Remembering Bayo Adegboyega Aka Atayero! by spora1: 2:30pm On Apr 16, 2008
The death of renowned Gospel artiste, Evang. Bayo Adegboyega was received with shock. shocked  Adegboyega, aka Atayero died on Monday evening, 7th April, 2008 while observing his siesta after he returned from a trip to Ilorin.  cry cry

The Gospel minister, according to family sources, had a long battle with diabetes, which eventually led to the loss of his two eyes. He tried to raise funds for the eye surgery abroad in vain, he actually died in penury.  sad sad

I could remember watching his works while growing up in our b&w tv with clips of wars and SA's apartheid. I must confess that it was from his work I first heard of the name, Nelson Mandela. Some of his evergreen include Atayero wa taye se, Ilu le (koko o, Olorun wa so'lu dero o), Pataki l’obinrin, Itunu, Oko Nigeria (ma re loju agbami)  smiley and many others.

Adegboyega, aged 52 was an indigene of Ogun State.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

How sad! Every passing is a sad occasion; even sadder that he could not get the treatment he needed in Nigeria.

He was a fantastic preacher. I wonder why we could not raise funds for hi, Never heard he was down anyway. May His soul rest in peace. But I feel his death was avoidable.

Its really unfortunate. I grew up listening to his songs. They still ring a bell in my heart. I wish I was able to help him. He is a genius.

One of my favorite is Dear Mother, it made me love my mother even more.

It is good to see good testimonies about this legend. It gladdens my heart. Even though the story written here by OP is a little exaggerated, but yes he was diabetic and the complications led to his death. I travelled with him to Ilorin the day he died and was with him when he slumped, he was rushed to the hospital but was declared B.I.D. (So, he wasn't observing any siesta when he died). He had 16 albums to his name and was planning to release a 2-in-1 album (already recorded) before his death. All the master tapes still exists.

The family tried to push out some of his evergreen songs - Oro Aye nfe Adura (Atayero), Dear mother, Ilu le, Happy home, Special gift, Itunu, Fresh Anointing etc. but most promoters and marketers are only looking for who to rip off. We had some promoters shortly after his death but they were all just playing pranks. All of them still owes us a lot of money and it seems there is no way we can get it back.

Thank you anyways @Bigsteveg @spora1 @GreatManBee @BlackfireX @segello58 @thinksmartalway and others ... God bless.

There should be a way when there is a will.
I used to listen to his song as a little boy too...
Very raw and direct source of inspiration...
I tried to get Special Gift album but with no luck...
I was only lucky to get Dear Mother and one other one in Ibadan ...
Pls can you direct me on where I can get the Special Gift or if you can forward it to me...

Yesterday marked 12 years since the demise of Evangelist Bayo Adegboyega (Atayero bi agogo). Thank you all for the interest you have shown in his work. So far I've been able to get across to only 3 people here and met just one person one on one.

Concerning those who gave ideas about pushing some of his albums back to the market, the fact remains that there are no promoters willing to take up reproduction especially in the gospel industry. They make their money from sales and people hardly buy cds again unlike before.

Musicians nowadays hardly release albums because the profit is low while other make losses, even people who use online platforms like iTunes where people can actually pay, bloggers buy the songs, then put it on their site where people can download for free all to get traffic for their site at the detriment of the musicians. Hence, these musicians now release singles to stay relevant and hope to get shows and programs to perform and get paid.

Some already made suggestions about making the songs available online and we are trying to work on that. Some albums like special gift exist only in audio cassette for now but attempts are being made to convert to CDs.

Hello Chief, God bless your family. Baba Atayero was a legend. I grew up listening to his songs, my parent was a big fan.

Kindly create a YouTube channel for him and upload his songs digitally. Monetize his page.

Please and please, do this. Don't let Baba works go like that. Put them online especially YouTube so that next generation will get to know him.
