In as much as using aircrafts to patrol our borders by the NCS is a commendable effort I still blv that a UAV I e an unmanned aerial vehicle can do a better job of patrolling our borders , now let's look at the mechanics of a manned aircraft over UAVS firstly it will cost more 10 million dollars to purchase a cessna similar to the one the customs r using aside from d cost u will need pilots to fly the plane , grounds crew men for maintenance all these put together costs money , the pilots stand th e risks of either losing their lives and limbs in the event of a crash [God forbid ] instead we can purchase drones from israel or china from what I can gather it costs roughly less than 2 million dollrs to purchase a wing long drone frm china or a ch4 drone these drones can stay in the sky with their high definition cameras for more than 30 hrs that means they can stay longer in the sky compared to a manned aircraft and the risk of losing lives is non existent cos the pilots r controlin d drone frm a control room just my 2

Those using jets all over Nigeria now were the same ones accusing GEJ of wasting money on air-crafts. Instead of Bubu selling what he accused Jonathan of wasting money on, he's busy flying them with reckless abandon.
Oga, the Nigerian customs, like the Police and other vital institutions, need surveillance jets (not even one) more than any institution in the country.

The Federal Government has purchased an aeroplane for the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) at a cost of N1.73 billion.

The purchase is part of a bid to boost the capacity of the agency in regards to curbing smuggling on the country’s border.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Minister of Finance, who commissioned the new aircraft on Friday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, said it would help the Customs Service to strengthen aerial surveillance of the various terrains along the country’s borders.

Okonjo-Iweala congratulated the Comptroller General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko, on the acquisition of the aircraft and urged the agency to work harder in order achieve better results for the country.

“The aircraft is an investment for which the country expects good returns,” she said.

“The terrain around the country’s borders includes difficult-to-access riverine and mountainous areas, which make monitoring and combating of the activities of the borders challenging. Several customs personnel have lost their lives or sustained injuries during attacks by smugglers in recent times.”

The two engine 12-seater aircraft with registration number 5N-DIA,which can fly up to 45,000 ft in altitude, will be captained by Kuhi Mbaya.

Captain Mbaya disclosed that the plane is fitted with the state-of-the-art equipment and could fly long distances, revealing that he flew the plane from Kansas City, in the United States and refuelled in Spain, before arriving Abuja.

Dikko said the aircraft would be used for the benefit of the customs in enhancing its revenue collection and surveillance around the borders.
The ceremony was honoured by the deputy controllers general, air force chiefs and members of paramilitary organizations.

This jet was bought by GEJ back in 2012 so exactly what's PMB got to do with it?

A highspeed Jet for border patrol? Whatever happened to using Helicopters which can land anywhere? Nigeria has got it's priorities misplaced! In truth, this jet isn't meant for border patrol, it's meant for those luxurious travels for those comptrollers...What was used in procuring that jet would buy 3 good helicopters that would effectively carry out border patrol as well as border security; But then again, what do I know *eats popcorn*

That is Nigeria for you. They always turn logic on its head. They know its luxury jets for their personal aggrandizement but they want us to believe they were purchased for surveilance

Wait please! did you say this is for BORDER PATROL grin grin grin . This is a luxury aircraft (private jet) and not patrol aircraft, no doubt it is for the Comptroller General. With the altitude at which jets cruise, this can do no shit at the border. If the customs is really serious about protecting the borders, they would rather things like helicopters, drones, hovercraft, etc and not a private jet. Do you even think that one aircraft is enough to patrol the length and breadth of Nigeria's border? Please think again

Spot on.

It will reduce the number of border patrol manned aircrafts

You mean they diverted and stole money for helicopter and instead bought a jet with the stolen money, then turn around, paint the jet in government color and donated the jet to the government/Nigerian customs?

2 year old baby get sense pass you unintelligent jesters...

Aresa, which ever way you chose to twist or read meaning to my opinion is OK by me regardless how pissed you seem. I'm not bothered really.

I admit I didn't see the logo on that Cessna tail with the NCS Inscription and for that I withdraw the ' diversion of fund' aspect.

However , the 2012 article you kept posting to support the purchase and use of a Cessna luxury jet for border patrol placed the joke on you.
You can sing that you rhyme " US and Australia" uses Cessna for border patrol all you want but it won't fly. Clearly that Cessna jet been used by NCS " top brasses" is no more than a luxurious jet.

Give us facts with particular to that jets accessories supporting it been designed and remodelled for border patrol and surveillance to buttress your pointers and not corrupt government statement releases. Until then.....

1. It is not a private jet, it belongs to the FG (NCS)
2. It is equipped for surveillance (except if GEJ lied to us)
3. You need an aircraft for border patrol and not helicopter.
dats not true. If u need a jet it should b fighter jets. If Dis get spots an irregularity Wat will be it's first response.

To start with. GEJ bought the Jet back in 2012 to carry out basic and routine customs surveillance operation as expressed by NOI who commissioned the jet and also as expressed by the Nigeria customs.

The phrase Luxury jet is your own ignorant rendition of the facts and not reality since there is nothing luxury about a common customs operation jet.

The Nigerian government and the Nigerian customs bought and equipped the plane primarily for customs surveillance activities so the burden is really on you to prove them wrong with your own facts if you have any beyond your meaningless and factless rants...

Private means privately owned by an individual, but this jet belongs to the federal government, bought and paid for by the Nigerian public and taxpayers so it is not a private jet.

This is an operational aircraft bought and equipped to carry out official customs operations.

You ignorants really should get some education instead of spewing ignorant rubbish on the internet..
Its funny how you guys are no longer shouting about the number of aircrafts in the Presidential Fleet. Has Buhari sold any of them yet? Nigeria is doomed!
