers to ply their trade through effective supply chain process.

He noted that the mall would create employment opportunity for the people, and assuring that its multiplier effect would boost the economy of the state.

He said “Looking forward in the next couple of weeks, the Dome will be back along this corridor and this place will be the commercial hub of sort. At the end of all these, our people will be gainfully engaged and the multiplier effect on our economy will truly be great. The excitement is not just having the Akure Mall, but about the opportunity for our local retailers to ply their trade and also about the opportunity for a supply chain that will originate from this state.”

Earlier in his speech, the Chief Executive Officer of Top Services Limited, the developer of the Mall, Mr Tokunbo Omisore appreciated Governor Mimiko for providing enabling environment for the project and also for fast-tracking every aspect of the contract agreement.

According to him, the mall will provide jobs for no fewer than 1000 indigenes of Ondo State, adding that entrepreneurs and small and medium scale businessmen would be able to showcase their products, especially farm products.

He said: “We were not disappointed at the level of preparedness by the Ondo State government for the take-off of the shopping mall. The state provided the enabling environment. I will describe Mimiko as a great city changer.”

Anyaoku urges return to regional govt


AGAIN, the national question returned to the front burner yesterday as former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku reaffirmed that unless she goes back to regional government, Nigeria may be embarking on an endless, fruitless search for meaningful development .

Anyaoku who was chairman at the 2015 edition of the Akintola Williams Distinguished Lecture Series held in Lagos , maintained that Nigeria’s quest to attain full potential in national growth and political stability would be possible only if there is a restructuring of the existing basis of the country’s governance, saying a return to regional government is the way forward.

For Anyaoku, the present structure is militating against the fast development of the country.
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi who delivered the lecture titled: Leadership factors and good corporate governance: Key to national growth and development , said that a continued deliberate devaluation of the public sector in order to paint the private sector as very critical to building national prosperity will do Nigeria no good.

Fayemi stated that to project a private sector-led economy in a way to suggest that the public sector is irrelevant to the quest for national prosperity will slow the pace of development because authentic economic growth is impossible without a competent public sector.

He, therefore, said that the way to go is to have a more seamless transition of professionals from the private to the public sectors and vice versa, as cross-pollination of personnel would only beneficially impact both sectors.
The former Ekiti State governor stated that there are clearly strengths native to the private and public sectors that could be harnessed and synthesised to drive national progress.

He, therefore, maintained that by devaluing the public sector in the name of promoting private sector-driven growth, Nigerians have failed to realise that a buoyant economy requires not only an exuberant private sector but also a virile public sector.
“In short, where the public sector is certifiably dysfunctional, private sector-led growth will be marked by fraud, graft and corporate malfeasance that are possible because of inadequate policing.
“A public service alive to its regulatory responsibilities and healthy enough to modulate the tension between the market and society is absolutely vital. Without it, primitive capitalism and unhinged profiteering will take root.”

He insisted that Nigerians must understand that there are spaces that can only be administered by a functional public service, as not everything can be privatised nor should every area of society be surrendered to the whims and caprices of market forces.

According to him, there is no reason business interests cannot harmonise an aptitude for profit-making with a high estimation of the common good.

Anyaoku had argued that instead of the present 36 mostly economically-unviable federating units with concentrated political power at the centre, the country should adopt six regions with substantial devolution of powers from the centre, thereby creating more viable national components of a truly Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The former Commonwealth boss said that regional government would also help reduce cost and provide better viability for growth and development.
Reviewing the paper by Fayemi, Jiti Ogunye said that Nigeria must distinguish between occupying political office and leadership.

He called on Nigerians to stop celebrating occupancy of office but leadership instead, noting that years after Obafemi Awolowo left political office even after his death he was still being talked about because he was a leader.

Reviewing Fayemi’s presentation, the Director General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Muda Yusuf, said that the rather large size of government was one of the biggest challenges of Nigeria’s economy, suggesting that it is important to limit the role of government to providing an enabling environment for businesses.

He called for a template to reward those creating value besides simplifying process of doing business because they are critical to checking corruption.

All the speakers at the event poured encomium on the celebrant, Akintola Williams, who clocked 96. They all highlighted how he has positively affected them through not just promoting integrity and ethical practices but acting it.

A former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Christopher Kolade, said Williams was a living example of good behaviour in responsibility, noting that nobody can fully capture his influence on all those who encountered him.

Kolade said that when the celebrant participates in anything, he brings distinction into it, recounting how he went to Williams for advise and how what he told him positively changed the ways he was doing things, helping him to build his carreer and life.

Other dignitaries present at the event include the Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, Publisher of The Guardian Newspapers, Lady Maiden Alex-Ibru, Chief Philip Asiodu, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, former President of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria(ICAN) Sir Ike Nwokolo, Dr. Adesina Folarin-Williams and Erelu Abiola Dosumu , among others.

The young doctor could become the first black African in space.

The competition is “organized by London-based talent agency Kruger Cowne in partnership with One Young World and Xcor Space Expeditions… putting this person in the global spotlight to help lead and promote issues of global importance,” Quartz reported.

“If selected, I will be making Africa proud as the first black African to go to space thereby making history in the process,”

16 year old Nigerian designer, tumisola ladega wins Jimmy Choo bursary prize

It was the annual 2015 graduation ceremony for the students of the International School for Creative Arts. Honorary President of the school Professor Jimmy Choo was guest of honour. Certificates were presented to graduating students and awards given to outstanding students one of whom was our very own Tumisola Ladega .

Even though 16 years old Tumisola was not in the graduating year, she was one of the two students honoured by Professor Jimmy Choo with a certificate and a Bursary Prize for outstanding work in Fashion and Design and for making such remarkable progress in the short time she joined the school for A levels.

Tumiila is a fashion label founded in 2012 by UK based young designer Tumisola Ladega. She was 14 years old at the time but decided she didn’t want to wait to begin her dream. Prior to this, her individual designs have featured in competitions from the age of 12. She has since produced a series of collections as well as individual garment projects.

Through these years her designs have graced the catwalks of major fashion shows and fashion weeks in Miami, Maryland USA, Lagos Nigeria, South Africa and of course London. As a developing label, Tumiila touches all areas, from high end couture to urban, and from evening to ready to wear. Tumisola is now 16 years old and her work has also had the privilege of recognition by the honourable Joan Burstein and Professor Jimmy Choo.
