i cannot use those values to judge. they are misleading. until you show me the number of minutes played, the number of games played is useless. i have already showed you guys giggs played more games than lampard but lampard played more minutes than giggs. only amateurs use goals/games ratio to analyse players. i could play 5 games but spent only 20 mins on the pitch, you could play one game & spend 90 mins on the pitch.

rooney doesn't have a good goals record & the position he plays have nothing to do with his mediocre goalscoring ability. we have seen mata & martial score several goals in the PL this season without playing up top.

is ronaldo a centre forward? has messi consistently played as a centre forward? where have you ever seen them make excuses that their withdrawn position is the reason they don't score plenty of goals? a mediocre player is a mediocre player, abeg!

give us the number of minutes shearer played. the number of games is misleading.

rooney is a fraud!
and gimme a minute to expose this fraud this morning.....take your time & follow rooney's program of mediocrity aided by his country's media houses.

•plays as a #9 for 5 matches without contributing anything.

media: "we think his best position is no.10".

•plays 5 matches as a #10 without contributing.

media: "we would like to see him get a run of games as a #9."

•plays another 4 matches as a #9 before he finally scores.

media: "rooney proves his critics wrong. this shows he's still a world class player."

•next 2 matches he's back to his usual piss-poor "retirement-worthy" level.

media: "rooney has lost a bit of pace, but he can still deliver those fantastic passes in a midfield role."

•rooney ends up being our worst player after a few games in midfield.

media: "rooney is constantly being played out of position."

•rooney goes on a long drought without scoring. he ran at a pace of 0.25mph but he works his socks off!

media: "no matter where you play him, he will still work his socks off. he's still essential to the team."

•rooney is back in a striker role, but he still continues to underperform week in week out.

media: "rooney gets no service. on top of that, we need more english players around him as he can't understand those foreign players."

rinse & repeat!!!!

Hahahaha! Rooney don suffer.

But I totally agree with you. Its never Rooney's fault, there has to be reason Rooney did not perform well and when he eventually manages to do something tangible like scoring a rare goal, he is praised to high heavens.

I do not subscribe to Rooney being a fraud, but his recent form makes it hard for me to dispute that.

Rooney being a fraud should have absolutely nothing to do with his efforts and contributions to United before his recent decline since around 2012.

Happy 30th Birthday To Our Very Own Captain and England Best.. SIR WAYNE MARK ROONEY.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by funlord(m): 10:25am On Oct 24, 2015
angry

Wayne Rooney, as one of the most famous men in
the planet, has already, inevitably, been appraised
accurately somewhere. But the problem is, he plays for one of the most famous club teams in the world, and plays for one of the most historically important national teams in the world, and he captains them both. So he is always open to criticism!

As well as that, he was once the most exciting
young English player in decades, and didn’t look
out of place when compared to players from
other countries @ his peak. His excellent performances lasted longer than for any great English soccer hope in the last few decades. As good as Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand, and Ashley Cole were and also have claims to also be considered quite influential on the field, none were as thrilling as the young Rooney.

From 2012, though, it all started to become a little
prosaic. The speed went, the 1st touch went, the pace went, the power went, the
explosiveness went, the creativity went, the
passing went, and finally the finishing went. The
highlights became dulled, irregular and infrequent,
and life for Rooney seemed to be a plod that he
resented and also failed to understand. On the
pitch that is.

Off the pitch, he seems far more content than before, years after his first transfer request, and years after his second disputed transfer request. But on the pitch his decline has persisted. Why has this happened?

There have been a few suggestions. The first suggested problem was his approach to his diet and lifestyle. He has been pictured smoking. He has been pictured drinking. He has been regularly pictured smoking and drinking. He has incurred internal suspensions @ united for going out on the town when he should have been in bed or training. He even once returned from holiday with an injury overweight and out of shape. This has curtailed his ability, it is said. His body has aged ahead of its time due to his neglect, and the impressive physicality, speed, strength and acceleration has faded noticeably. That could be one problem.

A consequence that has lead to his goal creation rates plummeting! Rooney’s game has never been about simply
scoring. He’s played across the forward line for
Manchester United: out wide, up top, as a
withdrawn Number 10 and even as a holding
midfielder. Wherever he’s found himself,
however, Rooney has influenced the game,
either through assists or hitting the back of
the net himself. Rooney’s goal creation rate - the number of goals scored or assisted per 90 minutes played was remarkably consistent until last year,
hovering around one goal scored or assisted
every 90-or-so minutes played for 5 straight seasons. Both Rooney’s shots per game and key passes per game have nose-dived dramatically since the end of 2013-14.

The next suggestion is that he’d been overplayed. Rooney has suffered the strains of a career without a winter break. In the Premier League, with its extra physicality, And in a team that relied upon him more each season as the quality around him diminished, and the chances to rest him became far less obvious.

The fact remains that only 4 current EPL players have made more Premier League appearances than Wayne Rooney. While he may still be just shy of his 30th birthday, Rooney has already played a career’s worth of football. He made his Premier League debut as a 16-year-old for Everton back in 2002 and hasn’t made fewer than 37 appearances per season (in all competitions) since. Just look at the age and position of the other currently active EPL players who’ve made the most Premier League appearances: they’re all in their mid-to-late 30s, way past their prime (with the arguable exception of Michael Carrick) and are either defenders or defensive midfielders who've never relied on pace as part of their game. And Wazza's only just behind
them.

