And i hope you have a boundry definition of what you call Niger Delta. The oil politics that divided igboland will soon be over and the boundry between igboland and your Niger delta(mainly ijaws) will be drawn.

I thank God my people has always been proud of their igboness despite being in Rivers state. The future holds good for us as igbos with the help of our naturally endowed "survival instincts/spirit"

we are developing.
We are expanding.
We are progressing.

Lest i forget. Obigbo is the satelite town of porthacourt. We are doing Good Infrastructurally and otherwise.
What does the future hold for polluted ijaw land?

Wasnt igboland producing palm oil?

Dont igboland have a seaport at porthacourt?

Somalia has the longest coastline in africa but where are they?

Doesnt igboland have more gas reserves and solid minerals than ijaw land?

Dont we have the human resource?

You once said that igbos lack bargaining chips, so what will be your peoples bargaining chips when pure water is more costly than toxic crude?

We are majorities, we can never loose in this game just like the yorubas and hausas though we have our political differences with them. Minority will always remain minority, they will continue to be pawns in the cheese board of Nigeria

You know what? Eurobomber was right!
well-done, oil made the n.Delta lazy and loose focus, their problem is that they have no precise stand, hence they are being used by all tribes, though the igbos have tried to teach them sense but the have refused to learn.

I pray they wake up now, and see the hand writing that has been written for long on the walls.

Niger Delta is very rich. Before crude oil we were rich in palm oil. In fact, we were called Oil Rivers(Rivers, Warri and Bayelsa states) for a reason. We have rich lland for agriculture and our waters were used for fishing. Though our land and waters have been polluted due to oil exploration. We are rich in gas with abundant gas reserve. Whether oil become worthless or not we won't suffer. We will only adjust.

Most importantly, we have access to see and can easily capitalised on it.

@OP cry not for the Niger Delta. We will do just fine!
What made you rich in palm oil. It was on record that bulk of the oil that sustained the Royal Niger Company atcthat time, was gotten from the hinterlands and not some swampy waterways.

Nairaland needs MODs that track threads to make sure bigots don't derail useful threads. This educative thread has gone down the drain.

OK, I could not go further reading this story the moment I saw this sentence "Which made them lazy, corrupt and underdeveloped"

I take exception to people calling people from the Niger Delta

1- Lazy.

2- Corrupt

3- Underdeveloped.

I do not like talking politics but when other groups think they are invisible to happenings in that nation that infuriates me.

Ok, just to make a minor argument because I am not ready to engage anybody knowing fully well that sentiments is going to becloud their argument.

Please, somebody should answer these questions for me:

Please, define laziness because people from Niger Delta are not the only poor people in Nigeria.

Are people from Niger Delta the only corrupt people or the most corrupt in Nigeria?

Please oh, Is other part of Nigeria considered 'developed'?

How many people from Niger Delta own an oil block?

If you want to talk about developing other aspects of our economy, by no means do so without bringing in the people of Niger Delta.

The country is in a mess, we should be looking for a way to redeem it and not trying all the time to bring a group of people down. If I may ask, what does talking other people down do for you all? Does it change any aspects of your lives? It would be nice to know what it does for you all.

Just irritated.

sorry bro you missing it, the northeast will not suffer, borno state will not suffer, they will fall back to agriculture, in poka there is abundance of onion and carrots, at baga town fishing biz is a multi million naira biz, most of those dried fish you see around are maiduguri fish, do you also know that most of the donkeys you see at obollo afor in enugu and agbor in delta are sourced from borno state? Kano, jigawa are rich in onion, tomatoes, beans, rice, goats and cattle, sokoto, zamfara, kaduna and nassarawa are rich in precious stones, gold, zinc, do you know kaduna is responsible for 60% of ginger grown in Nigeria? Apart from jos plateau, zaria in kaduna supplies a large chunk of Irish potatoes, bro i can go on and on, no state will suffer in Nigeria if crude becomes valueless, so get your facts right.
I can agree with you on borno state, borno is actually the richest state agriculturally only if boko haram can allow borno to work. Nigeria will have beans, fresh water fish and onion in very ample export quantity and quality.
As for Zaria the Zaria people are lazy.
Plateau is the second richest state agriculturally in Nigeria. If only the herdsmen can allow them farm export ready salad fruits and vegetables.

