The crux of the matter is the loop-sided nature /unreliability of Stats-driven punditry. Yeah, some Stats might tally with certain obvious facts/qualities of certain players. However, the inconsistencies associated with those stats during multiple comparisons have... & would always be an issue.

We have seen instances whereby a "top player" X is adjudged to be better than another "top player Y" by certain parameters, only for us to realize that one rookie Z is actually better than both players (judging by these same parameters)...making mockery of whatever debate going on.

For me, the round-leather game is too complex for stats to serve as a major tool when evaluating a player's qualities & performances. A Neural Network with different parameters (in their hundreds or thousands) may work better in players statistical analysis but for me, I'd rely more on what I see with my two korokoro eyes.

my brother, believe me I know perfectly well what I am saying , I have been on this thread for about 3 years or thereabout so I am not generalising. For example, last season coogar was on jones and valencia case calling them shite and almost everybody here started calling them shite too, now coogar has toned down his criticism of valencia and the perception here has also changed. Not coogar's fault though( I think he will be a great sales man).
As for rooney, no doubt his performance has gone down since last season, IMO, but that can not take away his legendary status in football. no matter the criteria you want to use to judge, he is up there with the very best of his generation. The only dent on his career is the three lion performances in different competition s which is not his fault alone.

I don't get this "following coogar" of a thing. The other time it was a shekpe dingbat with that ridiculous generalization, WTF is all this? That the majority of ppl agree that Rooney or Jones or Valencia(in some cases) are not up to scratch doesn't mean that they r following someone's opinion and ganging up against another. You claim to follow this thread for 3 years now @n0m0 n yet you can't see Rooney's decline or Phil Jones's moment of madness on the pitch of play, instead what you see are "coogar's followers" who support his points like he made them. It's crystal clear for everyone to see including the ludicrous English media that Rooney is sh!t upfront, as an attacking midfielder n as a central midfielder, note the word "is" which means currently and not previously as you lot try to always remind us when defending him. No doubt he is a united legend n he has done a lot for the team n club but as of 2 years going down to this year, he has being declining at an alarming rate n yet El jefe for no just reason keeps playing him n depriving the team decent players who are either relegated to the bench or shunted to unfamiliar positions (same sh!t happened last season). There are folks here, in each thread that are seen as "old jays" for the folks who just started following this thread n so their valid opinions are taken up for arguments and analysis, I don't get all this "coogar followers" crap that every Joe spurts out when in need of attention.

If you notice they conveniently only included goals by the listed strikers from the "92 season" when the premiership began and ended it by the "certain age of 30" which automatically helps wazza jump the queue! They glady wanted to steer clear of the career league goals stats by all means!
