If there were similarities between SAF & Jose, the board could have given Jose the job long ago cuz I remember the man clearly open for the job.
Whatever caused him overlooked couldn't have changed in so short a span & that is why if he's considered three years late will be a clear indication that the board had/has no plan @ all.

The Arsenal you talk of never played better football than MUFC. Comparing their style to Barca those years is a mockery. What they mostly did was pass the aimlessly even in opposition box.
The last time we played in the FA Cup final saw United dominate from blast of the whistle till AET & that included bombardments of Lehmann's goal from all angles possible. I have never seen any better game to completely define an underserved loss!

SAF adapted to each game as they come depending on perceived strength & form. Pragmatic is a careless description. For example the 3-1 victory against Arsenal in the UCL was more of sit back & counter. The first leg was far from such approach & we earned the advantage of a victory & clean sheet from it.
The finals against Barca was a perfect stage to park the bus - SAF never did that even when it was clear to the world we stood very little chance.

Hubris killed us in our last two final against Barcelona the first one was forgivable we had Ronaldo the 2nd one not so much.

Ooh and against Barca in the semi finals of the 07/08 if you remember correctly we parked the bus both legs.
Their is another game against Arsenal, the one Pogba references as when he knew United was not for him SAF filled six defenders in that game despite having Pogba.
I think pragamatism is the right word to describe both of them,the Similarities are there if you look but you're not looking cause Jose make bile rise for your belle.
But the board didn't make that decision SAF did and,we saw what a decent choice he made.

SAF normal way of playing aside against Arsenal is a direct attacking pattern orchestrated from the wings. His best players have always operated from the wings (no 7, 11) - Beckham, Ronaldo, Giggs, etc

SAF is as pragmatic as Mou but their playing patterns are different. Mou is more interested in not conceding ie defending. He believes that if you don't concede you don't lose a game.

LVG's 3-5-2 system at the World Cup was quite effective, I thought he would keep RvP and get a partner (Depay) just as RvP paired with Robben as the mobile front two at the WC. But was surprised when he let RvP go and changed to a 4-3-3.

I think he could still play a front two of Martial and Depay with Rooney behind. Both are very fast and skillful, and if they blend effectively, Man Utd would have another deadly partnership strikeforce of the calibre of Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke.

the Pogba reference was against a Yakubu inspired Blackburn side where he partnered J.S. Park and Rafeal in CM.. that game brought to end E.V.D. Saar's clean sheet record of 14games..
In truth, there's a Polar difference between Mou's style of play and SAF's style.
Mou is a 1:0 disciple while SAF is a 5:4 disciple and you can't achieve that "parking the bus" regularly like u make it seem..

How is he not interested in scoring he won, a UCL final by 3 goals to nothing, I think you've to come to the recent UCL game to see that much goal difference between winners and losers.
We saw how well is chelsea played in the first half of their title challenge,we watched his R.Madrid team P.S (he is still the only to have done it for madrid) through this Barca domination.
What about our last season as league winners when our best player was RVP or that Year Rooney went HAM ?
Or when Ronaldo and beckham left and giggs lost his pace moved to the midfield.
Am not saying we don't use wing we do(most times) but when that options is not available to us we find a way which was what really Made us special.
