RVP is just an opportunist. United had a better performance in previous season despite:
De Gea being new and conceding cheap goals.
Paul Scholes absent.
Half of the team injured for nearly two months.

Rooney goals per minutes played was better than RVP's in 2011/2012 just before SAF bought them. This was despite Rooney playing behind Chicha/Welbeck. RVP however was a lone striker. Rooney was deployed to midfield in about two games when our players were injured.

Rooney 27 goals in 2839 minutes = 105.15
Persie 30 goals in 3334 minutes = 111.13

How many matches did we win 2-1, 3-2 & 4-3?? With RVP not having a hand in at least one of those goals?? I still cant forget dat boxing day match against Newcastle at OT(4-3)!!

I didn't understand the Paul Scholes angle. Please the problem didn't all come from the back. RVP and Kagawa changed our shape. Before everyone defended deap including the number 10, then we caught opponents with a high speed counter once we had the ball. Plenty of space to run into by the winners. So the wingers had many Assists and goals before RVP came. Valencia had the highest Assists from open play in the league in just 2100 minutes. Nani, Young, Giggs had plenty of Assists. As soon as RVP and Kagawa came, Assist became dry from the wings.
