As we are chatting here now; the vanguard newspaper reports that fuel is sold in Jigawa for #300 per litre!!

In Ibadan now, there is no fuel to even buy for #300 not to talk of #87!! The only people helping Nigerians in Ibadan are Bovas and NNPC filling stations at #87 and even as at now they don't have fuel and the people that will buy the fuel for the #87 have their vehicles permanently parked at the filling stations waiting for the fuel to arrive!! Of which, based on information available from this current government; jonathan is this cause - this is notwithstanding that Buhari collected approval for supplementary budget #575billion of which #108billion was used to pay subsidy -which before May 29, according to APC was a scam!!

A man cannot curse the light of another man's day and expect to see light in his own day; the truth of the matter is that APC is very inexperienced as far as power at the centre is concerned and will go nowhere fast in a short while unless they are willing to draw on the experience of seasoned technocrats who have served close to the centre within the last 16 years!! PDP is vaguely aware of this and that is why PDP isn't giving the APC much heat, because they sense that blunder will come soon, consistently!!


APC seem to be willing to re-invent the wheel and believe that by doing away with everything that has a hue of PDP's presence in Abuja they will be able to tighten their grip on power!!

Unfortunately for them, they have failed to realise that the Nigerian socio-political space has more variables to be considered than what you will find in Lagos or Osun State!!

Having said that, whether APC or PDP, Professional decamper/anywhere-belle-face/Ashewo or Freeagent may God help us all!!

for over 4 years oil was sold for above $100 instead of investing our increases we went on spending and looting spree. Countries like Saudi and russia saved $trillions during this period. Instead our government during this period of increase depleted the few savings we had and even indebted us more. No functional refinery, several 10% performing contracts, subsidies for undelivered products and services, salary increases, tuition increase, proliferation of private jets... If a new government should propose a 6.6 trillion budget @$32/barrel with just 15% estimated deficit are we not suppose to start asking former government question why they proposed 4trillion budget @ $130/barrel yet with just 21% budget performance? There are 2 options 1. The new government should propose a 2 trillion budget and wait till God-nows-when when the oil price will surge back to $80 dollar or 2. Take a daring action... borrow and source for fund to finance a budget of change that will change the country reliance on the doomed oil price. I think PDP should keep shut since they refuse to take the economy away from one product economy during out time of plenty

What we should clamoring for now is sincerity of government.
We should hold our government responsible at all levels
The earlier we stop using double standard the better for us.
Is it not the same set of people we agitated and forced the previous government into sharing funds in ECA now blaming it for squandering it?

This is an ambitious budget that is designed for accelerated development however, the budget has some praise, knocks and questions mark remember that budget is the qualitative expression of the government in monetary terms.

How do government intend to borrow to fund the deficit? It will be difficult for the government to raise external loans because of the fast depletion of the foreign exchange reserve which has dampened the confidence of the foreign investor in the ability of the government to serve the debt in the future and internal loans raised may not be sufficient to meet the deficit.

The budget for housing, work and power is insufficient considering the fact that three major sectors that need urgent attentions are combined together and they are key driver of economic growth and development.

I commended the effort of the government to gainfully employ 500,000 teachers across the states . It shows that the government recognise the high level of unemployment in the country.

Government maynot realise so much revenue from other sources such as taxes, import tarrif as the profit realised by most companies across the state are decreasing considering the high cost of running business and the rate of importation is reducing.

I hope the government will implement this ambitious and bold budget to the benefits of all nigerians considering the assumptions upon which the budget was prepared- exchange rates, inflation rate, price of oil barrel in the international market with target sale of 2billion barrel daily and others

That is about 21.2% of the anticipated revenue. Therefore oil price shortfalls will have a direct effect on that part of the revenue. They'll be short by maximum of 388 billion naira (considering that the oil price will not fall to $20 on January 1 and stay there till december 31). Of course we can't rule out indirect effects but the outlook is not as bad as if they had focused on oil as the major source of the projected revenue. They are already planning to borrow >2 trillion naira so the shortfall may easily find its way into the borrowing too.

PS: I'm not interested in GEJ/PMB politricking. They are all the same to a large extent.

A vast chunk is projected on debt which they must repay.

Have you considered the fact that they are hoping for better crude pricing to offset the deficit even though crude prices are expected to remain low for the next 7yrs?

The US is bent on lowering crude prices to hurt Russia's mono economy that's why they will resume export soon and are expected to overtake Russua's 8 million bpd output.

Have you factored that?

Very objective comment. Anyone with half a brain knows that a budget is a projection. The key is to work towards achieving it as much as possible. Even in ones private business such projections are made. Anything from 65-70% achievement would be considered a positive grade.

Rather than criticising before the budget even takes effect, watch and critic the budgets execution where it fails to meet set projections. Then you'll have a verifiable point.

Sometimes I Laugh when I hear people talk of APC and PDP and leave out the real issues that are the focus of a debate in an annoymous forum line Nairaland.

Don't get me wrong; I see nothing wrong with somebody just supporting Buhari's government in a presidential election just because he likes Buhari, but when I see people harp so much on the PDP/APC affliation; then I feel tempted to ask!

In the midst of all this party bickering; how many people even realise that Buhari was actually a former card carrying member of the PDP??

I guess many people - including all the juvenile political critics of the individual parties - don't even know that the only reason he left PDP for ANPP back then, which is still the same reason he left ANPP for CPC which eventually merged with other parties to form APC is because he complained bitterly that at every turn he wasn't made the party flag bearer for presidential elections!

He has always made it clear, in every political party he goes that he wants to rule this country and I believe somehow God has blessed him with that opportunity; from May 29 to December 29 will mark exactly 7 months, by december 29 his government will be 7 months old!!

Do you expect the government to budget for private companies who own the DISCOs & GENCOs, what belongs to government is the bridge-transmission. Works will take the lion share in that ministry because there is so much to fix on our roads.

as it stands the government need to build more power generating station,because the private sector alone does not have the financial muscle to build enough of those station to cater for the need of our population.
