thanks...can I reapply next week tuesday or wait till after Xmas to apply.....the school resumes Jan 4th....
Yes but first call Cleveland, tell them that you've been denied and you need a letter of extension, extending your date of arrival. This letter is usually 10 days but then, you need 14 days and not 2 weeks because 2 weeks sound too long.

All in all, prepare well and have someone question you like a VO before you hit the embassy again. Remember to pray for luck and is very important.

Transcript from my visa interview: I reached Walter carrighton around 6:55, my aunt's driver drove me to Lekki claiming he know US embassy, when he discovered he was lost after asking people on the road who told him its at VI, we decided to trace our steps back. Thank God we were on track and got to the US embassy through the second gate. On reaching the US embassy, I immediately reached for the shortest queue thinking its the F1 visa queue before someone informed me if am an immigrant, then redirected me to where the F1 visa queue was. Oboi it was the longest queue there. I was the second to the last person on that queue. After we all entered, passed through the security protocols, verified our documents; i-20, sevis fee receipt and appointment letter, we had our seats outside about to enter the interview hall. After waiting for some time we were ushered in, where we did our finger prints and our documents were arranged. Then I finally joined the queue that led to the F1 visa interviewer. Sorry for the long story before the transcript just wanted to create a feel of how that place was. After waiting on the queue for about two hours and thirty minutes, standing oooo. It got to my turn, and it went as thus.
Me: Good Morning
VO: 'no reply', Pass me your documents, speaking angrily or so I thought, after denying so many people already although the two people in front of me were given before them only few people were given.
Me: passed the documents and waited as my heart stated beating, ehnnn are u scared, I began speaking in tongues as I brother has advised here, then confidence came from no where and I became stable back.
VO; where are you going to?
Me; Arkansas Tech university, in Arkansas
VO: what do you want to study. Me: Electrical Engineering. now opening my i-20 and looking at her computer and was just typing, only God know what she was typing.
VO: How many schools did you apply to
Me: four schools
VO: mention them
Me: Arkansas state university, Arkansas tech university, south Carolina state university, Fairleigh Dickinson university
VO: why did you choose Arkansas Tech
Me: Basically because of its tuition fees and the major they are offering which is Electrical Engineering computer Engineering option which entail more of Computer programming, organisation and design from the freshman year as it would give me an edge than the conventional Electrical engineering offered in other schools.
VO: how did you know about the school?
Me: I did my SAT and TOEFL tutorials with an Educational consultant where they give advice and information to students on universities in the US based on their tuition fees, our course of study and hmmmmm, wasn't sure of what to say next....
VO: now nodding her head, for my mind I was like yessssssssss. Who is paying your schools fees
Me: my father is my sponsor
VO: what does he do
Me: he is an assistant chief technologist in #she cuts in.
VO: no no no no no, I mean what does he do not where he works
Me: he teaches in a tertiary institution
VO: what does your mother do
Me: she works with a company don't really know her position but I mentioned the company
VO: do you have any relative in Arkansas
Me: no, not at all
VO: stretches to bring the white paper. You visa has been approved bla bla bla, didn't really hear the rest. Then for the first time since the interview she smiled and faced up from her computer to look at me.
Me: is that all?
VO: yeah,
Me: alright thank you very much maaaaa.

One major thing I noticed was that all the people who dressed well yesterday got their visas. There was a tall lady on red and stripped black gown she got her viss after her nobody got visa till the guy on suit and the lady also on suit in front of me. And I also on a suit with a jacket and a low hair cut wasn't denied, with little question asked. So pls dress well, don't just wear a shirt and jeans, I noticed a lot of guys dressed casually but it doesn't protray entirely a student characteristics.

I think it's now a routine for the CBP due to frequent terrorist attacks. Watched the news yesterday where the President said they will increase scrutiny to avoid allowing perceived terrorists into the US.

While I was seated at the DHS I thought it was because of the items I declared.

Yeah sure jah101, you're right its by the grace of God but one's appearance gives one confidence. Like when you pass and everyone looks at you, this gives you kind of assurance that the visa interviewer would want to hear you out and even guide you through your mistakes. That's what I think sha. Because confidence is very essential in getting that visa

Thanks bro

You can take any food item except for seeds like beans etc. U can carry as much as u want as long as ur total luggage weight is within the amount specified by ur airline.

When you about to touch down in US, a declaration form is distributed to visitors to fill and declare what they have.

