Over 400,000 Jobs Created In 3rd Quarter - NBS by PassingShot(op): 12:32pm On Nov 23, 2015

Latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) show that a total of 475,180 new jobs were created in the third quarter of 2015.

In its third quarter survey, the NBS explained that this represents an increase of 236.1 per cent, compared with the previous quarter, and 36 per cent compared to the third quarter of 2014.

According to the Bureau, the increase in the number of jobs was driven mainly by informal sector jobs, which accounted for 90.2 per cent.

The labour force population increased to 75.9 million from 74 million in the second quater, representing an increase in the labour force by 2.60 per cent.

It was followed by formal sector jobs, which accounted for 8.8 per cent, while the public sector generated 4,818 jobs, representing 1.01 per cent of jobs in the period under review.

The informal sector accounted for over 90 per cent of total jobs in the third quater, and were predominantly in rural agricultural activities.

I remember how I had to lecture some people here that 2nd quarter represents April, May and June; that we cannot attribute the economic performance of that quarter to a presidency which was in charge of only one month (June) out of three. The new regime is thus fully responsible for the economic performance from the 3rd quarter onwards till May 2019.

Just last week we read how the economy is rallying despite a drop in crude earnings! And I am sure that PMB and his team will shame the doubters and put Nigeria back on the right path.

Lalasticlala, Seun, Obinoscopy, this should not be delayed to make fp please.

Going by the manner these folks rode to power, one would expect not to look too far before seeing astounding achievements and policies.

I dislike paper economics. NBS may be right as they use proper statistics but on personal experience there is still very high level of unemployment and poverty. Nothing has changed since May in Rivers State where I am writing from.
