So sad it was demolished with their goods.
Re: Photos: Shops In Oshodi Under Demolition by Nobody: 11:52am On Jan 06, 2016
I will demolish every ''demolishable'' as long as the appropriate procedure has been followed.

This is the only language Nigerians understand.

Infact, I will bring down everything.

They can quote religion, ethnicity, poverty, the Devil they will appeal to pity, develop fallacies

and cite every possible excuse under the sun for doing illegal things.

I am proudly Nigerian. smiley

I think it's a welcome development, Nigeria cannot develop with all these illegal structures.
It is not illegal structure. The shops were constructed by government many years ago and sold to the present owners.
This new government gave them two weeks notice to quit middle of last year December which expires 31/12/15 and the shop owners refused on the ground that the notice is short. I was told the union leaders were arrested.
I advised my client to remove his goods because this government is not used to obeying court order or follow due process and will demolish the shop at midnight or you will just notice strange fire but he said the shops are concretes roof.
The government or contractor wants to build new shopping complex. Came on the 31st December to demolish it, were resisted, they went back, came again, were resisted before they finally surrounded the place with soldiers, police, KAI, lastma and the eventual demolition.

Why is the bolded the death of you senseless tribalists huh! You guys don't have chill at all.
They demolished shops, simple! Don't tell us the shops belongs to Fulani or Yoruba or Igbo, who asked you? Or is Oshodi part of Biafra again, if shops are demolished and you act like we should be bothered about the ones owned by Igbos alone....ewu!

So, I offended you when I mentioned the majority of shop owners there?

So that makes me Igbo and Biafra?

When are we going to rise above ethnic bigotry?

If this is the case, then it's sad.
But Lagos traders should know by now that the government do these things in the middle of the night, and should have taken measures to remove their goods.
Though the fact remains that, Nigerians don't like to obey rules that will make their immediate environment liveable even though they envy other Metro cities like New York and Paris.

I don't have problem with urban renewal but why not allow them retrieve their goods? What is the economic or social gain in wasting their goods? That place has been that way for decades so it's not as if they are illegal occupants.

Itsekiriman101:
It's called urban renewal. The Lagos state Goverment must make provision for those displaced though. Whatever will be built there should be affordable to those that have just been displaced.

My exceptions to your suggestions are these;

1. Was that place earmarked for shops or the people just laid their wares and goods because it's a disused land?
2. Should government continue to be responsible for people that flagrantly disobeyed the law and resorts sentimental claims of having children to feed
3. Have you considered the illegal businesses and sharp practices going on in that area?
4. In urban renewal, government will pick the cost of legitimate business affected.

Dude quit being an axx. All the nonsense you wrote up here is uncalled for.

The lady stated the obvious, we all know majority of the traders in that area are Ibo. I wonder why that caused you to be miffed. Or is there more to this?

Moreover, that is a lady, show some respect!

I feel sorry for the shop owners but I still feel those structures won't help Nigeria to delelop, a price must be paid to build a country we all can be proud of in the future.