5 Ways to Look Confident in an Interview (Even When You're Freaking Out) 'THINK THIS MIGHT HELP SOMEONE'

1. Just Breathe

While waiting to be greeted by your interviewer, take a few moments to do some breathing. (Yes, like a pregnant woman in labor!) By doing this, you can redirect the troublesome emotion you’re experiencing (e.g., nervousness or fear) and be able to focus on something else (in this case, the amazing job that you’re hoping to land). Holistic health expert Andrew Weil, MD praises breathing exercises, saying, “Since breathing is something we can control and regulate, it is a useful tool for achieving a relaxed and clear state of mind.”

To do this most effectively, take a deep breath through your nose (really feel your stomach expand) and then slowly blow it out through your mouth. Repeat this three times, while concentrating on centering your thoughts. The best thing about this technique is that you can do it anywhere (and quite unnoticeably), so if you feel your nerves start to swell during the interview, simply take another breath.

2. Don’t Fidget

Nervous fidgeting is one of the most telltale signs that you’re nervous, so this is an incredibly important skill to master. My go-to trick is to keep my hands clasped together on the table or in my lap to avoid any subconscious table tapping, hair twirling, or otherwise noticeable squirming. I’m also a leg-shaker—but keeping my hands in my lap and applying a bit of pressure to my legs helps remind me to keep the shaking to a minimum.

If you think you don’t have any fidgety habits, you might want to think again—most people aren’t aware of their own nervous tendencies because they’re such an ingrained part of their natural behavior. To double check, try doing a few mock interviews with a friend who can call you out on any fidgeting. Once you know exactly what to avoid, you can practice controlling it.

3. Make Eye Contact

One of the best ways to fool a hiring manager into thinking you’re more confident than you feel is to keep steady, natural eye contact throughout the interview. Mary Griffin, a Human Resources Director for a national healthcare company says, “A key giveaway of a nervous Nellie is a lack of direct eye contact—looking down, looking away, and not looking the interviewer directly in the eyes. A more confident interviewee appears to be engaged with the interviewer.”

One way to remind yourself to make regular eye contact is to focus on a spot between the interviewer’s eyes. You can even imagine a colorful bulls-eye there—whatever it takes to keep your eyes from wandering too much.

On the flip side, you don’t want to stay so intensely focused on making eye contact that you end up sending out a creepy vibe! So remember to take natural breaks, like looking down at your resume every once in a while. It’s a balancing act, so just keep practicing until it feels comfortable.

4. Press Pause

Some of us (myself included!) tend to ramble when we’re nervous. This can be dangerous because once we start talking, it’s incredibly easy to veer off topic and say more than what’s needed—or worse, more than what’s appropriate.

To preempt any rambling, I try to answer each question with only one thought or idea at a time. For example, if you’re asked to describe a trait you disliked about a previous supervisor, you could say, “I found that her tendency to micromanage conflicted with my productivity.” Then stop. This will save you from unnecessary add-ons like “She was a total control freak whose inability to let me make my own decisions made me want to run down the hall screaming obscenities”—even if that may be the most honest answer.

The key to mastering this technique is to keep your tone sincere, so that even if your responses are brief, they don’t come off as curt or dismissive. It’s more about sticking to one main topic per question instead of going off a nervous tangent. And don’t worry—if the interviewer wants you to elaborate on a certain topic, she’ll ask.

5. Think Positively

Finally, calm your nerves by reminding yourself that you deserve to be there. Hey, you wouldn’t have been invited to interview if you weren’t being seriously considered as a candidate! Use this knowledge to your advantage to mentally pump yourself up before the interview. It can take the edge off enough to allow you to approach the situation with a burst of self-assurance and poise.

Most importantly, remember that while you certainly need to be calm, collected, and confident in order to score the job, an interview is not a life-or-death situation. Hiring managers are humans, too—and they’ll understand and forgive a few minor nervous blips.

So with that in mind, relax, gather your strength, and walk into that interview with a newfound confidence (at least on the outside!).

I once mentioned you. I know your profile, and it's likely going to land you the Javelina Graduate Scholarship that waives half the tuition. However, you will need to contact the faculty for possible teaching or research assistantship, to defray remaining expenses.

hello house, i just wanted to ask now that $1 = 280 naira, for those paying close to $20,000 or more as tuition, how are u guys going to cope, or will banks charge u at a different rate as compared to the 280, or u guys are just going to manage and pay the fees like that.
The rate at which the naira has fallen and is still falling is making me to reconsider my decision on doing my masters in the us, am beginning to consider canada as a better option for my msc since their dollar is still low.
Or it seems like its not affecting anybody here since no one is even talking about it.
