President Muhammadu Buhari will be part of history making as Ogun Sate will be celebrating 40 years of creation.

The event, agged Operation 40-40′, is to mark legacy projects in the state.

Addressing a world press conference Friday at the Press Centre, Oke Mosan, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa disclosed that the celebration is not for birthday for the state, but to harvest some completed projects across the three Senatorial Districts of the state.

Adeoluwa said, “our desire to celebrate the creation of the state is not for birthday. We want to speak less on the birthday, forty is a milestone, but for us in Ogun state, the issue goes beyond 40 years.

“We have a huge harvest of completed projects which have been completed for over a year, but we don’t like show off, but to do our thing the way we should be.

“But some elders called our attention to the state creation date which is February 3rd and said we should make it a huge celebration. We have over 100 projects across the state and about 60 have been fully completed. We have selected 40 legacy projects to be commissioned by the President to commemorate the anniversary.

“Buhari has most kindly agreed to visit and commission some of the projects. He will be in the state between Monday, 1 & Tuesday 2 February, 2016 to commission some of the projects. Though we are working to see if he can commission all, they are scattered all over the state. All other projects will be commissioned by our past Governors and administrators,” Adeoluwa said.

According to him, Ogun Central leads the pack with between 14-16 projects followed by Ogun East with 12-14 projects and Ogun West with 12 projects.

Projects to be commissioned in Ogun Central includes Alagbaagba Cocoa Plantation, Odeda; Owowo Farm Settlement; Tomato Plantation, Kotopo; Model School, Kobape, Onijaganjagan and Ewekoro.

Others are: A.A.K. Degun Workers Estate, Laderin,Abeokuta; Three Hills Estate, Kobape; Itoku Flyover, Salon Flyover, Iyana Mortuary Flyover, Ojere-Adatan road, OGTV-Ajebo road, Omida road and Isale Igbein road.

In Ogun East, projects to be commissioned include Model School, Sagamu; New Makun City, formerly Estate of Paradise City. The project was on a 50 hectares and was abandoned by the last administration, but was expanded to 750 hectares.

Other projects are: Oba Akarigbo bridge, Sabo Flyover, both in Sagamu. Model school, Ikenne, now HID Awolowo Model school; Model school, Ago Iwoye; Mobalufon bridge, Ijebu Ode; Lagos garage flyover, Ijebu Ode; Emuren Chicks Farms, which produces about 2,000 chicks daily; and Ijebu Ode township road.

In Ogun West, the longest road constructed by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun administration would be commissioned. The road cuts across four LGAs out of five in the district and it is 110km long. It begins from Ilara and runs through Ijoun, Tombolo, and Oja Odan.

Other projects are: Ilo-Awela road, Model School,Ado Odo; Sango-Ijoko road; OPIC New Dawn Estate, Agbara; Oil Plantation, Ipokia (50 hectares); Cashew Plantation and Rice Plantation,Egua.

As parts of the activities, all past Governors in the state will join the Special Executive Council meeting. All Ex-SSGs and all ex- HoS will also be in attendance.

A similar special session will be held at the Ogun State House of Assembly with all past Speakers in attendance.

Other activities are lined up for the day include novelty football match, quiz competition among public secondary schools, celebration of indigenous icons, Ogun Got Talent and a drama presentation titled “Ojo Ola” will be performed by Ogun Indigene Entertainment.

Many of these project are not public in nature, but business, hence, they may not be sustainable especially after the present admin tenure. Government could have patnered with relevant local and foreign investor by creating enabling enviroment.
Govt. Should hands of business project and concentrate on public project that can create enabling enviroment for business to thrive.
Also, I could see housing project up to 750 hec. I hope this has relevant target population from advancing industrial land use spilling over from lagos. More so I cant hear of any indutsrial estate project and Ogun State lagos surburb project in the list. Governance is not rocket science, its all about willingness to take rational descision base on reality on ground

MDG's report

GOAL 5: IMPROVED MATERNAL HEALTH

Target 5.A. Reduce by three quarters, between 1990 and 2015, the Maternal Mortality Ratio.

The 2004 Maternal Mortality ratio of 800 in every 100,000 live births crashed to 545 in 2008. The performance tracking survey of 2012 recorded a further decrease to 350 per 100,000 live births and the downward trend consistently maintained its course to 2014 with a record of 243 per 100,000 live births. As a remark, the 2014 estimation was strictly based on women within the age bracket of 15 to 49 years, as opposed to the 2012 age bracket of 15 to infinity. The rationale behind this is that the child bearing age for women is within that bracket. Based on this, Nigeria is at the verge of meeting the target on maternal mortality.

Indicator 5.2: Proportion of Births attended by skilled health care attendants.

A zonal disaggregation of this trend shows that of the children born within the period of reference, South East (89.1%) had the highest record of delivery assisted by skilled birth attendant. Eighty three percent was recorded in South West. North Central and South South zones respectively had a record of 67.2% and 64.4%. The least were in North East (30.8%) and North West (24.8%). Sectorally, the urban areas with 79.2 had higher proportion of deliveries assisted by trained personnel’s while the rural areas had 46.6%.

