so he spent 5yrs in sec school??

Private secondary schools give double promotion to some brilliant students as some can jump from js1 to js3 so this could be a reason and I remember in the universities a decade ago, a boy of 16 came for clearance and be admitted into the school, the clearing officer asked him how old is he, he said 16 and the officer told him that he was too young. Things have really changed

I know someone who became a Medical Doctor at age 18.
Also as at 2008 I saw a girl who was 11 years old in SS1 as at 2008 oo, so am looking forward to seeing 15years children that are graduates already.

13 years old in 100l is not possible. when did he finish secondary school? 12? That means he entered secondary school at the age of 6 At what age did he start nursery school then.
I have a 14year old boy in 100level in the department of maths/computer in my university. And to think that he is the best on a grade of 4.86 is amazing.

Suffer later? Well, it depends on the child. I got into high school aged 8, graduated high school aged 14, went to Uni at 15 cos I had to wait to write JAMB, and also got my masters as well. I didn't suffer.

The only side effect was that a lot of my mates in secondary schools who knew my age bullied me as in Junior Secondary. But I got wiser and it stopped in Senior Secondary. So it all depends on the child. Some can handle it, so cannot.

I don't really support it though, cos not all kids can handle it like I do. I won't allow any of my kids to skip grades crazily, like I did.

like you said.. not all kids can handle it.. Parents put a lot of pressure on kids when it comes to education and the stakes are high.. school fees are astronomical and they typically want them in a university as early as possible. all these go into pushing the kid beyond his natural abilities.. the brain is young and sharp, it will adapt, but the mind won't it is still a kid

. Who told you the result isn't usable that same year. After I got my result in ss2 @13,I still had to complete my second school nd I was still d youngest graduant in my set. Even though I had to take a break after then and later balanced with the normal entry age,my sister didn't and she would be graduated from the university at 18,and now she's doing very fine. .now tell me what you mean by suffering, except if you think age is a function of general intelligence.

What he means is the kid would pay the price of being brilliant. There is a reason why life is in stages and skipping some stages can be harmful though in most cases not disastrous. More often than not, they become socially awkward and their interpersonal skills are stunted. It doesn't matter nowadays because the geeks are the rock stars of today. Everything is measured by dollar signs. But, that being said, it would be very difficult to measure genius in a country like Nigeria where the educational system is disastrous to say the least. People go to college, but the college never passes through them. Look at the topic for instance. The OP sees it as ok to use "alright" in place of "right". As if they have the same meaning.

so he left primary school @8yrs
entered sec school and wrote WAEC at age 13 in sec school(coz if it were to be external exams, the result won't be usable that same year)
...and got admission that same year of 13

he will suffer later....coz he's bypassing a crucial phase of life....

Some kids develop psychologically faster than others. Nevertheless, they're below the acceptably recognised age of entry into jss particularly the smaller one.

A boy won a game at a birthday party I attended with my kids yesterday and was asked his name, age and class.

He said he is 9yrs old and in JSS 2. We were surprised. In the course of trying to get him to answer some questions relating to his school his brother came out. Guesd what? He is 10 years and in JSS 3.

They both have the same trend. How did they get there? Wait ooh, they will complete their secondary education by 13 years. What of the minimum entry age into university of 16yrs? What of psychological developments?

What is your take on this? Before now I thought that my 12yrs old child in SS1 is too fast and my husband thought of steeping her down last two years until I met those kids.

if you notice they are kind of sharp and intelligent so that could warrant the big push by their parent seeing they are the smartest in their class in primary school. presently I know a girl that was taken from pri 4 to JS 1, and she is just 10 years old. Guess that's the new trend, naija our country

@OP, please tell me why not? Must you waste the best years of their life? The school curriculum is designed so that those at the lowest end of the learning curve can get into university by sixteen. Many of them still don't and not because of the curriculum but due to individual failings. Some actually want to play as much as those in the top ten percent! So keeping the child to their pace is actually a bad idea because the brilliant ones will have a lot of time to play with and they might end up becoming what no sane parent wants - nuisance and maybe even criminal. If you allow a faster pace, supervise the child and make sure they get adequate play time for their age.

Whatever you do, remember that your kids will be competing in an even more globalized marketplace than you are. In many countries, children are becoming professors and doctors under 21 years!

Good luck!

Minimum age to finish sec school should be 16 no matter how brilliant you are.
If the kids ever goes into federal Universities, they will have psychological issues when mixing with older, bolder, more intimidating peer group.

Best for these set is to push them into the private University where they will still be in controlled territory and focus on their academics though these set can never compete in the real world with the ones who have passed through the necessary levels of human physiological development
Gbam except for the few who can handle it

In this days where companies want 21year old graduate with 5years experience. Its not too early.

Gone were the days of minimum age. As long as the parents are up and doing in their tasks as parents. It will take a lot of monitoring and guidance from the parent of the child.

If they are able to enter University(especially a private) they get to have a second degree or early masters.

Is possible in Nigeria, not possible in USA. In USA the school system is different and is based on age
The junior school in USA is like the JSS in Nigeria. You cannot start 6th grade ( JSS1 in Nigeria) until you turn 11, also a kid cannot start 9th grade until 14 years of age in USA. USA senior high school is 4 yrs I.e 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade.

This at some point in their life will affect them...going to school does not only mean reading tons of books and passing.
how do you expect someone dat small to cope with his large counterparts. In my opinion, it's not adviceable.
I was brilliant but my mother refuse me skipping classes because she knew wht was in it. #respect a mother's intuition.
