warriboy21: I am not an experienced guru but I can share a bit of what I have experienced and what I know. I would say the best sites to check are indeed.com and linkedin (Of course you should check you career services too). One tip I would give to people looking for internships, don't necessarily limit your choices to one geographical area. Some companies don't mind paying relocation and accommodation expenses during the summer internship. What you need to apply depends on what the organization asks for but most of them ask for your resume, referees and sometimes cover letter and transcript. I don't know about after graduation internship.....why apply for internship when you can get a full time job most organizations offer internships only to students that are returning back to school for at least one semester after the completion of the internship. Graduation to OPT is easy as long as you start applying early enough. Study the employment cycle. If you are graduating in December you don't want to start applying for jobs oct-dec, that's practically late (you can still get jobs o, but you have less options). Start early. Even summer internship applications should start by august/september of the previous year. The ideal situation is to get your job before you graduate so as to avoid stories that touch. Now this last portion is my own personal two cents, you don't need to do do them but it sure helps. When applying for internship, and you are asked if you would require sponsorship now or in the future, I suggest you say no. Even though you obviously want one but it helps your resume to go further in the recruitment process. Think about it this way, do you need sponsorship for internship? NO, the koko is that you have an internship for that period if you can impress them they might offer you a full time job and decide to file H1B1 visa. If not you apply to another company for full time job that does. Also if you can remove any reference to Nigeria on your resume e.g. Obafemi Awolowo University, 8 Likes |

warriboy21: Key is start applying as early as possible..for both internships and full-time jobs. For full-time, ideally you want to have at least one offer in hand before you graduate-or things might become tricky with OPT timelines. Brand yourself-highlight your skills on your resume/LinkedIn profile. The indians you mentioned apply to hundreds and hundreds of openings way before they graduate. Don't limit yourself, especially if you're apply for an entry level position. Connect with recruiters from those companies you apply to on Linkedin too, and drop them a note. Shouldn't be that hard to get something. 1 Like |

landuseact: thanks boss.. u really made it clear.i appreciate. one more question is that , does internship application or opt require a tight resume' ? what about those that dont have any experience at al, would companies consider them for internship and opt.?..... is masters degree enough for us employers of labour/ or do i need more certification? |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by landuseact: 5:05am On Feb 01, 2016 |
warriboy21: I don't know exactly what classifies as tight resume, what do you mean by not having experience? do you mean work experience? If you did Youth service then that counts, if you are engaged in extracurricular activities or have been in the past, then put it on your resume. But no matter what you do, don't put something that can't be verified o. Not trying to be racist but Indians do this a lot but you don't need to. I know someone that after doing interview for internship, the company actually called the place she served in Nigeria. They verify lots of stuff here, so you have to be careful. If you want a certification that's cool but it isn't the most important thing in securing internship. Now if you dont mind me asking what are you studying and if you have seen any open vacancies so far what are the main requirements? 1 Like |

Any one with info? Both my Nigerian passport and the F1 visa on it will expire in June (2016) but my i-20 is valid till Sept 2017. I will be in Nigeria for spring break and I will like to renew my passport via dropoff after obtaining a new passport. Does anyone know how long it takes to get dropoff sorted out in Lagos for F1 visas? Or precautions I need to take; as in experiences with dropoffs. Thanks Zik Oye |

Good morning everyone. I got 277 in the GRE, yet to take TOEFL. Can I get into Texas A&M with this score. I want to study MPA. My GPA is 3.98 on a 5.0 scale. Can you suggest affordable schools that I can apply to with these scores? |

Ok so I've decided to do my masters degree in the united states.. I know the basic steps are.. 1.write GRE and toefl 2. Apply to the schools after you have done research and all that 3. Wait for admission 4. Get visa 5. Start school What I'm more interested is funding... Thats the ONLY thing I'm really worried about as I'm basically a one man riot and there's almost no way of getting a sponsor, so I'd like to know if its possible.. To get some sort of funding to cover tuition and other stuff and i wont have to look for millions of naira before i can think of schooling in the US. Please anyone that can help me out woth answers or advice will greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance. Also what time for admission should i be targetting that'll be perfect and timely. 1 Like |
