I am surprised this is coming from you. You don't support OPC in its formative years.

I fully support the existence of OPC although I have lost faith in the leadership at the moment. Just I have lost faith in the political leadership in the SW.

If the SW military wing and Political class could align, the demand for regional integration would be greater and there would be progress. Similar to how Sein Fein and the IRA worked together to get the demands of Northern Irish Catholics met.

Katz/Iyalode, I don't know if you are aware of this development.
Worth tracking in my view.

Adesope Emerges As New OPC 'Reformed' President

The crisis within the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has continued to escalate as the new faction of the group had their Ojo local government meeting in Lagos yesterday October 13, 2015.

The occasion which was the aftermath of the trip by perennial national coordinator, Otunba Gani Adams, who recently inaugurated the Oodua Peoples Union (OPU) in Ghana, Togo and Ivory Coast.

Comrade Dare Adesope who is the president of the Oodua People’s Congress Reformed (OPCR) was present at the occasion, including Alhaji Afis Olubisi who is the governor of the Yoruba interest group

The event which was held at the open-field of the Federal Government College, Ijanikin was well attended by members of the group.

In his welcome speech, Adesope who is a native of Oyo state, revealed that the groups’ mission is to ensure peace as well as protect of the Yoruba race.

He said: “Our primary aim is to ensure peace and security within our jurisdiction. We were formerly with Dr Frederick Faseun, but due to several reasons. He promised that by the time the group clocks 20years, he was going to relinquish power to me.”

“Come that day, August 29, 2014 he didn’t. During the election, the OPC was the major group clamouring and agitating we were the one shouting, agitating about the marginalisation of the Yoruba race, that Goodluck Jonathan’s government was marginalising us, all of a sudden, it changed again that we have to work for Jonathan, and this is because he has promised them something.”

The Higher National Diploma (HND) holder and former general secretary to Faseun lamented that his group had to break-away because it dawned on them that the crisis may never be resolved.

“When you are talking about organization, it’s not about self, it is about membership and we felt we cannot continue with him. So many elders tried to resolve this issue, but he was adamant and we don’t want to rubbish along with him, and we decided to pull-out.

“Our name is now Oodua Peoples Congress Reformed (OPCR). Our logo and mission statement is different from theirs. Faseun founded OPC, but the way he is running the organization, we do not accept it,” he lamented.

On his path, the governor of the OPCR, Afis Olabisi revealed that touts and criminals made up members of the OPC. According to him, touts and miscreants have infested the Faseun led group.

“We had to leave OPC because touts and criminals have mixed with us. If we are going out, our men will be shooting sporadically and doing all sorts of ills within the society. During election, they took us out on political party rallies and this group was never founded on that.”

“We complained to Faseun, but he refused to hear. It then dawned on us that we need someone else to lead us. Faseun is now 80 years and he is not fit for such a tasking position and we trust Adesope.”

Meanwhile, the national coordinator of the OPC, Alhaji Gani Adams has formally inaugurated the Oodua Progressive

Yeah worth tracking; I wasn't aware of this but all this splintering will weaken OPC. So now there are 3 different groups who will no doubt not coordinate with each other if the needs arises.

I was one of ogbeni Aregbe's greatest supporters, to begin with.
But if you ask me for an appraisal of his efforts in the area of public administration, today, it is without equivocation that I would locate him as one of the least effectual leaders in the South West. While I can cite numerous examples of what informs my current view, let me draw on two that do not focus unduly on the state's current financial crises.

(1) Osun state has made the least effort to enshrine a framework of e-government.
- Budgets are hardly ever made public.
- Policy documents are scant
In sum, fiscal transparency is none existent

(2) The implementation of Opon Imo, an initiative which has proved to be both unsustainable and unfit for purpose, was a total sham.
- While we heralded this feat with great aplomb at the time, the truth is; no comphenesive trial was ever carried out.
- Difficult questions which might have helped to address stakeholder concern were fobbed off, in search of "a first" for Osun.
- When the state's chapter of the opposition party (PDP) questioned the involvement of Kabiru Aregbesola in this scheme, a telling response (copied in below was provided by the governor)

Source: http://www.osundefender.org/?p=113070
Note: Please pay close attention to the statement I highlighted and tell me your sensibilities aren't offended by the lame attempt to rationalise nepotism.