Target 5B: Achieve universal access to reproductive health by 2015

Indictor 5.3: Contraceptive Prevalence Rates:

This is the percentage of women aged 15 – 49 years that use any method of family planning. The use of contraceptive is gradually gaining general acceptance. In 2004, only 8.2% of women within the stated age bracket used contraceptive measures for family planning. The percentage increased to 14.6% (about 78% increases) in 2008. It appreciated further in both 2012 (17.3%) and 2014 (18.5%). Contraceptive prevalence was highest in South East zone with a of 43%, followed by South West (24.0%). The prevalence in the urban areas (16.7%) was higher than that of the rural (9.7%).

Indicator 5.5: Antenatal Care Coverage.

In 2008, only 8.2% of the pregnant women attended antenatal for one visit while 44.8% attended for at least 4 visits. In 2012 66.3% of them attended for at least one visit and 57.8% for at least four visits. The record in 2014 was that about 25% of the women that were pregnant never attended antenatal visits. At the same time, 68.9% attended at least once while 60.6% attended for four times and over. The number of visits for antenatal was encouraging in the urban where 75.9% of pregnant women had at least four visits. The rural rears were no exception as 51.6% of the pregnant women visited over four times. With regard to the zones, South East (88.3%) had the highest number of visits. South West (78%), South South (64.1) and North Central (65.80) had encouraging number of antenatal visits. But very few pregnant women in North West (38.1%) and North East (32.9%) attended antenatal up to four times.

Indicator 5.6: Unmet Needs for Family Planning

In 2004, there were about 17% of women in this category. They increased to 20.2% in 2008 and 21.5% in 2012. However, there was a marginal increase in 2014 (22.2%). The prevalence of unmet need was more in the rural sector (22.4%) than the urban (21.8%). Across the zones, there were higher incidences of unmet need in North West (27.4) and North East (25.8%) than the rest of the zones. The experience was very low in the South East (11.4%).

GOAL 6: COMBAT HID/AIDS, MALARIA AND OTHER MAJOR DISEASES

Target 6.C: Have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases

Indicator 6.3: Percentage of Young Women aged 15 – 24 years with comprehensive knowledge of HIV/AIDs

Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and related diseases among the young women is increasing. There is a general consciousness that HIV/AIDS is real. In 2004, only 18.3% of the young ladies within age 15 – 24 years had comprehensive and correct knowledge about HIV/AIDS prevention, and transmission and others. There was a rise in this percentage in 2012 (33%). There was not much difference in the record for 2014 (32.8%). Thus the trend remained at the national level. But in the sectors, the urban areas with 37.8% showed that there were more young women with comprehensive knowledge than the 30.5% in the rural. At the level of the zones, a large percentage of the young ladies in North Central had comprehensive knowledge. Besides the North Central zone were the South East (37.3%), South West (34.3%) and South South zone (33.2%). Both the North West (26.5%) and particularly North East (23.2%) had little proportion of young ladies with comprehensive knowledge about HIV/AIDs.

GOAL 1: TO ERADICATE EXTREME POVERTY AND HUNGER

Target 1c: Halve between 1990 and 2015, the proportion of people who suffer from hunger.

Indicator 1.8: Prevalence underweight children under five year of age.

In the year 2008, the proportion of underweight children going by the national average was 23.1%. It went up to 27.4% in 2012 but declined to 25.5% in 2014. For lack of data, concrete trend cannot be established with this report. Although Nigeria has attained the hunger target according to other reports, yet more interventions are needed not only for the under-five children but for their mothers in order to alleviate them completely from the scourge of hunger.

GOAL 2: ACHIEVE UNIVERSAL PRIMARY EDUCATION

Target 2A: Ensure that, by 2015, children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling.

Indicator 2.1: Net enrolment in primary education.

In 2014, The states with very high attendance ratios included Anambra (94%), Delta (92.80), Imo (90.7), Lagos (92), Ondo (92.4), Osun (91.6), Edo (91.0), Ekiti (93.6) and FTC (94.1) while the least were Bauchi (29.9), Sokoto (24.80), Yobe (23.7), Zamfara (37.80).

At the national level, the net attendance ratio was 61% in 2008 and it increased to 71% in 2012. In 2014, there was a shortfall of 2.3% and the net attendance for 2014 thus dropped to 68.7%. When classified by sectors, net attendance in the urban (84.3%) was much higher than in the rural areas (62.2%). Across the geopolitical zones, it was very encouraging in the South East (90.5%), South South (88.1%), South West (87%) and North Central (80.2%). But in the North West (50.5%) and particularly North East (42.5%) net attendance was not impressive.
Although 100% attendance is expected, the result shows that Nigeria is on track.

Indicator 2.2: Primay Six Completion Rate

Nationally completion rate according to fig. 2.2 in 2004 was 82%. It increased to 87.7% in 2012 and dropped to 74.0 in 2014. Within the 2014, the completion rate was higher in the urban (84.4%) when compared with the rural (69.7). In the zones, completion rate was highest in South East (98.7%) zone, followed by South West (94.1%). Primary six completion rate was poorest in the North East (49.5%) zone. Nigeria is also on track.

