... Are you trying to say you do not understand why the CBN is doing what it is doing?....

Economics 101:
The nation is import dependent which means there's a high forex outflow. The main source of forex inflow is oil and oil prices have crashed massively to an 11-year low (even though expenditure has increased massively). Right now the nation spends more forex (via importation) than it earns (oil export) and consequently, the stock of foreign exchange is reducing drastically.

These checks by the CBN are simply to prevent Nigeria from becoming Greece or Venezuela. The CBN is struggling to prevent a situation where the foreign reserves are depleted on ebay businesses or people going on holidays abroad and then in a few months, the country wouldnt have any forex left to import food to feed its populace.

Just incase you didnt know before now but viewed this from only a political angle, I'm sure you should now understand the picture better with my explanations above and you should now understand why the CBN is desperately trying to prevent the outflow of forex; it is to save you and I from the Greek / Venezuelan situation which is imminent in a few months if oil prices don't come up.

Please extrapolate your economics 101 to other sectors of the economy.

What measures are in place to diversify the economy? The giant strides by the previous administration to diversify the economy via agriculture and local manufacturing, praytell what has happened to them? We need to stop thinking of oil only, because it is at times like these that other micro sectors of the economy could be boosted for sustenance. Please how is the government going to stem the consequent rise in crime rate with all the voodoo economics? At the end of the day, the average man doesnt understand squat from all the economic jargons, how is his condition addressed?

ur argument made sense but, not total sense. Yes their is outflow of forex but, u fail to mention that the Government refuse it's people to deposit their inflow forex in their banks and that's making it difficult for banks to find forex to give to its customers.

And Nigeria toes the path of venezuela. Buhari and Maduro the same thing. The former a "certificateless" "socialist" dictator the latter a former bus conductor "socialist" dictator. Similar policies and similar effects on the citizens.

Change indeed. Am not surprised by this archiac policy by the current administration. PMB did it before in 1984, he's doing it again.

Thank U.1984.they where a far land away frm their dad's scrotum like the mumu calling me ice cream brain who can't comprehend. I think the naira should be devalued. We should explore that avenue.Someone on this forum once predicted this to happen cos of the policies our gear chewing president is enforcing on us no one took notice the few who did called him wailer.

Yes my brother, these were concerns that were raised here on these forum but people were branded wailers. Education is a tool to think I was taught, it becomes glaring that the 15million who voted for nepa certificate and supported a poorly educated bsc holder to man our economy, have made a very bad decision on behalf of all reasonable and educated citizens, home and abroad.

US imports a lot more than most people think. Devaluation has worked for us in the past, it won't be the first time. The FG will not be able to sustain the aftershock of its present forex policies. Suffice it to say that this is not a military regime where all decisions are final. This is democracy...or at least a semblance of it and issues ought to be democratically explored. I don't see how this will help FDI in any way and Nigeria needs it a lot. No one will invest in a battered economic clime with unfavorable business environment. In fact it is tending towards a hostile business environment.

there is what is called trade in balance especially with respect to value of export to import..by all calculation Nigeria is a import dependent country...countries like Japan and china periodically devalue their currency to make their manufactured goods cheap to the outside world

God knows. I can only profit from their misfortunes. Period. I refuse to be dragged into their murky waters. Sometimes God allows calamity to befall people when they refuse to acknowledge his work. He did it with the israelites of old, this is Nigeria's turn. They didnt appreciate what they had and were building, so they would so wish for those days they condemned to come back again.

Cut this channel out even when banks cant pay dollars to customers courtesy of cbn regulation.

That will be more pressure on black market bereau the change.

Did this clueless buhari govt appoint a minister of finance who was suppose to manage this economy better than okonjo iweala.

it's a pity you don't understand the responsibility of the finance minister, you can attack the president and cbn but not the finance minister on this.
Her duty is restricted to the fiscal policy, cbn is fully responsible for the monetary policy, so reason properly when criticizing next time.

First of all, you are not the average man, so even though the average man wouldn't understand what is going on, I dont expect you not to understand.

Diversification of the economy is obviously the only way out of this mess but it is a process which requires some good time. Obviously the last administration tried to open up agriculture but even after 5 years, how much extra could we make from that?... You would agree with me that diversifying is a pretty slow process, not something you would expect to happen miraculously in 7 months.

And yeah, I'm sure you are educated so you should appreciate the deplorable situation of things vis-a-vis the crash in oil prices (at a time we survive only on oil) and the fall and fall of our forex reserves. This has nothing to do with voodoo economics, this is a common sense matter of survival. If the average man on the street will not understand, it is a shame you dont understand this too and also expect governmwnt to perform miracles.

You have obviously chosen to politicise a common sense issue so I can appreciate why you feign ignorance on the state of things.