P.S - I have deliberately limited my criticism to these two examples because I think Ogbeni is beleaguered enough as it is, at the moment.

Aregbesola's son is the only messiah who can save a project

This is why I stated nepotism and corruption will always ensure that budgets aren't sufficient to complete projects.

@bolded

First of, you asked what sports is to Yorubaman and I will simply say sports means a lot to these present generation than the past generations, then Yorubas priorities education than others(military, police, sports etcetera). Although, many Yoruba parents still holds tightly unto that archaic philosophy or traditions(this one self just started 200 years ago) of 'you must go to school' but boy Don sabi say no be only book fit bring ruch or pepe come. Or do you think Yorubas don't see Obafemi, Mikel, Adebayor and Co, we no go school but dey live large? grin

Bros, Your second question is strange to me and to those who are aware of Yoruba's exploits both in cerebral energy and physical energy sports. How soon have you forgotten that the likes of Kareem Abdul Jabber and Hakeem Olajuwon had once dominated the world in basketball, that the likes of Rasheed Yekini, Emmanuel Adebayor, Segun Odegbami, Yakubu Aiyegbeni had once dominated Africa and European football and even David Alaba is currently dominating all Africans put together in the European leagues, he was selected twice for UEFA first eleven(the regetted stone becoming the corner stone). have you forgotten so soon that Deji Ali, Deley Thompson(top 3 greatest decathlethes ever), Olusola Fasuba( the ninth fastest 100m ever), Femi Ogunode(fastest Asian 100m ever) once dominated Africa, Asia, Europe and the world at large. Time will not permit me to mention Yoruba's dominance in boxing(Areaonakakanfo and Sir Shymm3x na oga for this one) , hockey, American football, etcetera.

Are all these sports not part of physical energy sports?

Sir, permit me to humbly say that your submissions are not cogent enough to dismiss the facts on ground. I rest my case. Shalom
Bros firstly Yakubu Aiyegbeni is from Edo state...but let me quickly correct one anomaly in your post(I think this is for Major of Lagos) who ignorantly mentioned that Igbos are built for sports that require more brawn than brains..that in itself is the dumbest thing I have read all day..first of all sports require a degree of technique or skillset...and for one thing we all know Igbos dominate sports especially in soccer(football if you may)..football itself as a sport has its grey matter of technicalities, and its no surprise Igbos seems to churn out the most technically gifted players in that department(Okocha, Kanu, Mikel, Henry Nwosu, Mikel Obi, Nacho, most recently Chidiebere Nwakali of the U17 winning team etc) even in the so called boxing you hype yorubas for, not one of them comes close to Ike Ibeabuchi...a bull of a boxer who was tipped to be the greatest of all time had drugs and frivolous lifestyle not ruined a promising career, the reasons for this preponderance of Igbos in this area of sports isn't far-fetched...we are the creative engine... statistically right now all the major sports in the USA and most parts of Europe from high school to college level are dominated by Igbos(mostly second and third generations born abroad)...we do have some outstanding yoruba athletes like you mentioned, but if we are to draw a database of numbers...Igbos will sweep the laurel both in Nigreria and abroad, and this includes education as well.

Oke Ado Mountain- A Photographer’s Delight

Ado Awaye, a quaint little town in Oyo State is a throwback to the earlier times of Nigeria. Looking at some places around town, you may think you have arrived at a Nollywood set which is characteristic of many villages in Nigeria. You see goats sauntering lazily around, displaying their sure-footed nature as they climb and skip on piles of chopped firewood, boulders and rocky outcrops, while half-naked children play with sand in front of their houses and women in wrappers cook over firewood set with three stones. A very conspicuous sight in Ado Awaye is the Oke-Ado Mountain which magnificently acts as a backdrop for the village.

