I have seen this coming since last month especially that of unilorin nursery and primary school staff. All of them has been sacked, I mean the whole staff. Unfortunately more sacking period is still coming in the federal level. Good bless each and everyone one of us. 1 Like |

Federal government only told universities not to continue paying the staff of their various staff primary and secondary schools from government treasury as it regards staff schools as private arrangements of the staff of those universities. The university workers are being paid salaries and it is not part of the conditions of service of lecturers that the government should be responsible for free education of their children. By the way, can the union answer how their members in many universities, polytechnics and colleges of education that have no staff schools are compensated for the subsidy that some of their colleagues enjoyed in the institutions that have staff schools. 1 Like |

The 2014 memorandum and report did not indicate or incite "sack" it was a report based on the national income and salaries blah blah....it was based on that report that the supposed sack is emanating from. bro nobody sacked or planned sacking anyone...even if there was a planned sack since the last Govt. was tagged clueless I supposed the sensible present administration will jettison the report.... 1 Like |

Ugwoke added that the 2,000 workers affected in the planned retrenchment exercise were drawn from 31 universities and were employed by the councils of the various institutions to make the requisite contribution to educational development in the institutions and the society over the years. The councilmof the various universities should fund the staff school from their IGR He stated further that the circular dated April 21, 2015, was attached with a memorandum and report from the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission dated March 2014 and February 2014 respectively. This memo was before PMB assumed power, the kind of bobby trap PMB and NOI (Coordinating ministervofvthe economy) left for PMB, only God will judge them According to him, the commission responded to the circular by directing the removal of personnel of staff schools and other institutions affiliated to the universities from the payroll. He said, “The implementation of this directive would be a gross violation and breach of the SSANU/FGN 2009 Agreement, which explicitly stated that the University shall bear full capital and recurrent cost of University Staff primary schools. The agreement is for the "University" to bear the capital and recurrent expenditure.The FGN has no busijess funding recurrent cost going by the letter and spirit ofvthe agreement.The universities charges parents and guardians of this schools hukongous amount, last time I checked, ABU demonstration was charging over 60K for each student, the differende between staff and non staff was just 5K.So what does the university do with the money they are follectingbfrom parent. “It is further shocking to note that till date, the Federal Ministry of Defence still funds the capital and recurrent costs of over 100 Army Children Schools, Command Children Schools, Navy Primary Schools and Air Force Schools; while the Ministry of Police Affairs still funds its Police Children Schools, all from the Federal Treasury. “We are surprised that an agency of government, the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, could continue with this callous, wicked, insensitive and ill-intentioned agenda, despite our calls, letters, press releases and publications on the issue. “With the advent of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, we had written series of public and confidential letters on same with no positive response.” He said that 90 per cent of the pupils of the university staff schools were children of the staff of the institutions stressing that the schools were established alongside other academic components of the universities in some cases. The unionist said SSANU had to give the December 24, 2015 deadline to the Federal Government as part of the efforts to prevent the over 2000 workers of the universities from being sacked. Darammliveth:The University administrators do not have to sack the teachers in their primary and secondary schools, they just need to devise ways of making these primary and secondary schools to be self-sustaining and profitable. International School UNILAG, makes a revenue of about N1 billion per annum, a school cannot be making that sum of money and you expect the Federal Government to be saddled with the responsibility of payment of teachers salaries and maintenance of facilities. 2 Likes |
