I still don't agree that accounting is broader than economics. But you have made good points, and further proven beyond doubt that these professions are interlinked and they need to work together, just like the organs of a body for the economy to function.

P.S. Do you have an economics background?
Lol, I have a background in all of the above. What I am trying to point out is Kemi is more than adequate for her role. The economists should be in planning and budgeting ministry, financial analysts or investment bankers in investment and trade, while the accountant should be in the finance ministry. Because even within a company, when decisions are to be made about loans and financing, financial health of the company, it's the accountant that plays mostly the advisory role.

Okay. Like you have a degree in each of them? lol. Your opinion is respected tho. The Central bank governor should be an economist too Or what do you think?

An investment banker or economist is definitely supposed to be the CBN Governor. A financial lawyer would perform well too.

He's right. Financial Analysts and Economists are the most similar. One focuses on the micro the other on both macro and micro. But accountants do all including manage the cash. Accounting is more broad than finance and economics. This is not to say that Economics is also not important. Because the decision making and analysis has a country wide view or world view. I summarize the professions like this:
Economics: analyzing economic factors and providing possible solution within professional parameter.
Financial Analyst: analyzing how these economic parameters affect the numbers.
Accountant: Recording the analysis of both the economist and financial analyst and making decisions on how to apply this information based on very strict rules of the profession. Which in turn can have a big impact on the company or country.
[/s]
Economics is a much broader field than accounting.
Compared to accountants, economists are more focused on broader financial questions over longer periods of time.

Finance

Finance is the study of how to optimally allocate assets—how individuals and organizations should invest assets in order to get the highest possible return given changing conditions over time. Finance is fundamentally a forward looking field, concerned with what an asset will be worth in the future.

Economics

Economics is a social science that analyzes the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. It focuses on how economic agents (people, businesses, and government) interact and make decisions. Economics is fundamentally the study of cause and effect. It tries to figure out how one variable affects economic agents or the economy as a whole.

Accounting

Accounting focuses on communicating a businesses' financial information. Accounting is fundamentally a backward-looking field, concerned with what has already happened financially and what position that leaves the company in today.

Kemi Adeosun will outperform NOI in Buhari's regime.

NOI failed because GEJ was the weakest president in the history of Nigeria......... NOI excel during OBJ regime. Kemi Adeosun despite not possessing same qualification as NOI will have Buhari's total support and attention, and that is what will make her succeed.

She is not even alone , MoF has technocrats also CBN is there to provide Monetary policy support and area of fiscal policies, The Minister of trade is also a good analyst among many economists that can be consulted even Soludo is everly ready to help at least through criticism ....

what we need in Nigeria is not economists but Kemi Adeosun, we need somebody who has auditing and accounting experience to help boost our fallen revenue through diversification while also protecting our heritage from vampires though Audit.....

only we accountants are trained in revenue boost and safeguarding of money via Value for Money (VFM) ... we are also trained in implementing ZBB "zero based Budgeting which is a VFM tool.

it is not about the certificate alone, but the will and the support system.

Enough of all the bu.llsh.its from the economics profession, it is time for accountants to show economist their modelling and power points graph are all craps .... Economics only simulate world scenarios by manipulating macro and micro economic variables while hiding under ceteris paribus ..... Ceteris paribus is the highest fraud in economics profession because ceteris doesn't paribus in most occasion. These variables being held constant ain't constant in real world and in the longrun, they vary cuz they are stubborn.

Economics is only OK for academics not for professional world .... economics is only OK in classrooms and research institutions not strictly business corporations ....... No time to test run nonsense models.

There is no gamble in accounting, it is either you make profit or loss .... our valuations are real also our judgement.

ThanGod, we accountants are exploring econometrics now like never before, very soon we shall advance the course of knowledge and create our own simulating tools ..... Time for economics to be relegated in the sphere of knowledge and corporate world.

Even Jarus ran away from economics and parachute into accounting via ICAN, grin .... he doesn't want to become a lecturer. lol ahahaha grin

Kemi Adeosun all the way...... Greatest Accountants, let's show them......

!!!!

This poster wrote a lot of trash here, and Adeosun's epic failure will come back to haunt him.

Besides, economics is very broad and touches every aspect of human existence e.g. Health economics, Petroleum economics, energy economics, Labor economics, Development economics, Monetary economics, Public Finance, Econometrics etc.
It is very wide, and would forever be relevant in the world

economics is vast. even in our undergraduate days as student geologist we ve a course. economic geology

They should have appointed her the minister of state instead. That one doesn't demand for too rigorous econometrics modeling, advanced knowledge of macro-economics and experience in financial engineering.

As a minister of state for finance, she would be in charge of FAAC and no one would beam any searchlight on her. Nenadi Usman first understudied Ngozi Okonji-Iweala before Obasanjo elevated her. She was able to garner enough boldness, but even at that, she basically focused on paying local contractors all through her tenure.

What The Economist said is not different from what a former VC of a southwest state university said on a national television not long ago.

By making her a substantive finance minister of Nigeria in 2015, Buhari is just setting the country up for serious economic disaster and international mockery. She just doesn't have the capacity to manage Nigeria's economy yet. It's like appointing an assistant lecturer as a vice chancellor of a university.

The professor said there would be a cabinet reshuffle soon. Let's hope they will remedy this serious anomaly.
where in the world does an accountant manage economy
her job is to account for our monies
okonjo was just being hyped for nothing
she was just an admin staff in world bank and was hired because her father is obj friend
afer she was made coordinating minister what did she coordinate, failure that's what.

They made an accountant that doesn't understands Fiscal Policy a Finance Ministers.

All these Accountants running their mouth thinking that the Finance Ministry is all about paying salaries and financial recording. The Federal Ministry of Finance is in charge of Nigerian's Fiscal Policy and Macroeconomics, and an Accountant knows nothing about that.

Its only an idiot will believe that Accounting is broader than Economics.

When you remember it took PMP 6 months to appoint a model as our Finance minister...

The Economist or whatever they call themselves should be ashamed to label someone with this CV as unqualified for our Finance Minister.

Apart from the president who knows what he wants an FM to achieve for the nation, no other person is qualified to dictate who should be our Finance minister. Not USA, not World Bank, not IMF and surely not the yeye Economist.

With our madam Gele's over qualification on paper, was the economy not ruined under her coordination? It's obvious these Western countries don't wish us well.

I ask again, did NOI leave a robust economy despite unprecedented earnings?

Under her there was massive looting, indiscriminate waivers for luxury goods, failure to improve our savings, failure to diversify the economy, failure to boost earnings from other resources especially solid minerals, more debts to the nation, failure to be able to pay federal workers' salaries in March and April 2015, etc. I can go on and on. So forget her overhyped paper qualification. They may be good to get her a juicy job at the world bank but SHE FAILED with our economy.
Yes, despite all the negative things you said NOI. Her time was not like this. I think we should stop blaming other people for this administration's inefficiency and ineffectiveness
