I have heard about this happening a lot of times and even witness one myself were parents ask their daughter's suitor how much he has in his account, when he comes for their daughter's hand in marriage.


My Question now is, Is it Rite 4 Inlaws to Ask U how Much U hav in Ur A/c b4 Giving Der Daugther Out ?

That's a very bad way to chase away a nice prospective in law.


God knows if am ever asked this kinda question, I won't answer. Would just stand up, and tell them that whenever the are ready to marry off their daughter, the should inform me(That is if wouldn't change my mind on her). Then leave with my people.

then tell me, what's their concern with the bank acc worth? a concerned inlaw would only ask what he does for a living +maybe duration he's been working. that way he could figure things out himself.

Its not proper to ask such question but if the parents are more inquisitive the highest they can do is to know his source of income. Most parents doing such do not want to give their daughter to you. Even after asking such question it doesn't ends there from that very seconds all the girl's responsibility has been shifted to you. The father will stop spending on her and the moment you couldn't meet up they quickly tag you as not qualified enough to marry their daughter.

That's not right, they intruding on the guy's financial privacy same time tryna measure his gross worth.

You know, this happened to a friend of mine in one of those unofficial visit i had to accompany him to his in-law to be's residence. After treating us to a nice dessert and in the midst of a disscusion on "jobs and employment oppurtunities in nigeria" his to be in-law stoped for a second, looked scoldly into his eye and asked: "how much do you even make per month". He shrugged, Slyly gazing at his girl furrowly. And replied her " well, just enough money to make me want to marry your daugther!"
Of course this is fictitous... I can't imagine my inlaw asking how much i make; They can always do that through their daugther. And if that actually happen to me, i just might blow up!