Indicator 2.3: Literacy rate of 15 – 24 years, women

The literacy rate of youth women between 2004 and 2014 at the national level increased from 60.4% in 2004 to 80% in 2008. In 2012, it declined to 66%. Although it slightly appreciated in 2014 (66.7%), but that is insignificant. At the state level, literacy of youth women aged 15 – 24 was very encouraging in states like Rivers (98%), Enugu (97%), Imo (95%), Akwa Ibom (95%), Delta (94.1%), Anambra (93%), Ekiti (92.7%), Abia (91.3%). Conversely, literacy rate among woman of age 15 – 24 was poor in Sokoto (10.7%), Bauchi (13%), Yobe (16%) etc.

Sectorally, the survey showed that there were more literate youth women (85.3%) in the urban as against the 57.8% recorded in the rural areas. In the zones the literate youth women in the South East (93.5%) were much higher than the rest of the zones. North East (33.0%) and North West (35%) had the lowest percentage of literate youth women in 2014.

State Sustainability Index

BudgIT published the final info known as "State Sustainability Indexed". This is the rating of the states by their financial sustainability. It factors in the state's IGR, as well as its total debt stocks, AND recurrent expenditure before arriving at its final figures.
This is the standard formula used in calculating state sustainability index:

Using the formula above with IGR's and debt stocks previously posted, below is the ranking of the states by their sustainability indices:

Counting from the bottom, on the other hand, Plateau, Osun, Nasarawa, Borno and Ekiti are ranked as Nigeria's least sustainable states, with their low IGRs and inexplicably high debts.

On a personal region-by-region ranking (gotten by adding all the indices for every state in each region and dividing by the number of states in said region), the South-South is by far Nigeria's most sustainable region with a cumulative average sustainability index of 8.27

Coming a very distant second is the South-East with an index of 6.43

In third place is the North-West with an index of approximately 5.45

Number 4 is the South-West with 5.43

Coming fifth place with an index of 4.39, is the North-Central

And scraping the bottom of the barrel at last place, is the insurgency-torn North-East with an index of 3.97

Such projects in ogun?

Can someone from ogun testify to this

Believe this at your own peril.I work and live in ijebu ode, while my work makes me travel to major cities in the state. Most of the projects mentioned started over 3years ago and have been abandoned for more than 2 years. Work only started again on them about 3 weeks ago obviously because of the 40th anniversary of the state creation. U can be sure this is window dressing and the projects will only be rushed to meet the deadline without regard for quality job.

Nope. Actually Ogun is 4.8-times (or let's just round if off and say 5-times) the size of Lagos (Ogun covers 6472 mi sq. area while Lagos covers 1342 mi sq.).
despite that lagos claimed many parts of ogun state.

as commendable and laudable as the commissioning of projects especially roads are, I am taking exception to commissioning of projects with less than 40% completion. I am surprised they listed sango - ijoko road for commissioning when it is actually a part of a stretch going from sango to agbado to ope Ilu and terminating somewhere further (sorry for not giving full fact but I av d data somewhere). why is d government commissioning sango to ijoko. what abt Ijoko to agbado and beyond. this stretch had been cleared, houses demolished, and then abandoned. even the fly over at agbado junction is an accident waiting to happen, cos beams have been floated without being from XED in place. any major vibration could drop this beams on people passing underneath. nose covers are being sold like pure water due to the volume of dust at this dry period. you can't imagine how muddy it gets in d rainy period. the road is a good development and upgrade on the old one. but many would prefer the old at dis moment. the health risk from d dust and Mon availability of drainages is appalling. d govt should intensify effort on making the road motorable and not to commission a portion of it. for those who may think I'm making it up pls ask anyone who leaves in this areas from AGBado to ijoko and adiyan axis. my parents live here so I knw what I'm saying. would try and get pix and post later.

Hard to understand the yardstick for siting projects by The Amosun administration. Agbara the industrial center of Ogun state has been left to rot away without link roads between the industrial estate and the residential areas. The two main road connecting the sprawling estates from Lagos via the Badagry express way are in a very sorry state.
To worsen the matter Amosun fraudulently erected a signpost by the Badagry lagos expressway early last year before 2015 election announcing the construction of a world class road from the express across Agbara estate to Aton just to hoodwink the people and secure their votes.
Government presence in Agbara estate since Amosun took over has been zero. Amosun only known presence is coming in the night to hold political meetings and share money to his party men during the last elections.
Where is the change in all this ?
Too bad.

How won't you guys have the supposed best indices.. more than half of my unbooked patients in this Lagos are ibo...

They come here to Southwest and come and spoil our health indices.. they have poor health seeking behaviour. They are so health illiterate, they visit chemist and quacks and only visit the hospital when water don pass gari.

MDG's report

[s]GOAL 5: IMPROVED MATERNAL HEALTH
