shiinihost: Wake up..they are not the same. The minister is the all in all chief executive of the ministries and all agencies under him. The senator is only a discussant in the senate. 1 Like 1 Share |

You can make assumptions about senators writing letters of referrals to ministers hoping for recognition and contracts, BUT you have no proof of that! CACAWA: 1 Like |

CACAWA: You can't take away the senator from the senate. The senator wields his power in the 'senate'. Without the senate, the senator is just like every other Nigerian. The teacher wields her power in the 'school' just like lalasticala wield his power on nairaland. The individuals make up the institutions and are inseparable. |

CACAWA: a discussant that could make laws do scape the same ministry the minister is supervising? |
Re: Who Is More Powerful...a Minister And A Senator??? by CACAWA(m): 2:53pm On Nov 28, 2015 |
TeeOw:no you don't. You are still talking about the senate as a body. We are talking about a single senator. For example, the senators from rivers state alone have no power over Amaechi today. They couldn't even stop his nomination and they also can never remove him. Even the senate you are talking about...for example, the senate has power to confirm an INEC chairman, they have no powers to remove him. Same rule applies to ministers...but in this case, only the president can fire a minister. Ask yourself...what did the senate do about for aviation minister...stella odua? They advised the president to fire her. He didn't. That's all the senate can do...talkies of one single senator that no can't get majority of his colleagues. Lol |

It depends ,a senator can be recalled by his/her constituency,a minister can be sacked..... If you are A or B and people aren't feeling the impact of your position, you as good as dead.........in Tubaba voice ........power is nothing if it's only to your advantage, people wallowing in abject poverty and fear .. To me the most powerful men are those that touches lives and changes destinies for good and posterity always speak good of them |
Re: Who Is More Powerful...a Minister And A Senator??? by CACAWA(m): 2:54pm On Nov 28, 2015 |
shiinihost:not even the entire senate can scrap a ministry. Only the president can create or scrap ministry. A ministry is only a department in the executive..it has nothing to do with the senate..talkless of one senator |
Re: Who Is More Powerful...a Minister And A Senator??? by PassingShot(m): 2:56pm On Nov 28, 2015 |

Re: Who Is More Powerful...a Minister And A Senator??? by shiinihost: 2:58pm On Nov 28, 2015 |
PassingShot: a minister is powerless without her ministry just as a senator is powerless without the senate. The question was wrong in the first place. |

This question is f**king immature. Who compares an elected government official with an appointed one that can sacked any day? U can as well ask if a minister is more powerful than an Executive Governor!! |

REDUNDANT QUESTION. NIGERIANS SHOULD BE MORE INTERESTED IN HOW BENEFICIAL THESE PUBLIC FIGURES ARE TO THE COUNTRY'S DEVELOPMENT. |

Now, quote the exact section in the constitution where it says that senators have no powers to remove a minister?... it does not exist! Just like the senate can kick out a president (who appoints a minister), the same power from the senate can kick out and incompetent or erring minister. You cannot talk of a broomstick without mentioning the broom... so you just cannot talk of senator without mentioning the senate. A senator is a broomstick... The senate is the broom and a minister is a chewing stick. CACAWA: 1 Like |
Re: Who Is More Powerful...a Minister And A Senator??? by Nobody: 3:03pm On Nov 28, 2015 |
It depends. A senator is only more powerful where the power intended to be exercised is collective. The Senate (as a body/group) is more powerful than the Executive. Thus, the President is more powerful than the Senate President and a Minister is more powerful than a Senator. 1 Like |

TeeOw:we are talking power u are saying something else the senators can summon because they are constitutionally backed, but the minister decides where projects are cited also when both of them attends a public function, the ministers name gets mentioned before the senator, except the senator is the SP or DSP 1 Like |

TeeOw: The question was about the individualistic powers each possesses, and not a collective power... In the Senate, no matter how excellent your motion is, the gavel will still have the final say.. |

TeeOw: Did you actually notice how concerned we were when PMB was yet to begin the ministerial appointment exercise? The country was seriously grounded. All we were acting on was Buhari's body language. I reiterate, the question was individualistic. |

Individually a wolf's bite force is just a little bit higher than that of a rottweiler dog BUT a wolf is usually a member of pack... this is just like a senator and the senate.... individually a senator is not so powerful, but when he gets the backing of the senate, a minister is in deep sh.it. miqos02: |

shiinihost:You go sabi dodge bullet well well. We know a senate exists and accepts a ministry already exists. The question is, is a senator more powerful or influential than the minister? The answer is a resounding NO. Just take a moment and consider the sphere of influence of a minister and a senator. |