With no rest and plenty of action, and the occasional muscle injury, his body has started to let him down. He can no longer play as he did, because he no longer has the natural fitness levels, stamina or strength he once did.

The third suggestion is a lack of hunger. He earns $460,000 a week when all bonuses are activated. He is rumored to have a say in transfer activity at United, and his influence is obvious in the dressing room, where he is a popular man. He has won every trophy in England except the FA Cup. He has seen off Shinji Kagawa, Dimitar Berbatov, Robin van Persie, and Radamel Falcao. Perhaps, there’s no more fire because he knows there’s no more for him to do. He is on a hugely generous contract that he can be sure will be replaced by an equally fancy contract in the Middle East or America. He has his children and a wife and a secure future. Perhaps he doesn’t need soccer like he once did. There is no anger anymore hence his complacency!.......Andi thomas!

if the difference between what rooney deserves & what he gets is within the range of £20k-£50k per week, then we wouldn't complain.

however, rooney's current performance is not worth more than £50k per week & yet he makes £300k per week. players(messi, ronaldo, etc) who make rooney's kind of salary do not lose form.

You probably know this already but saying 300K makes for a better story.
Rooney salary is still the same £250K SAF agreed to,he just has control over his image rights and stuff I don't really understand.

he gets £250k directly from the club & he makes £50k/week from his image rights. the club bought his entire image rights for the length of his current contract & they give him a share of £50k per week from whatever the club makes with his name, image & brand.

if you hire a manager for your company & he doesn't deliver to the level of his salary, what would you do? you cannot stop paying his salary cos that would be a breach of his contract with you but you can sack him and get a more competent manager whose skills would match the salary you intend to pay him.

simple analysis destroyed your rooney image.

shearer & henry scored more league goals before age 30 than rooney did.

there was a football league before the PL started in 92/93 & shearer had 23 league goals then. henry had already scored 23 league goals as well before arriving in england.

add it to the tally on your image & it's clear that rooney's stat is a fraud. he's shytë & he will never be a world class player that the british media want him to desperately become.

Even Rooney did not expect that his present disgraceful performances will linger this long. We might have seen that Rooney was declining why did those that agreed the deal not see it. For example, last season coogar was on jones and valencia case calling them shite and almost everybody here started calling them shite too, now coogar has toned down his criticism of valencia and the perception here has also changed. Not coogar's fault though( I think he will be a great sales man).
As for rooney, no doubt his performance has gone down since last season, IMO, but that can not take away his legendary status in football. no matter the criteria you want to use to judge, he is up there with the very best of his generation. The only dent on his career is the three lion performances in different competition s which is not his fault alone.

he was still a decent player in 12/13 when we won the league. he offered a reasonable excuse that if he had played as an arrow head that season, he would have scored plenty of goals. there's credibility in that excuse cos he scored 34 goals the previous season(11/12)

moyes gave him the contract in 13/14, about 6 months after SAF left. RVP was still leading the attack & rooney was playing behind him. his piss-poor performance back then was excused that he was playing out of his preferred position.

Make no mistake about it, Rooney is a United legend and have contributed his quota to our success, but only one lying to himself will disagree that Rooney is now washed up and has lost his football intelligence. You need to stop being sentimental and face the fact - Rooney is overrated!! Sanchez for a lesser salary does things Rooney dream of. Rooney in 14 seasons has NEVER won EPL highest goal scorer. In his active days, other strikers have come in and won it and left. Even CR7 a winger won it. Berbatov that's never a success at United won the Golden Boot and Rooney was busy moping. In 14 seasons, how
many times have Rooney pass the 20-goal mark? Stop clutching unto the past and face the harsh reality. A striker earning £300K and scoring just ONE away goal in over 8 months should never be found anywhere near Man Utd.

In fact I question your footie knowledge if think we are the only ones wailing about Rooney. All over the cybersphere, United fans are agitating for Rooney to be benched. Don't you read news at all? Rooney is slowing us down. He's wasted. He'd be thrown away from United before he drags us back. He has won it all with United, it's time he leaves. And United fans don't like Rooney when compared to our other legends. The nigga was hobnobbing with our enemies. Let me give you a link to show you that Rooney will never TRULY be loved by United fans. Read it from English press' mouth so you won't come back here blaming us for Rooney's wackness.

Read this link in particular and see how Rooney lost it all.

grin my brother, believe me I know perfectly well what I am saying , I have been on this thread for about 3 years or thereabout so I am not generalising.
You are on & on about what somebody thinks but what should be on the table is - is it verifiable with what you see? {not stats crap}.

I still don't like Valencia even if I think he's not done so bad in the past few months. My problem with him was that he became a waste of space as a right winger & cost us goals with naive positional sense when moved to right back.

If four or five other persons agrees but only one keep hammering the issue, does it mean any different?

Player criticism is in line with their form over a sustained period. You don't see anyone calling Smalling shiit now even those that never believed in him from the onset.

It is more like the general perception that Rooney is a prick. The few times I have seen games in a public arena, it is the same sentiment shared. Who sold the idea to the public?

His "RECENT FORM" as you mildly put it has been going on for close to 3 years!
Yes, since 3yrs. In my earlier post I said he had started declining since 2012 only it is getting worse now especially as Moyes and Woodward colluded to give him that retirement salary while still playing. Playing rubbish for that matter.
