Yoruba artistes are ruling the airwaves. Can you even compare any ibo artiste to wizkid, davido or olamide.Maybe psquare sha but their time have even passed sef.The raves of the moment. are even yoruba artistes from kiss daniel to korede bello to reekado banks and many more. The music industry is the exclusive property of the yorubas.Shun bigotry and accept this cold fact.
Lol,reekado banks and korede that are under the wings of Don Jazzy a pro Igbo. Both artist will sing in Igbo if Don Jazzy wants them to. Before mentioning these people,i will talk about solid Nigerian musicians like Tuface and other musicians in his class.

Sing in ibo ko!Sing in hausa ni.If those 2 ever sing in ibo that song is not going to get past mavin studio. When was the last time 2face gave us a hit song,He is old and way past his prime.
Wizkid, davido and olamide are the 3 big things in the 9ja music scene currently every other person follows. You can take that to the bank

Any evidence to show us that this 2 are richer than the aformentioned artiste. And don jazzy thrives on the yoruba artistes under him.If he had the midas touch as you would want us to believe he would have turned his talentless brother into a household name.
Psquare,2face,and their ilks belong to the old generation they've been knocked off the block by the new kids

To be honest in entertainment Igbo and Yoruba are linked. You can not talk about the careers of korede and Reekado without mentioning a non Yoruba behind their sound in Don Jazzy. Even Kiss Daniel he is known for Woju and laye which are his breakout songs. The producer of both tracks is DJ Coublon who is Igbo. I'm glad there is collaboration in music and movies between tribes but it seems the net warriors are yet to catch up.

Can people for once rep Nigeria and not just their tribe?

Coming from the veteran actor himself.

Veteran actor, Pete Edochie, has debunked the claim that Igbos have hijacked Nigeria's film industry, saying they actually own Nollywood.

Nollywood legend, Pete Edochie, has reacted to a statement credited to award-winning producer, Wale Adenuga of 'Super Story' fame that Igbos have hijacked the film industry, saying "comments are free but facts are sacred".

In the concluding part of this interview with VANGUARD, the bearded actor, who is more famous for his role as Okonkwo in the TV adaptation of late Chinua Achebe's classic, 'Things Fall Apart', said Nollywood is actually owned by Igbos and so couldn't have been 'hijacked' as claimed.

"People are free to say whatever they like, but a fact is a fact. Who make up Nollywood? The Igbos. Who started Nollywood? The Igbos. What are the films you remember most in Nollywood; 'Living in Bondage', which was produced by an Igbo man; 'Rituals', 'Igodo', 'Ebuka', among others. They were all produced by Igbo filmmakers. I featured in about 90 percent of these films", Mr. Edochie pointed out.

While acknowledging that "Yorubas have always done productions in Yoruba", the veteran actor said "the circulation of their films is limited".

According to him, "If you travel out of the shores of this country today, people would want to talk to you about the Igbo culture. They would talk about the huge bearded man with a red cap and a walking stick" in apparent reference to himself.

In self-adulation, Mr. Edochie added that "There are those who spend all their time trying to run other people down. But like I said, a fact is a fact. Whatever you say about me today, such comments don't bother me. I am the only actor that BBC has flown into Nigeria to interview, and that was because of my infectious professionalism".

This advice is best suited for your tribalistic brothers, who keep claiming everything for themselves by not acknowledging the role that other tribes played in the success

Even the success of Aye, Davido's monster hit was as a result of the efforts of runtown and Tspize-two igbo boys. If you listen to people like Kiss Daniel, Inyanya,Harry songs and Timaya properly, you would notice the Igbo influences on their tracks.
When it comes to the music industry,it's a 50 - 50 thing,we can all take credit for putting Nigeria on the music map. When you start mentioning Korede, remember the people behind his sucess. EOD!

grin grin is this a joke? I asked you to name movies in the level of "tango with me" which cost about 100 million naira your daddy is calling "Rituals" that probably cost less than 1 million and no human being can remember watching

Igbos don't discredit others in Nollywood in fact they are welcoming. It is actually Yoruba's that named their movies as Yoruba movies and not simply Nollywood.

It is true though that when Nollywood became well known across Africa and carried all along from Genny to Ini to Mercy and the GH actors it was Igbo dominated....we all know. Does it mean other tribes are discredited? Of course not, but let us not deny facts.

