My Own Reason For Increased Unemployment Rate In Nigeria by anath(op):
Unemployment rate in Africa has been alarming in recent time. The number of available job spaces are very few in comparison to the huge turn out of graduates every year in our institutions. The question is,what is really the cause of this high rate of unemployment in Nigeria to be specific?

To me the fundamental cause is that Nigeria is one way oriented which is education . The basic understanding of an average Nigeria parents for one to be rich, one needs to obtain a first degree, second degree and PhD without knowing that the world has grown from that age. Nigerian's parents may be right because if you don't have these results your chance of becoming great in life is very slim so one had to obtain them.

Another question is that what are these developed countries doing different to reduce unemployment level?

The answer is that they are not one way oriented rather diverse in their economy system. In these countries(developed),you may become rich and famous in anything u have flair for, you may choose to become a footballer not necessarily mean you must play for Chelsea FC but even Bristol city and u will still be successful in life. You may choose to be a musician no piracy will disturb you, you may choose to go into Hollywood piracy zero. You may even choose to be a policeman, taxi driver and still be successful.

The next question is that what does our government need to do different for our progress?

Improve our football league and make it attractive, improve other sports like rugby and athletics. Improve our Nollywood and other entertainment industry, improve our technical schools so that will can have more mechanics, carpenters, welders, electricians and bricklayers that have some basic educational knowledge and also encourage local farmers and commercial agricultural system .

In general for our economy to be revamp our orientation should be diverse. Everyone must not go to school to be successful, let people talent and flair sell them instead of doing what they wish not to do in life and become frustrated because they have no option than to do it.

This is half true, there's heavy piracy in the US but music and movie studios are always a step behind(not ahead) them. At least being a step behind is a starting point to curbing pirate activities.

As for the other professions there is a standard set in their payment. This standard ensures you can indulge in the work and see enough money at the end of the month to take care of a small(note the word) family. I'm sure its the reason on average they have about 2 - 3 children.

There is also the mindset aspect of their life; a man only has to fend for his children and pay for their tuition from when they are born till they turn 18 or 21, all the while grooming them on how to get employment because once they hit the age of being called adults they are left to fend for themselves - any money made by the parents after that period is for their own consumption not the children's. They can even force the children to pay rent if they'vnt moved out the house by then.

Nigerians like calling on government. Fact is, Government is suppose to be an umpire not a player. It only intervenes in critical situations. It's the private sector/enterprenuers that (should) drive the economy. The enterprenuers should take risks and reap profit ,hopefully. Competition should reduce price and make goods affordable , thereby increasing the standard lliving. Increasing demand for goods shud increase employment.
But in africa, government is clueless, sluggish and corrupt. The enterprenuers are exploitative, short sighted and greedy.
There set prices , holding customers to ransom. The government is greedy too- taxing as much as it can. Besides , tax always ensure that the governmnt will always have money.

Bros u are very right with excellent contribution, stil for private sector to explore available opportunity the government needs to create an enabling environment that will encourage them. Still we need diverse our economy, because everyone must not obtain PHD. Thanks bros
