Yeah. It's a mechanical engineering graduate class. I feel so lost in class. No lecture note to start with! And the textbooks are creeping expensive like 50K naira for one book. UK has standard library for bookstore not here!

Am so angry
Most science classes require textbooks that cost about $200-$300 per textbook including access code.
When I took my first physics class I remember buying my textbook about $300 from amazon.
if your class require an access code inorder to submit your homework and quizzes you can buy an access code online and with your access code you will have access to an e- textbook free of charge which you can print. However if you prefer a hardcopy of your textbook what you can do is to rent used textbooks from sites like amazon.com, chegg.com, barnesandnoble.com, bookrenter.com & campusbookrentals.com. You will need the ISBN number of the textbook you which to rent.

U know I always love your contribution here. I don't feel this my school at all (uni of Missouri). The weather is extremely cold or hot. Am planning on transfer to Houston uni this fall. Do you think it's a good idea?

Have you been to the two places before. There seems to be lot of student jobs here anyway.

I studied in NM and I've only been to Houston, TX but not Missouri. It depends on you. Houston is not cold like missouri (where ever your school is located there) but it's very hot in the summer. By student jobs, do you mean in missouri? Houston is a big city with diversity and there are opportunities there even after studies. If I was to pick, I would go for opportunity of getting a good job after graduation.

Health Insurance here is very expensive, last year I took my school's plan and was charged $1,700 for a year, but this year I got the alternative insurance form and used it,which cost me $600...

Hi bro, can u please share more info on this alternate insurance provider? My current health insurance covers very little and costs about $1600. Would be grateful if I can minimize that cost and still get a plan with comprehensive coverage.

if the current health insurance plan is from ur school,u've got to talk to the person in charge at the international office, that u want to get an alternative provider as such will need the documents for waiver....then we can tk it from there..

From my little experience, applying for spring or summer might be a waste. You don't want to apply to a school where they have 1 slot for spring and you wouldn't even know cos the schools will claim they offer admission three times a yr which might be technically wrong. It's good to ask questions especially their graduate department.

The gre thing depends on you, I prepared in less than 5 weeks with no materials or lessons and ended up with 300 which is not good enough. I didn't read shit for toefl, not after all those Hollywood I watch. You call though. Good luck!

Oh... thanks for the tip, I'll go for this fall in that case. Most of the unis expect international applications completed before March. As for the GRE lol... u make me fear. I thought 300 was good enough o. Chei

You can look online for international versions of the book and buy. The cover is usually written in Chinese but content is English. I had a class last semester that the textbook was about 100$ on Amazon, I found the international version for about 27$.
