Please how reliable and truthful is the travelbeta people, I made a reservation using there platform but I'm scared to pay. Cuz I used wakanow and it was expensive so as the individual airline website. .. abeg b4 I enter 1 chance
Lol. Never heard of them though. Why not use momondo.com or TripAdvisor to check average prices for a particular date, then go on wakanow.com to check for that date. From experience, flights for Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays are mostly cheaper. You can also try wakanow.com at night, between 12am and 5am, prices fall at midnight too.

Naira value has been fluctuating in the last few months. Just close eyes and pay the money.....but I think Diamond's charges is kinda friendly. Budget 180naira to a dollar, it of course can't be up to that anyway.
the rate has been giving me concern, and i need to pay 466CAD before i can register for courses now. I am contemplating on whether to pay the money here or wait till i arrive over there. Which one do you think is better?

Hello kriss, I understand the zeal to help others as this thread was very helpful to me as well...kudos to you
The last part about food ...please dont take that hook line and sinker because if you're caught with the any edibles and didn't declare you will be in much more trouble
I am not big on travelling with foods cos I feel no matter how much it will still finish
But if you're someone that will stock enough pls its better to declare ...I know friends that declare whenever they come in and they were not delayed or scrutinized
At most they will be confiscated but not declaring is more risky especially if you have in large amounts

Kris99:
Travel Tip #1:
Do not put important documents, money and laptop in your main luggage. our might not be guaranteed that it will not be stolen from the airport in Nigeria after you have checked-in. Keep relevant documents such as passport, offer letter, proof of payment receipt or scholarship documents in your hand luggage. These documents will come handy when you touch down and head to join the immigration queue to obtain your study and work permit. There are instances where students kept valuables in main luggage and had them missing. 40-60min as you approach your destination( say the Pearson Airport in Toronto or Montreal) you will be asked by the air hostess to fill a declaration form. On this form you must provide the following information: Biodata, address you lived in in Nigeria, Contact number of someone home, address you will be staying in Canada, whether you have funds on you to declare or not, whether you are carrying any food item in your main luggage or not. For some of us, the smartest answer to give them is that you carry no funds on you( cos the moment you declare you do carry you must disclose the amount and go througha long process of clearance) . Same with food items. you will be asked to disclose..even if u carried stork fish or indomie i beg make unna no disclose am. It complicates things.

I was about saying that. It is risky to lie about what you're carrying. It is not wrong to travel with food items, of course u r a student and u need food. Please it is okay to declare, worse case scenario is to confiscate anything they consider as threat (buh no carry hard drug o, na jail be dat o lol). You may have issues with drugs (as in medicine) too, as some may ask you for doctor's prescription, but what me did the last time I traveled with antimalaria and antibiotics, I hid the small bag carrying the drugs inside my suit....lol. And as regards money, it's not wrong to declare too, but try not to have up to 10k dollars in cash (not sure u need to declare any cash less than 10k). And if you do, it is still not a crime, u are a student and u have bills to pay, so please don't panic. I heard of a guy that was sent back from POE to naija because of false declaration. And lastly, I love the part that u should make important docs handy, it is really important and try to be as organized and composed as possible.

How do you intend to get the money you'll pay when u get to Canada? Because I think the easiest way is to change to usd in Naija and then change to cad in Canada, and I think that's even more expensive. If we say naira will appreciate, but falls the more nko? And unfortunately banks have stopped or suspended BTA and PTA because of the fluctuations in Naira, so the surest bet is buying from black market, which is not friendly at all. So I think it's best u pay with ur card, at least it's more friendly than black market rates.

I agree with kris99's post below EXCEPT the bolded.

Folks, do not lie at the port of entry. Don't start your voyage into Canada by disobeying its laws! Declare whatever needs to be declared, and check the Canadian Border Services Agency website to determine what you can or cannot carry with you. It is very straightforward.

@fatanu, the email from your department is indirectly telling you that you should find a professor who would like to take you on as a student.
Start contacting professors in that department now and use this as a guide: https://www.nairaland.com/2367106/travelling-canada-part-8/28#34729512

Hi people of God
Please can anyone advise on the gcms file.
Wth respect to my previous quote, I was delayed based on length of stay and purpose of visit.
My length of stay was meant to be 8 months nd it's PGD
I want to reapply and I think I shld not fly blindly.
Even at that does it means I stand a better chance if I got to know the VO's real comment.
Bearing in mind that I am only reading comment and not the vo's mind .
And am sure I will have a new vi responding to my request and I hardly see people requesting for the gcms stuff.
Please I need an advise on the price, Turn around time to get the gcms file upon my request.
God Bless you.

Am so happy that My frnd just got PPT request tho he used an agent but I promised my self dat I will do it my self with help of God and my good NL people
Anticipating ur response please

Says who?

Its a random call, but Its rare to get a call 2 weeks after your application. No saying its not possible, cause I know of some1 that did his on Oct 5th, and got medical call 2 weeks after, but on the average note, say 4 to 5 weeks. Even more, So, keep your mind at ease. All the best. Keep the faith alive. Its well dude!!!
