President Muhammadu Buhari said in the ongoing presidential media chat that if bombings continue in the country, Hijab might be banned. Most of the bombings in the country are carried out by bombers clad in Hijab.

Answering questions on incessant terrorist attacks happening in the country, President Buhari said:

“When I say BokoHaram had been defeated technically, we have weakened capacity for conventional attacks. Banning Hijab is not an option, but if these attacks continues, Hijab has to be banned.”

The president’s verdict on hijab being banned has triggered twitter reactions from Nigerians.See tweets below....

If BH changes tactics and start employing the use of men wearing robes/Agbada, should that also be banned.

If that is banned and they employ the use of back-packs, do we also ban that ?

You cited France's ban on the hijab, did that save them from the Paris attack ?

As a man on ground, I see thing for what they are.

This group have sleeper cells in various cities; break their line of communication, clamps down on their sponsors and their trade route to the Sahara desert, then let the Intelligence guys infiltrate their ranks.

If we keep hammering on Hijab ban cause it aids their attacks, then it would also follow that any item or machinery that aids them too should also be banned.
this guy is really making sense. Nigerians should have seals or special forces to camp down these guys

Seriously I respect the right of people to whatever religious practice they chose to profess. But if in a bid to practice religion, the peace and life of others is put at risk then it needs to be looked into. Its no biggie banning hijab. People need to be alive first to wear the hijab.

SporaD8:
Your analogy is flawed and baseless.
A man wearing agbada will not shout haram if he is ask to be frisked for security reason, neither will a boy carrying a backpack refuse complying with instructions to drop all personal baggage outside some volatile area.
Nobody is saying hijab banning is the magic wand to stop boko haram bombing but then its a right step in the right direction - Okada banning in some states doesn't totally stop accidents but the rate of accident in those states has drastically reduced.
You talk about sleeper cell, James bond and jack Bauer stuffs!
Don't you think it more expedient to start with "dealing with substance first before graduating to chasing shadow cells later?
So when women wearing Hijab use the Airport, aren't they searched ? You're the one whose thought process is flawed.

The Hijab and Agbada/backpack can be classified as the same here; given that they both conceal things.

Anyone who refuses to subject themselves to be searched is the one calling for trouble. However, the search should be that females search female and males for males, just as is obtainable at the Airports.

Going all hard and chanting Ban isnt going to stem the tide of bombings, infact it is a psychological win for BH. It also shows that we've not been able to develop our methodology to issues particular to us (African).

Saying we should first 'deal with substance before chasing shadows' shows you're oblivious to the working of such organizations.

Taking out the heads of smaller cells would disorganize their affairs, even if they have a structure or hierachy in place, and this would slow down their operations. That is why when using a fire extinguisher, you are asked to point the nozzle to the base of the fire; anything outside that is a waste of resources and puts you at risk.

When u will be ordered to be walking unclad I hope u will b more happier then.bunch of hypocrite fellow. What u don't know is that those terrorists are so desperate and deadly that they are looking for more ways to accomplish their attacks. Banning of hijjab is not enough to curb them. We should find their root and uproot it. Because if we bann hijab now they will definitely come up with another way.

I was really impressed by his performance yesterday especially on issues relating to insecurity and corruption.

As a Muslim, I will support the ban on full hijab to improve security. At least, ban it for six months in the first instance and let's see where it takes us.

Firstly, I would like to tell you that lying against Allaah is a major sin that takes one out of Islaam. I understand we all hold different opinions, but lying on Allaah or the Qur'an while trying to butress your point is tantamount to disbelieve.
You're free to call me a liar. smiley

Having said that, where in the Qur'an was it stated that the Hijab is restricted to head and chest ?

Allaah says in Surah Al-Ahzab, Verse 59:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُل لِّأَزْوَاجِكَ وَبَنَاتِكَ وَنِسَاءِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يُدْنِينَ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِن جَلَابِيبِهِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ أَدْنَىٰ أَن يُعْرَفْنَ فَلَا يُؤْذَيْنَ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

The key word being Jalbaab.
Garment is a form of clothing, garment can be wide shirt or gown.

And say to the believing women that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts and do not display their ornaments except what appears thereof, and let them wear their head-coverings over their bosoms, and not display their ornaments (Quran 24:31)

Allah has given at least where and most important where the hijab should cover which is the head to chest, a woman can add more length to their garment(Allah also stated that).

But defining hijab has only to burqa, niqabb that one I can't find in the Quran and it is not mandatory.

I believe you saw the picture of the little girl that had explosives strapped to her abdomen and it was concealed with the blouse she wore.

Educate me, how do you propose we tackle that ? Ban the wearing blouse as well ?
That can still be easily dictated not the one they will strap under long hijab which is the most common way used for their evil act.

If you are cool with the women in your life wearing such, others aren't. No one person has the right to legislate a matter that has already been decided by the Lord from above the Seven Heavens.
I'm not condemning or against long hijab, I'm concerned about human lifes being wasted by terrorists using Islam as disguise.

Hijab will not be totally banned, the governments only want the hijab length to be reduce which I see noting bad in it.

The type of scans and security measures at airports is not something to be compare with those at market square or motor park.
Funny you talking about female -search-female. How many of your female folks are in the army?
Be it Agbada, backpack, OKAda, network coverage/mobile devices etc. A ban on any/all of these would see people readily comply without much controversies.
Its quite unfortunate that hijab ban will violate some people's religious right; but if you would rather choose the extreme path of death ahead of safety just so you could practice your religious obligations, Government on the otherhand has got an unbiased responsibility to consider the general/public interest ahead of a group or sect.

HIJAB ISSUE: PMB is well educated, he has Islamic Knowledge, but many people are ignorant of Islamic knowledge.
Islamic law must fall in between the following sources of sharia (law):

1. Quran
2. Hadith
3. Ijmai(consensus)
4. Qiyas(analogical deductions)
The issue of hijab is simple, it for the Islamic scholars to sit and consensus and analogical deductions about hijab due to the havoc it is creating by cladding in public

Please share this to advice PMB. I think he needs good adviser on security and terrorism.
Those that he called advisers are enemy of Islam...

I Totally Disagree With Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari On #Banning_Hijab!

Yesterday #PresidentialMediaChat‬! #PMB_Says, “If Boko Haram continues with suicide bombings, we might consider banning wearing Hijab.”

My Take: If you want to #Ban_hijab you must ban using of military uniforms boko-harram do use it, ban using of hilux motor boko-harram do use it, ban using of weapons they do use it, infact you must ban using of internet phones, laptop, ipad, tab, e.t.c boko-harram do use it and ban all women from going out of their premises boko-harram do use them... Ban all men too including you boko-harram do use men too... Ban all elicopters boko-harram... Please do not approve this till i find out other elements of boko-harram that they do use... Ban all foreigners in this country send them back to their countries boko-harram do use them.

We ask Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) to continues to protect and guides His #Deen and every Muslim on earth, we should be ready to defend Islam and defend Hijab where and how ever we can, when you defend a sister on Hijab you're defending an ayah of Allah not only the sister herself, but her Hijab. And your reward is with Allah. If you call in Allah in a gathering, Allah will remember you in a better gathering, imagine Allah calling your name to the Angels. Allahu Akbar.
