Which one of those wars is relevant to COIN war against AQIM, Ansar deen, Boko Haram, El Shabab, etc ?

CAR Bangui was a 15 hour battle, you cmpare that with 5 years of fighting El Shabab ?

You Southie guys are willing to mislead Africa for your personal egoistic gains.

We are talking about helping Africa here, Somalia, Mali, Libya, Africa needs help not your egoistic comments that mislead the average man on the street.
I don't know what your delusional definition of COIN warfare is, but our operations in the DRC and CAR recently , was none other than COIN operations regardless of there time span.

M23 at one point was the most powerful rebel/insurgent group in Africa, even more powerful than BH.

They had access to multiple weapon platforms including a number of T55 Tanks and reportedly T72s as well.

Since the inception of the UNs FIB it took them a matter of months to destroy M23 strongholds and ultimately led to the surrender of the M23.

The Battle of Bangui is another example of the SANDFs superior COIN skills, even without air support, 200 Paratroopers/SFs were able to hold out against 3000+ heavily armed Seleka rebels untill Seleka surrendered.

As I said before, you are the most deraling person on this thread!

Why did SANDF go to Brazil for jungle warfare training and NA went to Belarus for COIN training? It's one thing to have men who can train others, but it's another thing to have training facilities and advanced electro-mech training simulators and hardware that suit modern COIN warfare. Belarus SF regiment has it's roots in the Soviet Union SF and they have war experience from many years of COIN combat with Mujahedeen in Afghanistan. Only Algeria and Nigeria has that level of modern COIN experience in Africa today, but do they have advanced training equipment with hi-tech capabilities? SF training is more than the bush and field jumping running hiding that you see. There is a hi-tech component behind closed doors in specially built facilities.

How well did Kenyan SF do when El-Shabab held hostages in Nairobi shopping mall? Ethiopian forces got hard hit in Somalia and didnt find it easy. The incident ended in disaster. African training still has a long way to go.

Sending our Troops to Brazil was just to build a bond between nations and it could have been an matter of pride, there are plenty of countries on the Continent that have jungles and I'm willing to bet my life on the fact that at least one of those countries could have taught us what we leant in Brazil. N.A sent you're troops outside because it was a personal Choice, our SAPS STF also specialise in Coin, Belarus hasn't been involve in any serious insurgency issues so you can't pull the whole thing of STF not having being involved in such things.

The one thing we can all agree on is that most African countries have too much pride to ask each other for help, why didn't Nigeria go to Algeria they fought a war that is very similar to what Nigeria is going through and with them it was on a much larger scale.

Kenya could have easily come to S.A to learn about Hostage rescue, Out Tactical Response Teams and STF deal with crazy and well trained Criminals on a daily basis, some of those criminals are former police officers, SANDF or MK members, the fact that our STF has not lost a hostage situation is more than enough proof to show that Africans can take care of themselves.

if you are that so good then why dont you rescue that south african held hostage by AQIM ! stop telling us how good you are and show us.this is not the 70's and 80's when terrorist wanted their demands met before they released their hostages, you need know that and know what an active shooter scenario is before gloating with pride with how exceptional you are .what did you do when two south african were kidnapped by somalia pirates, who at the end got paid their ransom money! http://sosbrunodebbie.co.za/

COIN is COIN and we have exemplified our powress in COIN warfare - from Angola to DRC as well as private operators in East Africa who thrashed RUF and Angola who in months did what the Luanda goverment could not do in 30 tears

Afterall, even Nigeria hired South Africans to train a unit to fight in our style... while the DRC has chosen us to be the main trainers of her men.

The fighting against BH and Al-ChickenKebab falls more into 4g warfare than COIN in any case, which means they are easyer to fight than typical Insurgents

Because of our constitition we cannot deploy active duty soldiers outside of our border with "aggresive intent" unless:

1.Under the auspices of the UN
2. The President declares a state of emergency and then unilaterally declares war
3. The President approaches Parliament for a decleration of war

We are not america, our Const commits us to a non-violent foriegn policy and strictly limits what we can and cannot do in foreign lands.

With regards to our own capabilities - i think the STF record speaks for itself

Good to see your Ferrets and Eland 90s are still in service

They must be very usefull in somalia - simple, rugged, about as mobile as a technical, better armored than one, and more firepower.... and a lower battlefeild signature than an MRAP

I was sad to see that the SANDF retired ours - it definitly left a hole in the light recon role that the Rooikat is too heavy to full
