For some of u disputing the claims, U obviously have no idea what intelligence gathering means and entails. These are people who have not jus infiltrated the military but have also succeeded in mingling with the people wherever dey go without being found out. They now know d area well enof because they are familiar with the area, it's people and the terrains. So make una kip una sentiments aside and face the truth and reality. With d network dey have gathered overtime and even some BH sympathizers in the area, coupled with their sponsors and agents in both the govt and the army why exactly won't they be better at intelligence gathering... One thing you should remember in this war against terrorism is that one party is always on the run and always in hiding to launch surprise attack on defenseless citizens , and the other very much taking the war to the terrorist.

In as much as I believe that intelligence gathering and workings needs to be improved, I don't think the intelligence of the terrorists match that of Nigerian Army in anyway.

This man was in the military and he knew how things were been done there, the military blindly see it as a taboo for a Junior officer to be more smarter than a senior officer. Mostly, the standard of operation is more of "high-service"(trying to please Oga) instead of doing things by following standard procedure, i can tell you that the military is saturated with egotistical superiors claiming to know more and careless of what an intelligent junior officer/soldier has to offer. Order is order that's all they'll tell you, so they dont need your opinion. Dont you think that that kind of metality could make intelligence gathering more difficult? We need to embrace the fact that system of war changes.

@Xbee007 I think you are underestimating boko haram strategy. an internet search on guerrilla warfare or revolutionary warfare by Mao Zedong of China will tell u more about the advantage that that their strategy has over conventional fighters like Nigeria Army. Though the retired general may have exaggerated his point but i don't think that boko harm fighters are illiterate ragtags like u call them. they have proven by their activities to have mastery of unconventional warfare if u think it is easy to beat security checks around Abuja and successfully accomplish the objective of detonating bomb in the town then u have to think twice. One of the rules of wars like this is DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE YOUR ENEMY DONT OVERESTIMATE HIM EITHER. I think the Nigeria defence system underestimated them and that is why they have gained so much ground. As regards intelligence gathering I bet you Boko Haram are good at their work and if they have penetrated the Army as we can see is a greater prove of their sophistication. If u doubt my position here try to develop a source within an organization say a secondary school that will be giving u information on what is happening in that organization and see how tough it will be to convince somebody to do such a thing but this Boko haram have accomplished within the Army.
