Thank you brother for sharing this with us. Farmers are wealthy people around the world. Its only in Africa they made farmers to be poor or our lazy attitude to work. I'm so glad you share this with us.

To others, Someone with a clear business mind can make this produce a value added product. You get constant supply from him and you extract the juice and bottle it (Nice packaging) to make it attractive.

I am experienced in making world standard juice from Agric produce. Lets develop our country by ourselves

God will be for us

Fresh cow dungs are high in ammonia (Nitrogen) when it touches young plants it burns them, besides E.coli are found in fresh dungs that can stick to vegetables and cause harmful diseases in human. Its advisable to compost most manure before use...3 months at least.

Finally am done reading the thread from page 1 down to here. Thank you jasperz and God bless you!

Also am grateful to all those who have been contributing regularly to the thread, may God bless you all. I have learnt a lot and what I feel like doing right now is drop my PC, go straight into the farm and start planting cucumber.

I have a problem which I know and that is inconsistency and a bit of procastination, but that will not be on this. Am ready to try this out as I already prepared a land for cucumber farming before I discovered this Thread. I stay in Enugu and I will Go out tomorrow to Agro shops and source for seed.

But I have few questions to ask.

1. Does Nursery have any significant advantage vs planting direct to the farm? I want to do the later.

2. Do I have to irrigate before the seeds germinate?

3. could this be a Good method of irrigation? Thanks!

There is a solution to cattle now. It's no longer a problem. Use Jatropha plant as a perimeter fencing. it repels cattle and also has economic value. if I knew this 2 in 2013, it would have saved me a lot. that's why we learn everyday.
pls how does one get this jatropha plant used 4 perimeter fencing?p

The 7 decisive factors in successful farming of cucumber. (Most of these rules apply to farming in general).

1. The most important factor is the SEED you are planting.
Is it a local or a foreign seed?
Is it an open or a closed seed?
Is it a hybrid or General seed?
These and more are the things you find out before ever purchasing seed for planting. Some seeds can produce 1tonne of cucumber per hectare each harvest, others can produce 500kg, 200kg, even as low as 50kg. And some can produce up to 2-3 tonnes. Under the same agricultural conditions. (A kG of cucumber sells for minimum of N150 in wholesale).
Another role the kind of seed can play is in deciding how long you can harvest. Some 3-5 times some 5-10times while a select few can go 15-20 times before they wither. (Other factors contribute to how long harvest lasts)

So, you can see that the type of seed used is a very very vital factor
Which variety of seed is the best?

okay, I feel the need to tell a story before I retire for the night. A couple of years back, I was at the MM airport in lagos, heading to abuja. Just as we were waiting for our boarding time. Some big men In kaftans came in an entourage and bought the whole seats in our plane.

These dudes where not up to 20 but correct me if I'm wrong, a plane has a minimum of 60 passenger seats
Well, we were asked to wait a tard longer for their next flight. Trust Nigerians na, see pandemonium. People dragging shirts and singlets grin. I just sat at a corner, folded my hands, dumbfounded.

In my head I was just reasoning this out. The poor ones are here killing themselves, while the big men have boarded our flight and are half way to Abuja.
There and then, I consciously decided to be in the big league. That incident makes me stretch myself, keeps me motivated, keeps me going.
.
Now, I got your hearts in the right direction, it's time to get your hands dirty! And I mean that, literally. Tomorrow I share the action plan. I just need 10 farmers who have farmland hot and available to indicate interest. 2moro the real work begins.

Incase you don't have any available to you now, but you are going to be ready by march, still indicate interest.

This thread is about to get sweaty. Fun time is over
I don't have a. Land nor a kobo in my pocket. In fact my life is a little shot of a disaster right now. Won't go into details but am inspired by your post. If u had a farm in lagos, I would have come to do an Internship in one of ur farms. But for farmers in lagos planing on working with jasper, I woundn't mind coming to work with you for a few months to garner experience before setting out on my own. Am on whatsapp :08111449003, daniel4izzle@gmail.com is my email.
