Nice information. But if you are wondering what toothpaste is best for for, my recommendation is one called Tom's. Its all natural and i swear you will not use another after trying this product. They also have the mouthwash. You can get this from CVS, Wholefood and i think Giant carries it now as well. For those in the states.

Origins:   This item about markings on toothpaste tubes is yet another Internet-circulated consumer tip that supposedly provides useful information about a common class of product by revealing data that is available only to those "in the know" who are cognizant of where to look for hidden

indicators and how to interpret them. And as is typical of such tips, the claim about what these indicators supposedly reveal is completely wrong.

According to this bit of online lore, the colored squares or rectangular bars found on the crimp at the closed end of toothpaste tubes signify the composition of the product contained therein: whether its ingredients are "natural" or "chemical," and whether the toothpaste includes "medicine." (These terms are really too vague to be useful, as even "natural" products are made up of "chemicals," and "medicine" is too non-specific a term to be informative.)

However, those colored squares on the crimps of those tubes have nothing to do with the formulation of the toothpaste inside. They're an artifact of the manufacturing process known as "eye marks" or "color marks," printed marks that can be read by light beam sensors and typically identify where product packaging is to be cut or folded as connected units stream through machinery at high speed:
Eye mark: A printed rectangular mark most often found along the edge of webstock that can be identified by an electric eye. The mark identifies a point on the web where an individual package is to be cut.

I think it should be given some serious consideration by whatever organisation is responsible for these checks.
Imagine, I have a close up herbal toothpaste with pictures of aloe vera, eucalyptus, sage and even thyme but the stripe is black and ingredients reads chemicals. SMH.

So many of industries has a way of embedding information of the original content of their products, which many of us did not know.
like the toothpaste we use nowadays, not many of us pay attention of the
toothpaste bottom color we buy.

After reading this, I bet you will consider the
details which are telling a lot about your
toothpaste.
What you need to do is have a look at the
bottom of the tube, where you will find a
colored stripe.
Toothpastes have different colors of stripes,
depending on their composition. You need to
be able to recognize them.

In that purpose, in continuation we are giving
you information about the different stripes:

Green – All Natural
Blue – Natural + Medicines
Red – Natural + Chemicals
Black – All Chemicals

On the other hand, even though this
information is available to customers, there
are opposed claims that they have nothing to
do with the ingredients of the product.
Accordingly, you can find all this information
on the list of ingredients.
The decision is yours. If interested, you
should do a further research on the topic and
find out which is the right way to select the
perfect toothpaste for you.
Good Luck !

My close up is black are sure it's not way to bring some products down because close up it's still the most popular toothpaste in the market.
Re: The Secret Behind The Toothpaste Bottom Colour by Sormeh: 7:46am On Dec 06, 2015
I don't think the op is right. those colours hv nothing to do with the ingredients used at all. I'm sure you guys hv seen similar colours on other packaged products like biscuits, detergents, nylon packed margarines, etc. Those colour stripes are there to let the automated sealing machine recognize the place to seal and cut. Manufacturers can use any colour they wish for the bottom stripe (depending on the colours present on their packaging design) to program their sealing machine. It has nothing to do with the ingredients.

According to Snopes.com (a very reliable hoax-slayer website), this is false.
