You are right, If it was really sin, Paul wouldn't ve mentioned it or he would ve mentioned it in a negetively.
Thanks and God bless u.
Seldom do scriptures employ analogies of detestable things to communicate a point. In fact I think they don't

Look at all Jesus' parables; whenever they were teaching DOs, they used positive activities and whenever they taught DON'Ts they used negative experience.

In Malachi 1, YHWH is saying that even earthly kings don't receive such wretched giving.

So Paul in my opinion would have greatly erred in employing the then paganism-laced sporting events in his analogies if at the same time he was strongly persuaded it was against God to participate in them.

In short, from Paul's usage of the contemporary sports, we learn that at least he was not opposed to them.

Image123,
The bolded is a bit funny.
Sports are not the only competitive events you participate in; applying for jobs is another where you work hard and pray to beat other applicants.

Another one is promotion. You may not wish your colleagues to lose but by praying you move into a competitive position, you are exactly doing that.

Education too, especially in scholarships. You really want to win at others' expense

Even in business. If you set up your business and pray for customers to come your way, you really pray they leave their current preferred sellers for you.

And isn't courtship itself competitive? When you are attracted to a lady and approach her, are you not wishing or praying she abandons all other interested blokes and accepts you?

It's all about demand and supply basics. When supply for anything valuable is low, we compete increasing the demand. Not all get the scarce item. This is an acceptable principle of life

In short, I think this is the weakest argument against sports; that there can't be love in competition.

Whatsover we do, we should do all to the glory of God. If there's a way possible for Judo, wrestling, boxing, gambling etc would glorify God. How it can be possible, if it is possible, by all means, then do it.

You ignored the tenuous claim that competition and love are mutually exclusive and on this basis all sports are anti-love. Please respond to this. I have endeavored to demonstrate that you may avoid competitive sports but you compete in just about every other aspect of your life and unless you are prepared to discard these as well, you would be inconsistent to apply it to sports wink

I totally agree with you. People pray for promotion in thier work place etc..for someone to be promoted to be boss in any organisation or whatever, someone must be demoted. There is this competition spirit in all aspect of life today. Even in some Church. May God help us.

i focused on the thrust of my argument if we can call it that. i wasn't looking to present a 'strong argument' but an 'appropriate argument' for the time and purpose. Love indeed takes out competition, it creatres a scenario and possibility where you can all be winners.

Then why not apply this 'appropriate argument' to just Bout EVERY other human activity which is competitive including courtship and marriage, education, employment and so forth?

Bunch of lemmings.

Yahweh hates competition, but commanded the Hebrews to war and kill off their neighboring tribes, for their own survival.
Competition for survival? huh

God hated competition, but all living things must complete to survive,.. A survival that, as a necessity, must completely negate love.
I guess no one here has heard of survival of the fittest.

If we showed love to chickens, cows and fishes (other living creatures we share the planet with) , I wonder what the food chain would look like.

WTF do they teach these lemmings in school these days ? huh

Please, try and see things from a broader perspective before commenting. The problem with religious folks like you is that you find it hard to handle bare cold facts concerning what you believe in. You opened a thread titled "what does the bible say about sports". I can assure you that there is no where in the bible where sporting activities is mentioned (if it was, it would be deemed as idol worship). In my previous comment, i made it clear that the history of sports is associated with the worship of Greek gods. Do not take my word for it. If you doubt me, do your research and see what you come up with. The first stadia/amphitheater was dedicated to Hercules. What does that tell you?

Do your own research and you'll see everything for yourself (if you are willing to face the cold truth). Nobody is attacking your religion or has issues with your god. It's the simple basic truth i'm telling you. You don't have to get all insecure about it and make it all about your god. Find out the truth for yourself and prove me wrong (if you can).

Nuff said!
Nonsense! First of all does Hercules exist? To even start with. angry
