because yorubas dont force or impose it culture on people...yoruba culture is unique, which is why it survived SLAVERY in north nd south america and became the dominant afro-culture outside africa... IGALAS,IGBIRA,ISTEKIRI,uhrobos,SOME IJAW CLANS have obvious yoruba influence but they are all UNIQUE CULTURES...yorubas see them as brothers(shared history) but not as yorubas

The Itsekiris language and culture has been influenced greatly by the language and culture of their neighbors like the Binis and Urhobos.
If you noticed, linguistically the itsekiri language is predominantly Yoruba, those Ondo and some Ijebu people understand like 80+ percent of what Itsekiris say without even stepping a foot into Delta state. They bear yoruba names like
Omawunmi
Eyimofe
Oritsefemi
Oritsejeafor
Abidemi
Wunmi
Yomi
Ogunbemi etc
Culturally they are more akin to the Binis as evident from their dressings etc.
Yorubas cannot jettison the Benin and Urhobo Influences on the Itsekiri culture and claim they are Yorubas.
The Itsekiri culture has evolved through a fussion of different cultures of their neighbors around them such that they have formed a Unique Identity on their own, heavily influenced but DISTINCT from the Yoruba, Bini or Urhobo cultures.
I believe same goes for Ikwere, Igbira, Ika, Anioma, Igbanke, Igalas etc.
None of the major ethnic groups can lay claim to these tribes as their culture has been heavily influenced by cultures of TWO or MORE other ethnic groups both Major or Minority that they have EVOLVED to form a DISTINCT IDENTITY which makes them UNIQUE.

No, I believe they are Ikwere and Anioma. Just as Itsekiris are Itsekiris. If you perused my earlier post very well, you will notice that I emphasised that They are DISTINCT.

We expect more of this gibberish as biafrans get close to freedom.

After pro biafran protests accross anioma and ikwerreland, those who take silly, idiotic and crassly uninformed opinions of people like the op that dominate nairaland serious, have learned that most analysis about igbo are mere stereotypes from yoloba which have no connection with reality.

Imagine after calling them 'delta Igbo' he still say we 'claim' them grin

how can one claim what is his grin ?

I dont claim ikwerre,God forbid!!
They are not igbo.
The reason why most igbo think they're igbo is because of the shared language and very similar culture.
Itshekiri has evolved as a tribe today because they have carved a distinct culture for themselves and are respected cos they acknowledge their yoruba/bini roots.
ikwerres or what ever they're called should create a very distinct culture of theirs,as different as possible from that of the igbos and should learn to have respect for their igbo roots like the itshekiris respect the yoruba.
Nobody takes a man that disrespects his father seriously.

This is a perfect example of a very ignorant and a tribalistic element....You lose your sense of reasoning as a normal human being and fill your soul with hate which clouds your sense of judgement.

its only some Igbos that are interested in rivers and delta state

some igbos see Ikwerres and delta igbo as the ''unserious bunch'' . .lazy people
they dont wanna associate with them

I have an igbo friend who lives in portharcourt but now schooling here
the way he talks abt rivers people, looks like he hates him not just ikwerre . .but both riverine and upland

having many ignorant and arrogant igbos like him makes rivers and delta igbo sometimes feel unwanted and feel like they aint igbo

Just because somebody from Imo said Anambrarians are from Igala isn't enough reason for me to denounce my heritage. I rather die than give up my Igbo identity. There is something fundamentally wrong with somebody who denies their identity....Something inferior exist in such person.

they havent.
Their language, traditional attires, names etc are still very much similar to the igbos unlike the case of itshekiris and yorubas.

but very true, culturally still very igbo

although There was a relationship between igbos and igalas, saying anambranians are igalas is very inaccurate.
Although there are some indigenous igalas from anambra,it is incorrect to say ALL anambranians are igalas.
Anambra is the settlement of your ancestor ERI and the original ancestral home of all igbos before some groups migrated and settled in other parts igboland.
i'm from abia state and i respect anambranians alot and hold them in high esteem,we are all family.

Their names are more similar to igbo than itshekiri names are to yoruba.
Most bear conc. igbo names eg chibuike amaechi while the rest modify their names to make it seem less igbo eg onyesom nwike=nyesom wike, nwanodo=wanodo, somto=tonto, nwaneri=waneri etc.
Your The men wear ijaw attires and promote the culture of others because they failed to carve a unique culture for themselves.if they had their own cultural attires and masquerades, they wouldnt need to copy that of the ijaws.
its very shameful.

First of all,There is nothing like "Delta igbos",igbo is igbo!fulanis can be found in most west african countries yet they all identify as fulani!,i wonder why there should be segregation between igbos in nigeria.we are all we got.
As for ikwerre(rivers igbo),they have denounced their igbo roots so i dont care about them.
"Delta igbos" on the other hand have never denied being igbo.
