FreeGlobe:My dear, there's need to encourage our local firms. That's the only way others will see what they've done and patronize them. I kpoo oba gi mkpokoro, agbatobi e were a kpoo ntu. If we must attract foreign investors, then we must patronize our indigenous investors first. Imagine the impression foreigners will have if Innoson manufactures his vehicles and no one in Nigeria is buying the vehicles. Let's not condemn them, if there is any area they need improvement, let's bring that to their notice. I believe they'll improve with time. |

The inspectors must be visiting every part of our cities to make sure that street sweepers and gardeners are on top of their task. I like the way they made it impossible for people to be pasting posters around the flyovers iron grills.

enochnochi:Maybe you don't understand why we are totally against IDC. They use to construct road like they are the only road contractors in the world, they are not the only local construction companies in nigeria. CCC and hammkopp are local contractors too but there is always a difference between their projects and IDC projects. Go to nnewi-utuh-osumenyi road and see how smartly hammkop built the road which is being threaten by erosion and even built erosion control drainage at the erosion side of the road to prevent havoc but IDC will build a road free from erosion and it will collapse within 6 months i am not lying, go and see the culvert/road that links bida with creek road, it collapsed withing 3months after construction. Obiano want to patch it but it collapsed beyond patching . I will give more examples of their flops if you're still interested in listening. |

enochnochi:Which Federal nonsense?...... The one that is still sleeping & blaming others while Nigeria is going down quickly!. This work is being done by Anambra State govt!. I am still at a lost why Anambra State govt allowed that erosion to reach to that level before acting!. The contractor that did that road did a very bad work there because they failed to channell the flood water from Nkpor junction & Nkpor markets like New spare parts properly there by endangering the lives & properties along that road!.

Rose Obi, the new pride of Anambra Posted By: CHIEDU UCHE OKOYE on: November 05, 2015 Anambra State teems with academic high-fliers, literary stars, business moguls, sports icons, musical superstars, political sages, and venerable men of the cloth. The late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, political titan and Pan-Africanist, hailed from Anambra State. Power Mike, a former world wrestling champion; Mary Onyali- Omagbemi, the former African sprints queen of the tracks; Chief Osita Osadebe, high-life music maestro; Chike Obi, a great mathematician; Chinua Achebe, the father of modern African literature; Chief Emeka Anyaoku, the former Common Wealth secretary general, etc, all hail from the state, whose slogan as well as motto is the ‘Light of the nation’. It is a fitting epithet that captures succinctly Anambra State’s essence. More so, Governor Willie Obiano is consolidating and improvin on the achievements recorded in the educational sector by the immediate past Mr. Peter Obi-led civilian administration. It was he who revamped schools in the state and articulated and executed practical educational polices, which have been yielding positive results for the state. Anambra State has emerged as the best performing state in such examinations as SSCE and NECO for three successive years. And Team Anambra won the national Inter Basic Debate Competition. The laudable and spectacular feat achieved by Team Anambra happened soon after Rose Nkem Obi won the 2015 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition organized by the Nigerian Breweries. By her uncommon accomplishment Rose Nkem Obi has entered the Pantheon hall of Anambra State great achievers. A native of Agulu, Anambra State, the lightskinned lady with infectious effervescence and deep scholarly bent was born in 1978. As a precocious and brilliant lass, Rose represented Anaocha LGA in a school competition held at Enugu while a pupil of Practising School, Agulu. And expectedly, she had a credit pass in the First School Leaving Certificate Examination in 1989. She outshone other pupils in that examination. After completing her primary education, Rose proceeded to Loretto Special Science School, Adazi Nnukwu , for her post-primary education. While a student in the school, Rose was molded by Mrs. Nwachukwu, her school principal; Mr. Chukwuezi, her mathematics teacher; and Mr. Nwajiobi, her Chemistry teacher. They imparted knowledge to her and inculcated the virtues of industry, punctuality, love of books, obedience, and humility into her. While her mathematics teacher would teach them some topics after school hours, her chemistry teacher simplified organic chemistry for them with his effective and unique methodology of teaching. She attended Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and earned a first degree in Pure and Industrial Chemistry in 2000. During her mandatory NYSC programme, she worked as a graduate assistant to Professor P.A.C Okoye. Mrs. Rose Nkem Obi, the erudite chemistry teacher at Federal Government Girls’ College, Onitsha, possesses post-graduate certificate in education and an MSc in Chemistry. It was in 2013 that she was fully absorbed as a senior education officer by the Federal Ministry of Education after her 10 year stint at Federal Government Girls’ College as a PTA teacher. Her teaching job at FGGC Onitsha and the tutelage she received at home and schools are the factors behind her emergence as the Maltina Teacher of the Year. At Federal Government Girls’ College, Onitsha, teachers are monitored and assessed periodically. And when the quality of a teacher’s teaching starts to dip, he/she would have to undergo tutelage. More so, being the daughter of a secondary school mathematics teacher, Mrs. Akpulu, she developed a great liking for Mathematics and the sciences. Mrs. Rose Nkem Obi, who has a good grasp of Chemistry, does her teaching job painstakingly and conscientiously. No wonder, her students do mill around her in the same way as bees are attracted to honey. Before emerging the overall winner, she had scaled the hurdle placed before her. She wrote a 150 word essay on her teaching philosophy; and a 750 word case study of her teaching strategy, practicality of the strategy and challenges. And not only was she assessed while teaching her students in a classroom by a panel set up by Nigerian Breweries Ltd, the panel of judges each interviewed her in Lagos. Outside academic activities, the wife of a lawyer and mother of a seven year old daughter is a keen fan of athletics, being a sprinter, who participated in 100m, 200m, and 4x100m races. She was the games prefect in her school in 1995. However, her mother discouraged her from seeking a career in athletics. For her efforts, Rose received N500, 000 and N1, 000, 000 respectively for being both state and national champions. And for five years, she will receive one million naira each year on world teachers’ day, which takes place on every October 5. Moreover, for being the national champion, she will undergo further professional training outside Nigeria. And Nigerian Breweries Plc, sponsor of the competition, will execute infrastructural project in her school that is worth N25 million. |

