and you think Nigeria can't hit back, no nation is an island to itself even the great America needs Nigeria

You can ask Iran what happened to them between 2013 and now, Right now
crude oil exporting nations need buyers not the other way round and sheer
rhetorics of "we are strong" doesn't serve any purpose.

Even chinese economy is also shrinking meaning less import of crude oil.

Result is more important than ego.

south africa is more viable than nigeria now esp that oil is now worthless. the best thing to do is reestablish that link that is missing btw both nations.

The south african economy has also suffered. Bilateral trade is not synonymous with a gift. Our oil is being sold, they are no dashing us money. If they feel iran suits them better then goodluck with that. But iran is not and will never be a member of opec. We shall see how far they can go with iran

Day of reckoning.

When God smiled on nigeria with abundant money from oil, but nigerian "leaders" were too out of sense to know what to do with the money.

what has Opec done differently. It should not be about OPEC and non OPEC now. It should be about every oil producing country. OPEC should change its name to OPPC. Organisation of petroleum producing countries so as to protect everyone's interest. We won't have this fight of. Market share. Everyone would have his share which regulates demand and supply.

Everybody is just saying agriculture as if you can enter farm if you are asked to. no matter how FG empower farmers they can never generate revenue for the budget of this large country.

After all Hausa farming never added any thing to FG revenue only based on subsistence farming but FG support them every year with huge amount and mechanization

It's not ONLY about adding revenue to Nigerian Govt, however, it's a source of FOREX for Nigeria. Take for instance, if Nigeria is sufficient in crop (rice farming), majority won't have the need to eat imported rice (assuming the local rice is cleaned and packaged properly). Neighboring countries like Niger, Chad, Benin, Cameroon, etc won't have to import rice whereas trailers can deliver same day. As for Hausa farming, yet it has added to Nigerian revenue (customs export taxes/duty) just that it isn't substantial. Mechanization is what's required and that has been the focus of GEJ's administration.

So what? If we stop patronizing MTN, DSTV and Stanbic IBTC...they will start counting their loses. We can buy our oil no wahala. We have over 40 different solid minerals in commercial quantities and unquantifiable hectares of land for agricultural production. We are the best....Nigeria we trust...our fatherland.

South Africa had always bought oil from Iran. Iran's sanctions made SA to turn to Nigeria as a stop-gap measure. We always knew it would be back to status quo ante once Iran's sanctions were lifted.

Too many kids on NL, as much as I want MTN to pay their fine (although reduced fine), this has absolutely NOTHING to do with MTN. If Nigerians like, they can pursue MTN, Shoprite and other businesses out of Nigeria, it is Nigeria's image that will be battered, NOT SA. More unemployed people added back into the workforce, reduced source of revenue for both state and federal govt unless there's a major competitor willing to absorb the difference. Rather than waging an economic sabotage against SA (knowing fully well Nigeria would not win), it only makes sense that Nigeria buckles up within and fix her problem before embarking on trade war.

Good thinking!

The South Africans might be thinking only of deals that are most expedient for them; we can't conclude, albeit hastily, that S.A is trying to victimise Nigeria. It's already on record that they had bilateral relations and trade agreements prior to engaging Nigeria.

Anyway, MTN must pay dat fine!

South Africa and their stupid rivalry complex. We Nigerians don't care. We have better things to do. Makes no sense to stop buying Nigerian oil and replace it with Iran oil that will cost more to ship to them. Oil price will reach a bottom. How much does it cost to produce one barrel of oil?
Oil fields will start to shut down. Shale oil will go bankrupt. Saudi Arabia will lose of revenue.

Re: South Africa To Stop Buying Crude Oil From Nigeria, Opens Talks With Iran by ttmacoy: 4:53pm On Jan 19, 2016
And what do you consider rock bottom prices because there was an article in punch where it said many Nigerian oil fields have a cost of production already lower than or rapidly approaching the current price of oil per barrel which means some are already extracting oil at a loss at current prices.

Please explain the rationale behind securing a loan to build pipelines to sell our oil even cheaper as I assume that's what you mean by rock bottom prices.

Why would China give such a loan as you must know such loans are based on what China gets out of the deal. It's not because they are nice.
