Hi Abuja NIV,
I got admission to study MSC in US. I've been issued an I-20 and my spouse(dependent) was issued same. Pls how do I go about applying for both visas. Note that I'm actually been sponsored(Complete sponsorship for both) by Nigerian Government. Need tips especially as regards my dependent spouse whom I intend travelling with.
Thanks
Hello amunkita03,

You just go to http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ and set up an appointment. I'm not sure what your question is precisely. You'll need to pay a SEVIS fee as well.

Thanks for the explanation.
Please what type of non-immigrant visa can I apply for that can allow me to stay in US for two years?
Hello tolam08,

If your goal is to work in the United States, I would suggest you look at immigrant visas. The only non-immigrant visas that allow such durations for work are H1Bs and L1s, which require petitioning from a US company and special skills.

Is it a requirement that i write toefl or SAT inorder to be able to obtain a US student's visa?, for example a school X offers admission and testing of applicants online, and does not require toefl or SAT for application, do i have to write TOEFL or SAT for the visa application, or will inability to present TOEFL or SAT reduce my chances of obtaining visa, also if i have been awarded financial aid what should be the status of the bank statement to be presented?.Hoping for your reply Thanks.

Hello benji93,

You are not required to take the SAT or TOEFL to receive a student visa to the US.

Hello Dotmax53,

If you have already interviewed with us and received a visa saying that you were going to Florida, it is possible there will be some confusion at the port of entry. This is an issue to discuss with Customs and Border Protection.

However, if you haven't had your visa interview yet, simply explain the situation at that time and the consular officer will understand.

Hello tibass,

This is perhaps the most common question we get on Nairaland. If you go through the prior pages on this thread, it is answered at least once a week. Can any other Nairalanders answer this for us?

Hello Queenbeloveth,

Don't turn to us for gambling advice - we don't give odds and chances to visa applicants. If you think you are qualified for a visa given the requirements you can review on our website (see --> http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/niv_faq2012.html), then you can apply and we will make a determination.

You don't need any other document; all you should go with is your international passport and the DS-160 form confirmation page..

Hi Vo, September 2014, I decided to take a trip to the U.S, California to be precise. I was planning to begin my undergraduate studies in the U.S by Spring 2016. The trip was meant to explore California state and also her educational institutions to enable me make an informed decision against my Spring 2016 studies. So, I applied for a B1/B2 Visa, my interview was February 2015. I was denied the visa by a beautiful, small sized white lady at the Abuja Visa office. She said I haven't been able to adequately prove binding ties to my home country. I own a registered business here Nigeria. I am 28 years old and engaged to be married, I was 27 at the time and Single.
The issue now is that, I am ready to proceed to the U.S for my studies. I have applied to 4 Institutions ( 2 universities and 2 community colleges ). And so far, I've only received I-20 from one of the community colleges. VO, I want you to sincerely tell me the embassy's view of Visa applications from Nigerians aiming for community colleges. And which of the following options would you recommend for me: 1. Proceed with my Visa application with the I-20 issued by the community college. 2. Wait till any of the 4 year college issues me a I-20. I Am eagerly waiting for your responds please.

i VO, I have a concern, I an expatriate staff working in a West African country with the resident/work permit of the country I work in . A lot of my colleagues have stated that the US consular officers ask them to go back to Nigeria to apply for US Visa without conducting further interview.

I will like to know why this is the practice. This is because it is quite stressful flying down to Nigeria just to obtain a Visa. Is the resident/work permit not enough?

Good day VO,

I am currently in the States working with an H1B visa. I had my H1B visa approved sometimes in June this year. I plan to travel to Nigeria next year to have my Passport stamped. Please what are the documents that are required for H1B Visa passport stamping. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hello Okontami,

It is not a requirement to interview in your home country; however you must establish ties to whichever country you are applying from. In fact, in all posts the officer is assessing the applicant's ties to the country he/she is applying from. If you are only working temporarily in that country and you are there alone without your family (if you have one) and have not established ties there, it will be challenging to obtain a visa.

Hello VO,

If a Canadian Citizen is making a short trip (1 or 2 days) to the US for volunteer or charity work, will he need to get a work visa? If a visa is needed, can he get it at a port of entry?

Thanks

Good morning abujaniv. I am an 18year old student currently in third year at the University. I want to apply for an immigrant visa to the United states.

Now my confusion is this, I'm thinking of applying for an EB-3 visa because it's for the "other workers" category immigrating to the United states. But the backlog duration is six years. Which, is quite a lot. And by then, I should be through with school, and with a bachelor degree. In what ways does this affect my EB-3 visa application?

And if I apply for an EB-2 visa, how long is the backlog? Note, I'm still in school while applying for the EB-2 visa.

Thanks. I look forward to hearing from you. smiley

Hi VO, Please I will like u to help with this questions.A lady wants to apply for a uk or us visa for holiday with her son. She is gainfully employed with a manthly salary of 400k plus. The main issue here is that all her documents: statement of acct,I d card, passport ,etc are in her maiden name while the son's name is in his father's names. Pls , will this affect the application? She has the boy's birth certificate stating her as the mother(with maiden name) and the boys fathers name as the father. She didn't have a marriage certificate bcus they didnt do a "proper wedding/marriage". What are her chance and also what other document will she b needing from the child's father?
