Finishing med school in a few months,i have started thinking that the clinical route may not be the best for me.I am truly confused.
What is the best option for me to take,i have zero skills except reading text books.Where and how do i start developing the skills?Let's say i have an interest in working with an NGO or something in health management,Do i have to study something new?Am i doomed to giving injection?
What do i do?Married so movement is limited.

Right now the best place to go is UK through plab as they need a lot of doctors, US if you dont have work permit visa or residency its very hard getting into a residency system because no one will want to sponsor since competition is fierce. It is even worse in Canada even with your PR, canada is the most difficult country to get in an practise as a doctor so guys migrating there bear in mind so you dont go there and end up been lab scientist, cab drivers or street sweepers as some of my friends.
Right now UK is very much open and they need doctors all you have to do is pass the IELTS AND PLAB exams and if after passing them and you get your GMC licence and cant get a job just send me a message and email and i can assure you of one.
Now the exams are becoming tougher and more expensive and the gates wont be open forever and UK is very unstable with policies so the earlier you jump on the boat the better. Some guys on Locum earn as much as 10k pounds monthly which is quite incredible and also compared to the quality of life.

The chap is right sha. Everything he says is true. U.K doors will not be open forever. Jump ship NOW if u can. They need doctors NOW. U.K laws can change anytime.

Im a post internship doctor from UNN.
Pls have a few questions for @rugged7 & naijadoc & other forumites enlightened about UK practice & PLAB. The 12k pounds monthly income what about the taxing? Wont everything a greater percentage of that money be slashed off as tax? Also what are the various ranges of payment of doctors & what could alter the salary.
Also how much good is the job security... What are the possibility of retrenchment of foreign staff without any due compensation.
Also how easy & how long does it take to get residence & work permit respectively & also migrating say ones spouse there too.
Please i need a good explanation & the real bitter truth about all these as im about taking a major life changing decision.
Your kind honest reply will be sincerely appreciated & honored.

To the best of my knowledge the ones in the UK are not for Consultants. I understand why you think it's for Consultants given that they specified the specialties they're recruting into. But i'm sure that they're looking for service-grade junior and middle grade Doctors. There's a shortage at that level here at the moment (the Nigerian equivalent of Medical Officers). The jobs should be open to whoever can tick the boxes in the application forms! I know that it will be difficult for somebody in Naija to meet the deadline for submission and interview, but you never know.

The ones in Australia and New Zealand are open to every level and are ongoing.

Can I take step 2 CK in Nigeria?

While waiting for and acquainting with the US clinicals in prep for step2 CS, can one get a medical job(locum or likes) or how can one survive?

I was also told that to get a locum job or similar non-training(while waiting for residence) jobs in the UK is hard. How true is this?

Racial differences play a role and there's no reward for excellence in the UK. How true?. I learnt the consultants under whom one works for in non-training jobs refuse their employees letters of recommendations? Some do but use derogatory remarks thus limiting ones chances?

I really have a truck load of questions as I prepare to make a decision.

While I am well aware that this is a forum for Medical doctors, yet I won't hesitate to ask few questions bothering me because I believe this is the best place to receive the right answers.

I am a Biochemistry graduate, done serving and I have been contemplating on returning to the University for an MBBS degree.

I said, contemplating because I am 25 years presently which means, all things being equal, I would finish medical school at age 30 going through the Direct Entry route. (I have already been admitted for the 2015/2016 session in one of the Southwestern Universities to resume early next year.)

That's why I am turning to this platform for enlightenment as per if there is 'age' discrimination when it comes to Internship and Residency in the country.

So, I need advice and probably experience of good people of this platform. And pardon my ignorance, if my question sound amateurish.

Thank you in anticipation of the responses I would receive to this.

Doctors in the house, I am a graduate of human anatomy, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, I am well grounded in human structure and function, radiography anatomy and theoretical aspect of ultrasound scan, but can't operate an ultrasound machine.
I would appreciate it if I can get an hospital to learn ultrasonography. I am a fast learner and have being preparing myself for the task by studying different books on obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound.
Wouldn't mind working for the hospital free for few months.

Am planning on taking the plab 2 late may/early June 2016...and offcourse will have to attend either swammy or samson course,am still in Nigeria and that's why I want to get things in motion before leaving for the uk,don't want to have to come all the way back for some document or for something which I should have settled whilst still here.
Like you explained....so i will take this documents to MDCN and also pay for the letter of good standing and postage then ask them to send it to the GMC when needed?
Or will I have to still come back for this?
I would have preferred giving the exams,securing a job,having all documentations done,before coming back to nigeria for the work permit visa.
And also is it advisable to tell the UK visa office about attending the prep course?...or doesn't add any benefit to securing a visa.....I have heard of some Ppl been denied UK plab visa on some ridiculous grounds.
