Come on! Go to the school website and check for the requirements, or email the admissions coordinator or contact person to find out. Your question is very baffling. angry

Please House,.. I sent my SOP to the Professor that gave me a GO-AHEAD in applyiny to Brandon University for perusal. This is his reply in bolded.. Though, he promised me of funds if his 5-year research grant he applied for is granted, but I think he's saying a different story.. What should i do?.please.

Dear Jlakeside

I am well. I hope you are too. I was in Canada's capital city, Ottawa, last week at a workshop related to the Pliocene Arctic site project you expressed an interest in. I mentioned I may be recruiting a student from Nigeria with an interest in paleontology.

I think your Personal statement reads well.

If you can make the statement a little shorter by 100-200 words that would be ideal. I suggest not mentioning all of the undergraduate courses in your second paragraph; just refer to your transcript by saying 'I excelled in courses in environmental biology including geobioloy and paleontology (top 5%), as listed on my transcript', this will save words. You could also shorten the section about your job in the plant nursery by deleting the 2nd sentence ('Here, I was ...').

A small suggestion, but make the lines single spacing not double spacing.

I am happy to see a revised version, but would also see no problem with this version or a slightly edited version being submitted.

An important question for you. Do you have funds you could use to support yourself while at Brandon University?

That is, any personal money or funding from Nigeria (such as a scholarship or bursary) to pay rent and other living costs?

If you do, please mention this briefly in your Personal statement.

It is my hope that Brandon University through the Masters program will be able to offer support for your personal costs, but this can't be guaranteed. This would be in the form of a teaching fellowship ($6000 to teach a laboratory class) or a direct bursary between $6000 to $11,000 for one year, renewable once. I hope a decision is made soon, and hopefully before March. My research grant application, if successful, may also be able to support you by paying you a similar amount as a stipend, but again this is not guaranteed. I will hear about that grant application in April.

It may be difficult to get a visa if you don't have financial support in place.

Best wishes.

you cant study nursing directly in canada as an international student. Your best bet is to go for science course then cross over later. I.e BIOLOGY. Hope this helps. If u need more info let me know.

Wow, this professor is a very nice person. That he/she took the time to read your SOP and nicely offer suggestions on how to improve it is a sign that he/she would likely be a very patient and kind advisor to work with.

Also, based on my reading of the email, the professor is still interested in funding you but doesn't want to over-promise and under-deliver (this is very normal in North American culture). He/she wants you to understand that you need to have your own funds for living expenses so that you can get a visa. But if you read the email closely, the professor is implicitly saying he/she would do his/her best to pay you a stipend should his/her grant application be successful.

I would recommend you make the recommended changes to the SOP and apply sharp sharp. Also, do respond to the professor thanking him/her for the email, and reiterating your interest in working with him/her. Do tell him/her that you will be able to show proof of funds to the embassy but that obtaining funding from him/her (or the department) would go a long way in enabling you to attend and contribute maximally to their program. Gbam!

But also try to get funding from another school in case this one doesn't pan out. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

you need to have some documents to proof your home ties. for example, landed property documents of either you or you sponsor and if you are married, let your wife do affidavit of support and should state in it that she is aware of your visiting to Canada and that you are coming back to meet your family after the duration of your study.

Seconded!!! He should hold that Professor tight.. And do just what you have said here..Even with scholarship grant, it is imperative to show that you can support your self because at some stage in the program the grant might not be forth coming depending on situation unforseen. @JLakeside Pray for this Prof and dot miss this opportunity...

Seconded. @Jlakeside, The professor means well. Your major task I think will be to put up a formidable POF to the VO since the scholarship/assistantship are still in promissory stages. Best wishes!

Please house I have this pressing issue:
>> Ticket Price: please what is the average ticket price from Lagos to Windsor
>> The expiration date on my passport is 02-Feb-2017 and that is exactly the expiration date on the Visa issued. I thought they were meant to give me temporary resident visa (like 3-6 months) then at the point of entry I would be issued Student Visa…..but I was given (16 months )visa that will expiry the same day my passport expires….
>> Accommodation: I need advice on very cheap and conducive accommodation. I wouldn’t mind sharing room.
they don't issue visas beyond the validity of your passport. You're even lucky. My visa was issued until a month before my passport was to expire.

Sorry its nt for the application.I Have bn offer admission already wit an offer letter.i mean what transcript will be in compilation for Travelling visa processing. Does Trv office want someone to receive it by hand.
ganiyuadeoye:
I believe your SOR should be able to suffice for unofficial transcript so as for the propose school to offer you conditional admission which you can then send them your official transcript in other to send your admission letter.

best of Luck

How old are you? Do u have unexplained study gap? You need a strong sop to explain your long term goal in Nigeria after your program. Don't relent. Re fire. All will be fine

Do you have your student copy. Make a neat coloured copy and include it in your application. You don't need official transcript to apply for TRV. Cheers.