4 NOVEMBER 2015 Nigeria: Bishop Ikeakor Commissions Microfinance Bank in Amichi By Obialunamma Nwadiogbu Ekwulobia — The Anglican Diocese of Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, weekend, has commissioned its Sure Anchor Microfinance Bank Ltd, established by the diocese. Commissioning the project, the Bishop of Amichi, Rt. Rev. Ephraim Ikeakor said the church embarked on the banking project to encourage the culture of banking habit in the lives of the rural populace and discourage the attitude of living without saving for the rainy day. He also noted that the bank would encourage the rural dwellers, who were predominantly farmers by giving them "soft and micro credit loans for small and medium scale business enterprises with the hope of achieving economic boom in the area." While assuring them that ATM machines would be installed in no distant time on the bank premises, the prelate also asked them to open accounts with the bank, promising that it would not fold like other banks that collapsed in the community. "This bank is offering to provide savings and credit facilities and assist you to grow your businesses and improve your standard of living. So, this is not Anglican Church bank alone, but for everybody within and around Amichi. "I also want to let you know that you have nothing to fear about folding as we have experienced personalities as members of the Board of Directors and Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, will be monitoring our activities, having granted us the banking licence. In his remarks, the Chairman Board of Directors, Dr. Ugochukwu Nzewi , who was visibly elated for the landmark achievement, noted that the Sure Anchor Microfinance Bank would offer the following services: regular savings, daily contribution scheme, micro loans among other services. The Managing Director of the bank, Uchenna Udensi commended Bishop Ikeakor for his efforts in bringing development to the door steps of the people of Amichi, adding that the promoters of the bank were worried because the absence of banks in Amichi community exposes indigenes to the risks of carrying cash to neighbouring communities. "It also exposes them to the risks of keeping money at home, risks of financial planning difficulties in their various businesses and the hardship of travelling far before they receive money from people living outside Amichi," he said. |

FreeGlobe:Thanks for ur observations sis. Paul B...? This is laughable! Engaging Paul B in a project with such scope goes to show the level of mediocrity at play in the state, anyway we can only hope such won't repeat itself again. We need competent hands in the state’s ministry of works to work hand in hand with companies like IDC(if at all we engage them...), projects executed by these companies have to be closely monitored to ensure stringent adherence to standards and specifications. We(the state) can't invest billions of naira in capital projects intended to stand the test of time, only to come back few months later for repairs;it's not wise, not when the country's economy is suffering. 95% of our state roads are no match for State government constructed roads in most northern States with lesser IGR... So who is fooling who? Anambra and Anambrians deserve more. IDC(and other mushroom companies) better step up their game or get ditched, simple! |

tabletman1:But seriously, their(IDC) finishing is conspicuously poor, a good look at the storm drain along Juhel/Unizik Junction says it all, the drains didn't properly seal the pavement, and the runoff along that axis is kinda "turbulent" when it rains. If the road is not properly sealed, it's only a matter of time b4 water starts finding it's way into the embankment, thus, u don't need a seer to tell u that the failure of the road is in sight. Kudos to Ngige, really doff ma Hart for him for the quality of that Nkpor- Obosi road, heard it was constructed during his administration. |

enochnochi:ccc worked on onitsha end of the road. dats why they have office besides tansian university at oba junction the contract was initially given to ccc. Works Minister threatens to terminate N24.5bn Onitsha-Owerri road contract MINISTER of Works, Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe, has threatened to terminate the N24.5 billion contract for the dualisation of Onitsha-Owerri road in the South-East Zone following alleged abandon-ment of the project by the contractor, Consolidated Construction Company (CCC). The minister made the threat on Monday in Abuja at a press briefing after a closed-door meeting with CCC. Ogunlewe said he was shocked that the contractor was not on site when he paid an unscheduled visit to the South-East Zone last week, stressing that the inability of the contractor to attach seriousness to the project had resulted in chaotic traffic situation on the Onitsha-Owerri road. His words, “this project is very dear to this administration and the people of South-East alike Nigerians are looking at all of us and we can not afford to fail this time around. You must complete this contract or I will terminate it.” Ogunlewe, however, gave assurance to the contractor that the issue of funding would be taken care of by the ministry, asserting that he had already contacted the Accountant- General’s office to release the outstanding funds to complete the project. Responding the Technical Adviser to CCC, M. Fadaka attributed the delay in the completion of the 80km Onitsha- Owerri road to inadequate funding, assuring that the major part of the project would be completed by the end of 2004. He also decried government’s inability to pay the contractor all the 25 per cent mobilisation fee, stressing that with adequate funding, the whole project would be completed before the end of 2005. |
