Good point, but I gave the advise based on what the guy said: according to him, he was trying to avoid making the same grave error he had made in the past. Looking at the meagreness of the sum he had, I realized that the guy hadn't learn his lesson yet, he's not thinking long term at all.

Now, I'm not the sort of person to point a person to a direction I wouldn't go myself, hence, I gave him a much better alternative, an alternative which might seem too hard a task to negotiate at the onset, but would benefit him immensely at the end. Good things don't come cheap.
