The story has made front page on nairaland. Good thing, even though I'm not happy I didn't get the hits I deserve on my page when my post has been copied verbatim by many blogs including informationnigeria. But I believe we need to drum support for these innocent children in Akwa-Ibom and other parts of Nigeria where this barbaric practice still continues. For our information, Mrs Anja has 38 of such children with similar stories like Hope's in her care at the orphanage. http://jed360blog.com/2016/02/nigerian-witchcraft-child-neglected.html

Kevin Carter, the white South African photojournalist who took this attached photo in famine-hit Sudan around 1993 committed suicide in 1994 after winning a Pulitzer prize for the touching pics. He said he felt bad that he couldn't help the child after taking the award winning shot. Of course he received backlash for not helping. Sad some still engage in that practice of snapping pics to post in blogs instead of helping even in accident scene with dead bodies littered all around. I was even scared of posting the first photo of Ms Anja giving Hope water because I don't engage in sensational reporting just for hits. But when I saw the uncommon transformation, I was moved with joy. Surprisingly I got to see the post first in a foreign website while our naija blogging giants slept away on the story.

This child was in the streets for 8 good months. I'm sure several individuals who profess to be very religious must have passed by without lending a helping hand. The highest they must have done is maybe to throw a snack or food at the child. It took the tender, loving effort of a white lady to rescue this innocent child, now named Hope, from the claws of imminent death. So saddddd. Why don't we help ourselves in Nigeria? Whyyyyyy? sad

Perhaps you must have seen this heart-rendering photo online of a white lady giving a little child who looked dehydrated and malnourished a drink of water.

It is sad that such kind of photos could only emanate from Africa and it usually takes the effort of the foreign press to bring the attention of the world to their plight.

Sadly, the child in this photo is not from Darfur or any other war torn African enclave but is from Nigeria. Somewhere in Akwa-Ibom state where the issue of witch-craft is rife.

Story has it that the boy, who has been named Hope was left for dead on the streets by his family, who thinks he is a witch.

Hope survivied on the streets for eight months, feeding on scraps thrown at him by passers by.

Fortunately, on January 31, Hope was rescued by a Danish humanitarian aid-worker, Miss Anja Ringgren Loven, who discovered him naked, emaciated, and wandering the streets with his body riddled with worms.

Miss Anja, who has a Nigerian partner with whom she has a son, took Hope to the hospital where he was given a thorough bath. Thereafter Hope was treated of the worms and given blood transfusion to replenish his obviously depleted red blood cells.

Already, Miss Anja who runs a children orphanage, has received donations to the tune of $1 million from donors from around the world after asking the community for fund to settle Hope's medical bills.

She's hoping to build a hospital for neglected children like Hope besides giving Hope the best of treatment.

I'm actually still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that a "mother" left her child this young to be roaming about the streets abandoned and homeless.

I wish I knew the mother...
just so sad... I can't imagine how a mother could do that also.

It's poverty that causes these things, finally.

Yall have no idea the kind of man I am. Ignore what you see around here. cheesy

The reason I became very vicious is because the PDP supporters refused to be reasonable. Go back on my timeline before the election and you'd see a part of the real me. I hardly hate people and VERY good at charity. cheesy

Even as we speak, I have some yams and half a bag of rice in the trunk of my car, and as I drive around, I look out for people I think need them. Was driving along a street yesterday, saw a lady bathing her child outside, from the look of their crib, I just imagined she wouldn't mind the handout. Pulled over, called her attention and when she came over, asked her if she'd like to have some but she declined. cheesy

I just drove on.

Hopefully, will find someone real soon. smiley

I'm not what most of yall might think I am. wink

Re: The Amazing Transformation Of The Abandoned Nigerian "Witchcraft" Child by Nobody: 9:59pm On Feb 16, 2016
A lot of Nigerians are both religious and wicked!

What does it cost a villager to take him to the village police station?

Or what does it cost a villager to feed him till he/she can get him placed in a orphanage?

