It's $0.99 and it's a one time payment. He can never pay 5 dolls. When activating it whatsapp will tell you there is a 1 time payment and you'll be charged after a year . but I've been using whatsapp for years now and I've never paid a dime. And the last time i changed my phone (feb) I was told I have 6 months left and its been 9 months now and anybody no ask me for any money.

If you are in a country like Nigeria then you shouldn't worry about the payment, it will automatically renew itself. WhatsApp is free for some countries for now. Nigeria is one of them

My own just expired and i didn't pay a dime.. It has not been up to 30mins i just did it..
Its very simple,delete your account from whatsapp and re-register again...

I know they unwittingly extended mine for a year. I think I stumbled on one bug or something. Anywho, I finally caved in and paid £0.69. Plus, my mum kept bugging me to stop being a cheapskate.