Forget jigawa

Hmmmn see black people hating on each other. I have been reading each and everyone's comment on this thread and I have reached a conclusion that there is no true love in the heart of a black man. the major reason why the westerners and Arabs are developed is that they see themselves as Europeans and Arabs first before ethnicity. for hundreds of years your ancestors fought each others "Intra-tribal" over land and supremacy. and this has never leave the genes of the children and children's children. any man that believe there is an utopia somewhere will only find himself in another South Sudan. in fact our own will even be worse. I will advise each and everyone of you on this forum to find a good Job, focus on life and forget hating on other people. because humanity has a sacred bond, and as Nigerians we can never leave our Nigerianess behind even if people go their separate ways *Nigeria within/ Nigeria* hatred and tribal bigorty won't take you anywhere . Love is supreme for any form of Development. I AM disappointed IN YOU ALL.

I would say, this is my most educative thread I've ever come across on this platform. But suddenly it went sour.
Please let the discussions be issue based and not laced with tribalistic hate words and exchange of unnecessary fire works.
The truth of the matter is that, we all need each other to survive and succeed in Nigeria, with or without the oyel.

Let me counter your thread in a diplomatic way brother.

LAGOS- you will agree with me that there are lot of industries in the state which is not limited to oil alone. FCMG, Steel, Beverages, Automobile, Power Generation Company, Manufacturing, Agrobased/Agro allied industries, etc. The state has a way of diversifying if her IGR is mainly generated from oil which I don't think it's entirely based in oil.

OTHER SOUTH WEST STATES: Aside Ogun been the most industrialised state in Nigeria, she is blessed with natural resources like limestone, a commercial hub of 60 perecent building/construction material in Nigeria. Agricultural sector in the state is massive and others I can recall for now. Even though Osun has economic issue, if their resources is well utilised, their IGR will increase.
The income tax that all the companies in Lagos excluding banks pay is not up to what the oil companies pay.
A single director in chevron or total can be paying an annual tax of N30m meanwhile all the staff of KFC and TFC and Mr Biggs don't have upto that type of tax.

I quite agree with you that Lagos will not crash finally but the decline of the oil industry will impact Lagos seriously and heavily.

Lagos would cease to become a mega state and when finally a niger delta state like Akwa ibom, bayelsa or Rivers state finally builds a deep sea port, then it is a game changer for the Niger Delta, because niger delta is closer to Abuja than Lagos and niger delta is surrounded by industrializing cities like Aba, onitsha, Nnewi umuahia, Enugu.
All the Niger Delta need to do is build a six Lane highway to aba or link them with rail line for the port to boom.
Re: Now That Crude Is Gradually Becoming Worthless, What Next For Niger Delta? by wristbangle: 8:47pm On Dec 30, 2015
kayfra:
Most of what you consider manufacturing in Aba is disingenuous, it's rather assembly of pre-processed Chinese goods in Aba. There are very few processing plants anywhere in the country that transforms raw materials into finished goods. So what we have are assembly plants that rebadge and resell goods from China.

On a positive note, when we eventually fix power, that region will be ready to process raw materials more than most regions.
Thank you sir.

Most shoes/clothes and other stuffs produced in ABA are made from Chinese finished materials. If you are speaking of production/manufacturing in terms of shoe making, you will first of all turn hide/skin to leather through tanning process which they lack.

Shoe making is common everywhere just that other tribes don't hype it like the igbos.

Even innosun motors who boast of manufacturing is actually assemblage of spare parts from China.

You have a point sir but are you forgetting something that one of the success of a seaport in a country according to my secondary geography is NEARNESS TO SOURCE. Look at the coastal terrain of Nigeria, Lagos seaport possess huge deltas that can coast ship at its continental self. I am not saying same cannot be achieved for Akwa Ibom, Rivers state and co but dredging needs to take place which will cost the country so much albeit the numerous important challenges to work on.

Around 30% of the 2016 budget would be funded via taxes (almost times two of money funded by oil),and you would agree with me that a huge majority of Nigeria's taxes are paid in the southwest.
