codedguy1:people really don't get it.. The 750 is even the problem.. My last month bill, I used 1000naira but my money was 1850 after adding charge.. Now imagine without the fixed charges plus the 40% increament. My money would have been 1400 or at most 1500 Which even pays me more.. Now I have to continue to pay for what I didn't use cos some people can't use their head. |

jideflows:that fixed charges is just too high, our government is not just helping the masses at all. they just keep implementing new ways of extorting us. May God deliver us from their den |
| Re: Senate Orders Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission To Suspend 40% Hike by Mike008(m): 6:04pm On Feb 16, 2016 |
codedguy1:The N750 fixed charge was still applicable even when the tariff was increased. According to Fashola, the fixed tariff was scrapped but in practice not. That move by NERC was unscrupulous and unacceptable they should refund what they have already gazumped. |

I still don't understand why some ppl are shouting good news when the fixed charge of #750 still continues. Extortion of the highest order. I believe the DISCOS will be very happy about this.Imagine #750 monthly on each meter whether you use light or not compared to a little increase in tariff which is pay as you use(PAYU). I can hardly exhaust #3250/235kwh units in 4 months but #3,000 fixed charge awaits me for 4 month. To me,it will be a good news only if the fixed charge can also be scrapped or reduced to #200. |

Populist decision. Foolish Senate order simply playing the gallery Senators are the shareholders in the DISCOs, TRANSCOs and GENCOs |

This is not a matter of no love between d executive nd legislative arms of government. D issue is dat d current administration is ultra-wicked said deputy senate president. Imagine a country where there is inconsistency in power supply what d new minister of power would do is 2 increase electricity tarrif, instead of him 2 look 4 how light will b consistent in d country. That is very bad of him. Chai Fashola there is God oh! |

lwise:it is not about mocking him but the reality on ground. With this development most of the investors would be scared to invest in such business although Fashola has alot of blame |
| Re: Senate Orders Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission To Suspend 40% Hike by dave07(m): 6:14pm On Feb 16, 2016 |
Very bad decision and if heeded may truncate the reform process in the industry. People should be more enlightened, you currently pay far more to use your phone than you spend on electricity bill. The cost pf production in both are quite wide apart. Let's be realistic, this senate decision is wrong! |
| Re: Senate Orders Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission To Suspend 40% Hike by adeomolisabi: 6:14pm On Feb 16, 2016 |
Apart from the question of whether the senate even has the authority to rule on such matters, this is nothing more than populist pandering to financial illiterates - of which Nigeria has no shortage. You all complain endlessly about the lack of constant power supply, yet when the government tries to make it financially worthwhile for the DISCOs to invest in improving their infrastructure, you complain that you're being cheated! Which one do you want, the "cheap" power supply that is almost never there, and which must be supplemented by dirty and expensive fuel for generators, or paying more for power that you can actually count on any hour of any day of the week? Those are really the only choices there are, as no one will extend funding to the DISCOs to improve their infrastructure if the DISCOs can't even demonstrate that they can charge enough to cover their current expenditure. Anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to sell you a pipe dream. |

codedguy1:Exactly. The electricity companies might go back to the old rates but why didn't they distribute metres across the federation in the first place. |

| Re: Senate Orders Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission To Suspend 40% Hike by Nobody: 6:25pm On Feb 16, 2016 |
Mike008:That is not totally correct. If you are having outstanding arrears still pending, you must pay them first before enjoying the new rates. For prepaid users not having outstanding balance, the new rates applies to them but for post paid, it would have taken effect from March electricity bills. Now that the senate has suspended them, we are going back to the old ways ie fixed charge of N750 plus estimated bills. |

Chai! Why are we so daft to celebrate this news. This is a deliberate attempt by the senators and their co-collaborators to deny Nigerians the desired improvement in power supply. Is it better for us to pay a fixed charge of N750 whether we enjoyed electricity or not? or pay for what we used even with the increased tariff that is reasonable when compared with the fixed charge? This is good news for the discos but not for the customers, because they will continue with their extortion of the customers through fixed charge without providing power especially the estimated customers. I hope this doesn't sail through. |

codedguy1:d senators are always our problem, before d increment, we have be telling them to scrap d useless 750 naira, now they stil want us to pay 750 for darkness, for them to force d coy to forcefully metered all house and retain or increase d old by 10percent |

President Buhari should put more money on education, see comments from nigerians, i don't blame the senate because they are true reflections of the citizens, 6k is sure even if there is no power or you don't use light for 8 months. That is what nigerians preferred |
| Re: Senate Orders Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission To Suspend 40% Hike by echodrum(m): 6:43pm On Feb 16, 2016 |
jideflows:the point is let Government improve on the electric supply first then ask people to pay even 50% they will gladly pay. You do not increase tariff upon your bad services and force your customers to buy it in expectation of good services. If any mobile tele company increase their tariff with bad services will you stay with them or move to another company? |