From its foothills, Oke-Ado Mountain is a spectacle to behold. Rocks and lush vegetation can be seen everywhere and a sudden calmness felt. Mosses (Bryophtes) can be seen covering the rocks and some of the broken stairs. Every step taken that wound round the side of the hill offered a view like no other. Our walking sticks came in very handy, acting as leverages and strong supports as we ascended the steep mountain slope.

At our first stop, we are greeted by a huge Ishage rock boulder standing like a sentry. One can’t but wonder how this rock simply stands alone, majestic and white-washed with the sun’s ray bathing it while the blue sky framed it. As one looks over the hill into the valley beneath, one’s breadth get’s hitched at the breath-taking view of endless lush land, verdant greenery and the roof tops of many houses in village hamlets. The view is so spectacular- a charming mosaic of villages, forests, mountains and soaring blue clouds. Each view of the valley presented beautiful green scenery interspersed with the copper hues of roof tops. No two views were the same. In the forests skirting the sleepy Ado-Awaye village beneath us, we could spot a low-lying rock which outcropped from the surrounding vegetation. It’s relatively flat top appeared alive with activities. Heaps of raw and peeled cassava tubers laid at one side while a set of open, water-filled structures occupied another part of the hill. The tour guides referred to them as “Iko” and described them as the place where yam powder is made before packaging in bags and transportation to the nearby markets.

The higher we climbed, the more spectacular the spread before us. At one edge of the mountain top, we could see Iseyin road, glistening in the mid-day sun as it bounces and leaps northwards into Ebedi Hills at the farthest skyline. We could also see Iseyin town (about 30minutes drive, north of Ado-Awaye town) sitting at a corner of the skyline with a part of the town tilting upwards at it leans on a hill side. At another part of the mountain top, using binoculars, we could see a small segment of the great Ibadan city at the farthest point where the earth and sky meet.

On the mountain itself, vegetation composed of short trees and shrubs gives canopy cover and shade in some areas while at other places, stark rock formations is all you will find. The variant vegetation type on the mountain adds character to the mountain. However, although plants grew in pockets at different parts the mountain top, we did not come across any man-made cultivated pocket of land. The beautiful Iyake suspended lake casts another inexplicable allure to the wonders of Oke-Ado. It is an irregular shaped lake reposed in solid rock, with tufts of grass growing inconsistently around its banks. One edge of the lake is set with short trees that cast shade for the lone traveler or hiker on the mountain. It doesn’t matter where the picture is taken from, the lake stands picturesque, with palpable tranquility. The grounds we walked on are also not left out. There were times we came across small round or oval holes/pockets of stagnant water. It is said that this holes where once used to pound yam and cook in ancient times when the people of Ado lived on the mountain. Shards of clay pots could also be seen in different parts.

Oke Ado Mountain, though challenging to climb, is increasingly rewarding with each step up its slopes. The panoramic views encircling the mountain are, simply put, priceless! It has all photography buffs clicking away at their cameras’ shutter button. Its charm is a reminder that the beauty of nature, untouched by the poisonous hands of man is indeed spectacular, healing and breath-taking.

- A peep at the village of Ado-Awaye from the mountain.

– Iseyin road, bouncing and leaping northwards as it winds into Ebedi Hills at the skyline.

Iseyin town (about 30minutes drive, north of Ado-Awaye town) sitting at a corner of the skyline with a part of the town tilting upwards at it leans on a hill side.

A small village nestled within the landscape.

During the17th century Dahomey war, the people of Ado fled to the top of the Oke-Ado Mountain for refuge. At the end of the war when they descended to settle at the mountain’s foothill, the nearby Awaye people decided to settle with them resulting in one town Ado-Awaye which means –“we settled and we are saved”.

The Ishage Rock, a freestanding giant boulder reputed to be an embodiment of one of the 16 gods on the Oke-Ado Mountain. The rock which has never fallen off the steep mountain is regarded as the most powerful god who grants the wishes of whoever prays at its foot.
