Wait, let me get this straight... Dr. Opeyemi acknowledged the Clay Math Institute but the Institute has distanced association from his claim. Meanwhile BBC and other news media are carrying the news... Biko, which one is true? Shouldn't Clay Institute acknowledge this or rather, should the Dr. defend this? Also, who awarded him the $1million prize? |

yomexp:Nigerians and illiteracy of reading COMPREHENSION. BBB is not saying or confirming anything thing that he won it. Open the bbc link, they are saying it is not confirmed and that probably, other persons might have solved the question before now. They are more rhetoric and never said it was solved. LETS HOPE IS TRUE, HONESTLY FOR NOW NO SHOW SINCE PUNCH AND NTA ARE KEEPING MUTE. But it will a great thing for the northerners for their son to bring such an honour to the region. This will place the okun ethnic group in kogi state in a higher profile of achievement. Can any thing good esp in education come out of northern nigeria, yes. I concluded that this man is of okun ethnic, he may probably be igbirra man that somes bears sw first name or even oworo man around oworosoki are of dangote cement abajana. |

mainman7:I will only take you serious when WAEC, NECO and JAMB confirm this Yoruba intelligence. As far as the South Eastern states still top the charts in these 3 exams, including the Unity Schools entrance exams, then you are just ranting. Please remember that the first black VC in the first Nigerian University (University of Ibadan, in Yoruba land) was an Igbo man, Prof Kenneth Dike. The first black VC of UNILAG, Prof Eni Njoku was also an Igbo man. Let's not even go into the history of many firsts, including the first Professors of Mathematics, Medicine, Economics etc. My guy, just leave that your bragging. |

Anyone who attempts something like this usually gets my admiration. They do not have to win it or solve it. Ur already a genius in my opinion by merely taking a crack at it. I read a book recently about a Princeton prof who solved the last fermats theorem in the early 90s. Fermats last theorem states that there are no integer solutions for x^n + y^n = z^n (for n >2). This simple looking theorem had gone unsolved for about three centuries and puzzled a lot of mathematicians thru time. Whole new branches of math and sophisticated techniques had to be developed that enabled professor wiles and his contemporaries to come closer to a solution. But it was wiles who did it after dedicating most of his life and 7 concentrated years to the task. At any given time there are probably less than 100 ( a conservative no.) human beings walking the surface of earth who have the skills to even attempt a solution. So kudos to the Nigerian who is "doing" this. |

So, until this news got broken by BBC and CNN it shouldn't be taken serious that a Nigerian is capable on such feat?. I mean, are we saying white people are the custodians of knowledge?. Are we saying white people are knowledge base of what we should know and what we shouldn't know?. Africans are forever slaves to the west. Indeed, intellectual slavery is the worst legacy of colonialism. |

manny4life:The truth of the matter is that this guy has found a solution. Now, whether the solution is correct or not is the real question. I don't understand why people just like jumping to conclusions. If the Clay institution is even involved in this matter at all, I am sure they will need some time to verify and peer-review the guy's claims. Meanwhile, Nigerians have already started spending the one million dollars by mouth ![]() |

musicwriter:Nobody is saying the guy is not capable here but think about it: BBC has proven to be unreliable with news like this; the clay institution has said that there is still no solution and up until yesterday, only Nigerian sources were carrying this news. It all seems a little suspicious don't you think? I personally think the dude has a solution that hasn't been proven yet and he needs to stop tooting his horn prematurely. |

Quoting from the famed QUORA forum This fine piece of journalistic prowess could have been avoided had the BBC reporter bother to do any one of the following: Use Google to discover that the paper uploaded by Mr. Enoch carries someone else's name (Werner Raab), who actually published this non-proof on the web two years ago. Use Google to search for ecstatic roars of applause from mathematicians worldwide who attended a purported presentation of the proof at a conference in Vienna. There are none. Give a quick call to the math department at Cambridge, Oxford, Bristol, Glasgow, Nottingham or bloody Wollongong and ask if anyone has heard the dramatic news. He would have been politely told to search for other stories to report on, and not to worry about being scooped. The only story here is the pretty common failure of reporters to check their stories with anyone who knows anything about anything. Seriously, it's not that difficult to track down a mathematician in England. |

naptu2: Naomi Kraker, administrative manager in an email to The Herald said, “As a matter of policy, the Clay Mathematics Institute does not comment on solutions to the Millennium Problems. The current status of the problems and complete information about each, can be found at www.claymath.org; I’m afraid I can not add anything beyond what is available there.” I wonder how this translated to he did not solve it. The person just said, We do not comment about it. |

This man has enough talent to make an attempt and I admire that. We shld only wait to hear what Clay Math will finally decide before making a useless tribe contest out of this |
