If ur inverter charging mode is slow, then u will need to buy a smart charger

The inverter has a switch at the back to switch between 10A or 20A battery charging capacity so it's just like the smart charger. I haven't tried to completely drain the battery as I am not always at home so I can't be sure if it charges slowly or quick yet

I took my friend to the battery seller yesterday to buy 2 more batteries to do his own set up cos his generator wouldn't power his 175W refrigerator. He's going to set his up like mine too

Hahaha! I won't mind

No light now, Inverter at work.

The Mercury 2.4KVA is a 24V inverter as such 2 batteries need to be connected in series to make it work, additional batteries will then be added in parallel to the initially connected batteries in series.

The Battery connector cables came with the new inverter

[b]Ceejay / makavele please I will be grateful if you can answer my questions.

Q1. When a device does not have power rating in watts but has voltage and current rating. It is correct to calculate the power with P=IV.

A1. You are correct.

Q2. If the above is correct a device with 100-240v rating. Which voltage should we use 100 or 240 or there average.

A2. Most devices rated this way are smps powered. They have the circuit to keep their power consumption constant by adjusting the current that they consume.
They consume maximum current at the minimum voltage.
E.g 200 watt at 100 to 240 volt
P = IV.
I = P รท V
At 240v , current is 0.83 amps
220v, current is 0.91 amps
100v , current is 2.0 amps

Q3. And lastly how do we determine the power rating of a laptop? From its adaptor/charger or from the laptop itself. Because mine has different rating.
Does the power consumption of a laptop on use differ from its shutdown but charging mode.

A3. Power consumption of laptop varies according to the tasks been performed at anytime. E.g the CD drive doesn't work all the time. The speakers too. And sometimes the external devices plugged to the USB makes power consumption to vary.
Highest consumption is during charging and heavy CPU usage.

If a brand new Inverter is to expensive for u, u can call the guy who sell ups at oshodi, I saw two tokumbo Inverter in his shop yesterday and they are not Up to 10k but I see no difference between the inverters I saw in his shop with the 650va ups, I asked if I can plug a refrigerator to the inverter and he said no, but the inverters are slim and small,
All depends on individual and their pocket..

I think they only have the HGL series like my type
Charge that battery before use and please dont combine with that ur former battery, let us know how many hours on ur appliances

bros na wah! the battery is reliable.

wait a minute! did I hear you say charge the battery before use? yawah don gas be that o! I used it straight 8hrs yesterday without charging! I put it off myself as it didn't go off and my inverter didn't signal that the battery was weak. no light since Wednesday, to make matters worse, NEPA (PHCN or DISCO) or whatever they call themselves has forsaken us in Gbagada. Light situation demands urgent declaration of 'state of EMERGENCY' ..no light to charge and no fuel. I don tire! solve one problem, another one emerges. up till now that I type these words, still no light. I'm thinking of buying one 80watt solar panel (10k) with a 10amp solar charge controller, so I can forget DISCO and their stupid supply. the most annoying is that they bring estimated bill of 10k for me every month.

1pcs New Mercury 2.4KVa Inverter = #22,000

How many batteries ?
Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by pato405(m): 5:05pm On Dec 20, 2015
I dey do some interesting calculation dey follow this stuff. very exciting! my little research suggest that most of these batteries give out 50% of their amperage conveniently before the red-alert comes on from the inverter.

e.g I use a 65AH battery, this means that my battery can comfortably give me 1/2 of 65AH whic is about 32.5AH

Now 32.5AH X 12volts = 390watt hours.
So if I use 10watt fan and 30watt bulbs = 40watt, I should expect battery to last: 390watt hours / 40watt = 9hours 45mins. Ok now, This means I need more batteries to stay longer! *Sighs*

It is timed... There will be a % energy loss, i think about 0.8% so you shouldn't expect to get the entire power from the battery but whatever power the battery will deliver, it delivers it with time
