She lacks Senior management level experience in the public sector. However, her internal Auditing experience in the public sector should enable her to put some core control and checks systems in place which is obviously needed in Nigeria

The Economist or whatever they call themselves should be ashamed to label someone with this CV as unqualified for our Finance Minister.

Apart from the president who knows what he wants an FM to achieve for the nation, no other person is qualified to dictate who should be our Finance minister. Not USA, not World Bank, not IMF and surely not the yeye Economist.

With our madam Gele's over qualification on paper, was the economy not ruined under her coordination? It's obvious these Western countries don't wish us well.

porka:
They should have appointed her the minister of state instead. That one doesn't demand for too rigorous econometrics modeling, advanced knowledge of macro-economics and experience in financial engineering.

As a minister of state for finance, she would be in charge of FAAC and no one would beam any searchlight on her. Nenadi Usman first understudied Ngozi Okonji-Iweala before Obasanjo elevated her. She was able to garner enough boldness, but even at that, she basically focused on paying local contractors all through her tenure.

What The Economist said is not different from what a former VC of a southwest state university said on a national television not long ago.

By making her a substantive finance minister of Nigeria in 2015, Buhari is just setting the country up for serious economic disaster and international mockery. She just doesn't have the capacity to manage Nigeria's economy yet. It's like appointing an assistant lecturer as a vice chancellor of a university.

The professor said there would be a cabinet reshuffle soon. Let's hope they will remedy this serious anomaly.
I ask again, did NOI leave a robust economy despite unprecedented earnings?

Under her there was massive looting, indiscriminate waivers for luxury goods, failure to improve our savings, failure to diversify the economy, failure to boost earnings from other resources especially solid minerals, more debts to the nation, failure to be able to pay federal workers' salaries in March and April 2015, etc. I can go on and on. So forget her overhyped paper qualification. They may be good to get her a juicy job at the world bank but SHE FAILED with our economy.

Precisely what I said earlier. What constitutes "properly qualified" for them? I suppose, concerning African countries, one would be "properly qualified" according to the economists if you have worked for international organisations like the IMF or World bank. They are comfortable thinking that we are in the dark ages and that the likes of NOI have the appropriate" western 'orientation' and experience that would mean automatic success because they are 'westernised' and can think better than the "savages" they would be leading in Africa. "Teacher don't teach me nonsense" (Fela). We now know better in Nigeria. Local solutions for local problem abeg. Nothing wrong with Adeosun at all in my opinion.

It is no news that Bretton Woods institutions want to have a continued hold on the economic policy of emerging economies.

It is time Nigeria severs that link now and forever.

I don’t see why a home grown economist/finance expert cannot be at the helm of affairs.
Hear someone like Henry Boyo analyse financial issues, and you wonder if our past "world qualified" ministers had any intelligence upstairs.

But for her stint as commissioner for finance in Ogun State, I would have said even Kemi Adeosun is not Nigerian enough for such sensitive position.

The day we begin to appreciate the concept of economic security, we will put a curtain between our finances and these foreign establishments.

Same reason I do not rejoice over an ex Shell or ex Mobil staff having any influence over our national oil and gas agencies or ministry.

By default, such people do not have a nationalist/patriotic orientation, besides being too capitalist in their approach to solving issues.

Could you tell us, in specific term, what exactly makes unqualified or why she should have be made a minister for state?

you nailed it, my only issue with her is her foreign tinx which I pray she won't have the notion that what works there must work here.
Aside that, I prefer her to others that were speculated, because there won't be pressure to please anyone aside the nation and the president. No WB, IMF, EU, Godfathers , etc to control her.
Heard she was recommended by wale edun to amosun, from him to pmb through obj, so I don't really see her as a stooge to any individual.

How does her CV count in public service? If its this CV there are more than 100k Nigerians with thesame CV world wide.... In public service Intergrity is more than qualifications... A diploma holder with intergrity can perform more than her

Kemi is a small round peg in a big round hole, her qualifications and experience are mediocre when compared to the position,I can pull a thousand Linkedin profile of nigerians with equal or much better qualification and experience.I would have preferred Doyin Salami in that position but Buhari in his wisdom has appointed Kemi instead.

Its still early in the days and I think Nigerians should give her the benefit of doubt,I know she must have been following the conversations around her qualification for the job so its up to her prove her worth.