It is supposed Igbo dominated Nollywood that was actually inclusive in a way that Yoruba and Hausa films never were.

Nollywood allows talent to shine no matter whether you are Igbo or even Nigerian or not.

I don't think any other tribe has any issue except Yoruba's because some seem to feel that Nigeria starts and ends with their tribe.

My dear psquare don't rule nada maybe before but not now.And all the artiste you mention are not even A-listers cos I don't even remember the last time this so called airwaves ruler gave us a hit single.

Half of a Yellow Sun, which is an Igbo movie was made with 8 million dollars, which is 1.27billion naira.
Even all Kunle Afolayan's movies combined have not reached 1 billion naira.
A yoruba man in the person of biyi bandele directed the movie so what are you talking about?
Re: Desmond Elliot: Why I Hid My Yoruba Identity From Nollywood by londoner: 8:55am On Oct 25, 2015
All have made contributions to film and music coming out of Nigeria. Some have been more instrumental at some time or another.

Building acting careers in Nigerian film known as Nollywood has definitely been the Igbo dominated Nollywood. We have major non Igbo filmakers too like Kunle or Emem Isong.

Music back in the day was somewhat Yoruba dominated but not anymore especially as Nigerian music and artistes have fan bases outside Nigeria so they don't view music with a tribal lense. They will sing Flavours Igbo words as well as Wiz Kid's Yoruba ones. Music entertainment in Nigeria is based in Lagos though but not necessarily solely consisting of Yoruba people.

Psquare have reached the stage where they don't have to constantly release songs or do collaborations. They have put in the work so that their fan base is loyal and will wait for any release from them and support it. I would say that of the modern day Nigerian artists they are the only ones to have reached that stage.

There is no other entertainment group like psquare whereas Wiz or Davido are the alternatives for each other because they pretty much do the same thing so they dare not go without releasing a track for more than 6 months.

True, but based on an Igbo book/story which already provided the storyline and characters. Both should be recognised.

Biyi made the movie because the war is something Nigerians don't openly talk about, yet still live out the hangups from it with each other. Even on NL.

What brain do you have? So a movie is produced in yoruba language what do you call it? Spanish movies? Yoruba movies far surpass Igbo movies btw, when I say "igbo movies" I mean igbo language

We are not as senseless as igbos who like to call a movie shot in english "Igbo movie" jst because it is dominated by Igbo cast
If we were we should be calling Tango with me, Phone swap, October 1 etc Yoruba movies even though no or little yoruba was spoken

Try to understand this maybe you can be lucky enough to get small sense

No, well if people meant Igbo language movies that is what they would say. I'm talking about the Igbo led Nollywood and I think you are aware that is what I am talking about. Those movies that built careers and fanbases of Nollywood actors and actresses both in and outside Nigeria.

I can't say if Kunle Afolayan's movies haven't reached 1 billion but October 1 was 300 million and he has produced and directed at least three other great movies of such caliber

NoIgwegbe:
The music industry cannot be run by Yorubas, because Igbos also run that industry. When your Wizkid and Davido release a music, they first of all have to go and prostrate for an Alaba marketer. Then the Igbo marketer will determine how far his music goes. How much money he generates, to even have enough to produce the next album. Yes endorsements are great, but when you are starting, your musci career is in the hands of an Igbo marketer somewhere.
Ask Dbanj, is he not singing, but Igbo Don Jazzy is gone, who will market his music? He probabl does not have a good rapport with the marketer.
So it is not enough to release your music on trace, and sign a few endorsements. You need the marketers to get that music into every home, so without the Igbos, there is no music industry.
Ask Flavour, PSquare, Tu Face, Phyno, and these days, most Yorubas add one or two Igbo words to their music, to make the Igbos willling to make them rich, or their career ends before it even begins. Kapish.
grin grin grin grin This oponu is talking of Alaba marketers that pay the yoruba land owners homage every morning
Go ask ladipo people what happened to them when they messed up

Anyway I doubt big players like Davido, D'banj, Wiz kid, Olamide, seyi shay etc need Alaba boys

But igbo artists don't just add one or two yoruba words, they bath their songs with yoruba lines

It is wrong to refer to a movie shot in english language with non igbo contributions, as "igbo movie"
I don't know what little intelligence ur people have but yorubas don't do that. . We cannot be calling October 1 a yoruba movie

If you still don't get this then you are lost
