LEts pray govt can pay the ones borrowed already. GOVT debt is so huge right now, if govt found a way to stop borrowing, they would. So they have to pay the least interest in whatever they borrow now. Lets pray the rates improves next year. But i dont know if it will go as high as it was under GEJ when oil was high, because i guess this interest will be paid from oil revenue . |

ednut1 and the house, greetings! My tbills investment matured days ago but I'm at my wit ends atm. The rates are not encouraging as it seems. Thinking of waiting till March or there about before dabbling into tbills again. In the mean time, Access and GT say they can give me 4% on fixed deposit while I wait for the tbills. What do you guys think? |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 11:06pm On Dec 22, 2015 |
They will use ur money to purchare tbill at 4.8 and pay u at end of tenure |

Bamz:I think you should consider the money market for the main time or better wait till next T.bills auction since your willingly to accept 4%; the next auction can't possibly go below 4% I presume. Am surprised that people get so attached to a particular investment vehicle which shouldn't be. And there again it balls down to our investment objective. If our investment objective is moving from point A to point B, and of course with the assumption that point B is a much better state. Then it wouldn't make any sense being attached to a specific investment vehicle. Its like someone traveling from Lagos to Abuja. When you board a bus, you obviously wouldn't want to drive the vehicle or own it. All you should be interested in is the bus taking you to your destination in this case which is Abuja. Merry Christmas to the house! And as we celebrate the season, remember that for "Every Naira you keep, puts tomorrow's worries to sleep. " |

Pls i will like to clear something that has been bothering me with this t.b. What if, you bought this treasure bills through a bank lets say diamond bank, and unfortunately due to some reasons, this particular bank shutdown and close before your t.b matures meaning you are yet to receive your capital and full interest.Pls what will be the fate of your investment will u lose your capital or wat ?? Cuz i heard fixed deposit is more risky than t.b so i really want to know the authenticity behind this. |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by unite4real: 9:09am On Dec 25, 2015 |
Luckystar220:When you buy Tbills, it is the government that owes you and not the banks. The banks are simply the dealers. So if a bank goes under, it has nothing to do with your investment |

| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Chukzyfcb(m): 2:23pm On Dec 25, 2015 |
According to the 2016budget, thegovernment will need to borrow over 1trillion naira both domestic and internationally to help fund capital expenditure. With this, I expect the rates to shoot up because no Investor will be invessting in a system where the interest rates is a sharp contrast from Inflation rate. So its a matter of time. Meanwhile I don't expect it to happen with January. Business activities are always very slow during january coz of excess spending during the festive season. So we should be looking @ positive change of Interest rate from Febuary when business & contracts will start being awarded! #compliments of the season tho |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Chukzyfcb(m): 2:32pm On Dec 25, 2015 |
yomi007k:No, biafra acheivement cannot affect ones tbills or bonds but I know for certain, Civil war or any riot in a country will affect it. That's the only risk associated with the Investment but the risk is very negligible. During the upcoming election, stock prices were crashing ,Investors were pulling out their funds from our money markets, simply because there was so much tension that people envisaged the breakup of Nigeria. CIA prediction too that Nigeria will break up in 2015 helped fueled it too. Even Importers refused to do business, so their money wouldnt be tied down all coz of the tension. But like I said, the risk is negligible in Nigeria for one not to participate in. If u r too scared of bond/tbills despite the low risk, U CANNOT invest in anything else! |
| Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Sanchase: 3:29pm On Dec 25, 2015 |
Borrowing money to the Fed govt. at this point is a huge risk. The govt has increased its borrowings and Nigeria is gradually falling into huge debts that we don't even know who can implement a favourable policy to wipe these debts. The economy is still very productive, the government officials are constantly feeding us with news of bankruptcy, there is an irony here as we know the economy is productive but still being told its not therefore the government has a hidden agenda. Worse case scenario, these officials upon embezzling huge funds, they will declare themselves bankrupt. The federal govt will seek international bailout, it will get it on strict conditions. Investors in T-bills will be greatly affected. |
