Saturday’s governorship supplementary election in Bayelsa State recorded impressive turnout of voters in most units in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

As early as 7.45am, voters had queued in polling units in some of the wards, waiting for accreditation and voting to begin at 8am as directed by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The supplementary election held in Southern Ijaw and in 101 polling units in other parts of the state.

Thus was born a great rivalry between the Ijaw-speaking and Igbo-speaking groups for the control of Rivers and between what was termed the “Ijaw” and “Ikwerre” over the “ownership” of Port Harcourt.
