I don't understand the meaning of feminists' gender equality especially from the context of marriage. Can someone please help with a logical explanation. This morning, I saw a woman slapping her husband in front of Trinity police station, Apapa. And just recently, a woman lawyer was reported to have slain her husband while he was asleep. Is this feminists' gender equality coming with a hidden intent to turn men into animals or what? |

inkon:The two examples you mentioned has nothing to do with feminism or equality for women. Feminism/equality is having the same rights for women as men meaning, if a woman has the same degree as you and applies for the same job she should be offered the same pay they would offer a man; women not being told by men what they are supposed to do with their bodies (circumcisions, wearing hijab, dressing a certain way so some religious zealots don't feel uncomfortable) It also means treating women with the same respect a man would get in a any situation (if a woman goes to buy a car, the sales man should not expect her to have her husband around to get a good deal on the car) Voting and holding govt office should not be something historic when a woman takes an office. Men should not be able to touch a woman just because she is dressed "sexy" you can look but don't touch in the same sense, it should work the other way around; if a woman tries to fight a man she should be treated with equal hostility if you go to a restaurant, a woman should pick up the check if you dress in ways other people dont like you should be strong enough to take the criticism if women feel like they can't get good jobs, then take a menial job and work your way up (this goes for everyone) Sleeping your way to the top will only earn you disrespect |

omega25red:Reasonably clear, but you missed my point, nonetheless. Your explanation entails of gender equality from literal view. Yes, they deserve all that. Every right thinking person will support that and I do. My question centered on feminists' interpretation of gender equality, as in their own version of the meaning. It's obvious that what you defined above have been overly twisted. I can give a whole lot of instances of besetting issues attributed to feminists' right activists. |

inkon:Agreed. A vocal minority of feminists are simply insane, but that shouldn't take away from the true purpose of feminism. Feminism is simply aiming for gender equality from the viewpoint of the oppressed gender. |
