Religion is bullshi.t undecided
No, it is not. The problem is that those in charge of religious practices like imams and pastors have abused it. So blame it on the people not religion per se

My spouse & i were having this same convo just before i came across this thread!!

I can tell you for a fact, despite not being in church (family road trip) that the sermon today is going to be about giving & it will remain so till end of march...

All in a bid to prime the weak hearted to part with a full month's salary in the name of "first fruit offering" ..cheesy can't form queen kong & say i haven't fallen in the past but I'm wiser now... I give my "tithes & seeds" to people in real need (without fail), only put enough in the offering bag to cover Generators & sundries...

I can't point to one charity my home church is actively contributing to, neither are there any kind of CSR we are a part of !! I also am not ready to fund anyone's opulent lifestyle neither am i interested in stadium like worship auditoriums.. cool

Been "advised" to stop going to church cos of my numerous "questions & complaints" but that won't happen cos i can't front my own , & i need to belong someplace, moreover the empiricist haven't been able to win their own argument either.... grin cheesy
It's your money; spend it as wisely as you can.

Last year, the issue of first fruits came up and I didn't support it at all....All those crap belongs in the Jewish religion but someone we've gullible allowed ourselves to be scammed in the name of religion. I give to the needy not the greedy........
My dear, we won't stop questioning these issues.
I'm done with mindless religion.

No, you must be able to defend the concept 1st before talking about the practices. You must be able to defend why being a lawyer is a good thing before talking about how to be a lawyer. And that is the problem with religion most ptactitioners cant defend it without resirting to scriptures. it's a classic case of brainwashing.

So true, many people are blinded by religion.

Imagine a pastor said I should give a month salary to God,without removing a dime.

I asked myself, how will I survive for one month without money.

I stopped the church.

Will the pastor feed me for one month?
You Sir, do not have faith at all. grin Faith would have fed you for that one month. tongue

Any system that forbids the utilisation of your mind should be abandoned immediately.
Re: Religion Has Killed Rational Thinking Of This Country - Prof. Osundare by menxer: 2:03pm On Jan 03, 2016
I concur with the Prof. Niyi

The bible says "the blessings of God maketh rich and added no sorrow" but in Nigeria that scripture seems not to be true because of our collective ineptitude in rational and critical thinking.

God (in Isaiah) even called us to sovereign conference to "reason together", how many Nigerians turn up?

We as a people detest questions, especially, that touches our belief system
Re: Religion Has Killed Rational Thinking Of This Country - Prof. Osundare by Nobody: 2:03pm On Jan 03, 2016
You can speak as much as you want against religion so long you don't deny the righteousness that comes with believing in Christ's atoning work on the cross.

Christianity is not religion but faith in Christ.

Just listen to yourself, you need data, you need proff to believe what he has just said, well you are the most vulnerable in the aforementioned issue, what the prof said is the XYZ of problems facing all the over religious countries the world over,
Christianity is not a religion, but a way of life, living the way Christ lived.

Religious life is a scam.while Christian life is an atitude.......in Antioch they were called Christians, because of the impeccable life of Christ they lived......pls get me corrected if there is any!!!!!
I have more than 10years training as a scientist, it doesn't change my position about God. The root of this article is atheism and this is evident in his submission about miracles. That said, anyone can make a claim but to be regarded as a statement of fact, you have to give empirical backing, where this is not, the opinion is subjective at best.

That religion has a eroded the logical reasoning of Nigerians is a serious claim, irrespective of our personal opinions(which cant be same), you have to give verifiable empirical facts to support that assertion.

The prof have some element of truth in what he said. Religion only permits what services it. Christians are too lazy to seek God on their own privately and discover his ways, they run after signs and wonders and Keep getting bamboozled in the process by fake prophets and pastors. Apostle Paul warned against this in one his epistles to the early churches, and if go and study them today, you will think that Paul just wrote the letter to our modern churches recently. I can't allow someone tell me about God to the point that am just a spectator of the whole debacle, I want to also tell people about God too in spirit and in truth and that's why my bible is alive to guide me when it comes to the deep things of God through the help of the holy spirit.
Know God for yourself and have a personal relationship with him, that's the hallmark of a true Christian.

Nobody hears or see any God. Anybody who claims to do such, is showing an early sign of serious bipolar psychosis disorder known as schizophrenia and can lead to a full blown mania if not treated in time.

It a situation where you hear voices that that are not really there and you feel it's from God. It is accompanied with the delution of having the ability to do impossible things like casting out demons and healing the sick. Majority of those who sufferes from the disorder see themselves as god. It is cause by stress aggravated from activities like praying for long hours and not feeding well.

Over 3% of the total population in the US are suffering from it and believe me millions of nigerians are also suffering from it without knowing because they fill themselves with the thoughts that the voices is coming from God.

If you see anyone claiming he can hear God's voice, please save a human life by advising him to see a psychiatrist so that it doesn't turn worse.
And who told you psychiatrists too don't hear His voice?

Lol. . .It is always beneficial to read and apply knowledge. There is no point in educating oneself if one will still be following the norm. Back in the day, the church burned anyone at the stake for even suggesting that the earth was round. Same with curing most diseases. It was termed witchcraft. Later, it was said that it was impossible to visit the stars. People are now living in space stations, up there and are now taking applications from people who would want to be the first to go to mars and live there forever. It is a one way trip. This galaxy is huge bro's. As history has told us countless times, nothing is impossible where science is involved. It is only in Nigeria that it is impossible because we are still living in the pre caveman era.

I keep saying the same thing religion is one problem that is affecting our country ... The rate at which pastors are exploiting its members one day in the nearest future nigeria will turn to europe where they dont believe in God, what's happening today in nigeria once happened in europe where the clergies were the richest and most influential, but today what happened, their love for riches made the people become wise, if our religious leaders dont caution their love for money one day africa will become europe and God will hold all our clergymen responsible
You are making sensible points but you are making the points sound like it's a bad thing that will happen whereas it's a good thing when the PEOPLE FINALLY BECOME WISE !

The fullness of God dosent't come by giving tithe to God or through some religious doctrines and laws, the fullness of God comes from knowing who God is and allowing Christ to dwell in your heart by faith, rooted in and grounded in love. Your tithe without knowing who God is by revelation which the holy spirit gives profiteth you absolutely nothing.

I beleive I did, i said no. In anything one does one must know why he does it and you dont have to prove yourself to another man especially on the issue of faith, it's a personal thing. I like the reasons you gave....because it works for you. If it boosts the quality of your life then that's a valid reason. What I was saying id that a lot of people dont even know why they do what they do and when you question their religion they resort to quoting scripture