I repeat a lot of Nigerians are religious and also wicked!

is only God that know those that are serving in truth and spirit. a woman with tattoo all over her body would have ordinarily been marked as wayward, yet she has been the only one to see the need to save a dying innocent child.

Wow!! So goodsamaritans still exist in this world?
God bless her...
If only this same good news played out in the case of this old lady that died according to a story shared on BellaNaija. The worst part is that a so called Christian journalist saw her and didn't bother going the extra mile to save her.....so sad....

.....culled from BellaNaija....

Hello BellaNaija, thought to share this story.
On Sunday, while I drove to church, I saw an old woman on the road, (Cement Bus Stop area in front of St. Joseph Secondary School) passersby must have put a tyre in front of her to protect her from on coming vehicles.

She looked sick and needing help. I called 112 (Lagos State Emergency Number) to bring to their notice for possible medical attention or whatever assistance they could render. They had promised to move there swiftly.

After church, I headed back a little late at about 5pm. That was not my usual root but I took that route hoping not to find the old woman.

To my surprise, she was helplessly still there. I met some women who live across the road from where she was. Together we pleaded with some guys who helped put her by the side of the road. We then called this 112 over and over again.

Same stories, they never showed up. I gave her moi moi and some water which she blessed before eating. We asked her about her home, children and all. She talked very gently but not quite coherent. I saw her as someone who barely had a slight loss of memory which might be due to old age or sickness. She had a cloth and a bible in a white Nylon. Appears to me as someone who was on her way to or from church.

She also gave an account of how a Danfo tire had hit her after pulling out on motion. She said that was the last and only thing she could remember as she fell to the ground and the danfo didn’t stop. She also said her daughter’s name is Aisha. And she stays in Alfa nla opposite the mosque.

By now it was getting dark, I called back the emergency line and was asked to take her to the nearest police station. Disappointed, I dropped and went on to the police station. The police officers I met didn’t even seem interested.

“Here be hospital?” one of them said.

One later volunteered to go with me to where the woman was. I then suggested we go to the area where she said she lives just in case we could find her family or a lead to them. I was more shocked when I saw the police man disappear into the crowd immediately we got there. He never came back till we left.

Then I gave up hoping to go back and snap a clearer picture of her and perhaps send to a media house. On the side, I was also in search of old people’s home or there about.

But she was no longer there by dawn. I only prayed she’s safe and back home.

By Tuesday, I saw her not too far from there, shivering. I told myself I’ll stop by on my way form work. It was an express road.

I got to the office and a lady calls me from this number 070501881 (Leaving the last 2 digits out) saying she’s calling from Lagos state emergency to follow up on the case I reported on Sunday, I explained to her that the woman was still helplessly there. She said “Eeya…can you call to remind them again?“. I said “who are the them?” she said “112..or 797 or something like that.”
I said if you can’t order your colleagues to do their job, why should I be the one calling endlessly.
Then she goes ahead to ask me what their service was like

Me: awful
She: Will you recommend the emergency service?
At this point I just hung up

Sadly by Wednesday morning she had died.
By yesterday Friday her decomposing body is still there. (By that road that leads to old Abeokuta Express Way)

The so called emergency number kept asking if she is dead, “is she dead?” to which we (the women I met there and all those who tried calling the number for help for this woman) kept saying she’s alive but looks frail..not like she’s mad but looks like she’s suffering from loss of memory. I believe even if she’s a mental case since she’s elderly, harmless but helpless she should be catered for by the Government.

It seemed 112 had preferred if we were reporting a corpse.
Even the corpse now has been there 3 days and maybe counting.

When will this country really develop?

I was going to snap the decomposed corpse, but then I realized, being a journalist isn’t just about writing, it takes guts to snap and publish certain types of news image.

Which area is it in Akwa Ibom? Most humans have lost it. I remember the picture of the little Syrian boy whose body was found by the seashore. I also remember the Yazidi boy who lost his sight lying on his back due to the sun that dried the liquid in his eyes. his parents were fleeing from ISIS. He never made it. The world appears to have lost it's soul.
