I had been in exchanging emails with both the grad cord and the office manager at the department (not the graduate school). SO I simply sent my credentials to the graduate cord, office manager of the department and to the graduate office including a screenshot of the application fee payment confirmation page. Will be glad if the decision can be that fast though.

Kk that's cool sharp guy.

hi gurus please I need your advice once again
I am currently filling a grad assistantship form which requires me to indicate the kind of assistantship I would prefer out of three ( Teaching Assistantship, Research Assistantship, and Service Assistantship)
To say the truth I really want to underline the three but on the other hand I am thinking I might look desperate. so my question is
1. if I indicate all three, does it make me a desperate, unserious applicant that doesn't know what she wants?
2. if I indicate only research assistantship, wont I be depriving myself of the other two opportunities ?
3. if I indicate only research assistantship, will they automatically review my application for the other two?

.
NOTE : I have some experiences in all three forms of assistantships at least I have been teaching for some years now.
I need this funding seriously... please help a sister.

What most schools do is to ask you rank in order of preference. Since this is not the case with you, do as instructed. Just choose the one you think you are most suitable for. And tilt some aspects of your application to reflect experience in the one you prefer. You need not worry yourself. If you are qualified for what you want, you will get it. Good luck, sir.

Like godG said, don't worry yourself too much. You can't do all at the same time. Don't forget that you have your school course load there too. They will give you the one that best matches your profile even if you check all. Note, you don't get research assistantship position if you're going for non thesis option. Since you haven't spent at least one semester in the school, for teaching assistantship, you may only help with grading etc but not the main teaching.

Choose the three forms of financial aid. You won't seem desperate.

Most schools consider you for all available aid by default. Grad schools understand that funding is very important to applicants.

Imperioux and godG, Great answer!

So that means it is no risk ticking all options?
Permit me to ask a follow up question:

I like your description of the TA role: Grading. Is that how it is in all the graduate schools in US?

It's different for alot of schools, For instance, in the "flagships" all you can do as a GTA or TA is take lab classes as a master's student, or grad assignments, or rather take undergrad classes. But the screening procedures have gotten alot stiffer, lots of seminars, lots of training because all those small pickins wey never travel out of there "village" go set u up for thier failure

1. Usually within a week.
2. Yes. You need some info on your I-20 to pay SEVIS, you need SEVIS receipt for your interview.

Now let me tell my story. it all started like this. my uncle called me 2013 to start my application to a US university that he is ready to carry all d expenses. I Neva answered him but he keep pressing on me to start the processing.
well I started application to schools I got admission and my visa was approved last year. when I called this man he changed his mind DAT he is not ready to sponsor again that there is no money. Well with faith my parent gather the money dey had and the money I saved n I got to the state January 2016 with no instate waiver. But immediately i got to school I started going to financial aid office and I got scholarship. I also met a Nigeria who introduced me to an African professor n through that professor I got a graduate research assistant job which I will start next week. It has just been God. its not easy to survive in this country.

Plenty of dumbo universities and colleges that will take money and give you a certificate that is only any good to wipe your bottom with.
School that does not want TOEFL or GRE is low grade school for low grade students.

Better to take TOEFL or GRE and go for better school. If money is too much then think of other countries that Obamaland!
Thanks a lot for ur advice, buh can a visa be granted without d TOEFL and GRE during d embassey interview

The visa officer may ask why you picked the school. (you must gain admittance first)
How are you going to answer?
Will you say
"I could not pass exam."
or "I could not afford exam"
Both will get you a rejection.

Up to you if you want to try, it's your money to waste.

Most MS grads are TA graders and instructors for pre labs for the first year undergrads. PhD candidates are given RA and TA since PhD means research and teaching is part of the degree. PhD students are given 1 or 2 level down. Depending on teaching skills. For the MS students, your control of your native accent and teaching skills would be weighed first. Dont forget that at the end of every semester you would be reviewed by your students just like for every instructor in the school. If you come out bad in previous semester but you're in good academic standing to maintain your GA position, the graduate school will put your in any other available position or you automatically lose your GA until the next semester.

My first semester GA was to help in biochemistry research lab (beginning of my thesis), second semester was to instruct pre-lab for 300L Org. Chem, third was prep the lab for 400L advanced biochemical method and fourth was assisting another TA in 100L intro Chem lab. They made me assistant to another mate because by then I was concluding my thesis and defense.... Work load was too much.

Try to avoid giving advice based on a single experience and then generalizing it.
It's morally wrong to say students try to set TA's up for failure. Why would they do that? Even if they did, doesn;t mean that's the way students behave everywhere in all schools in the US. Come on man.
I been a TA , i have been an RA. I had fun doing both and i enjoyed it. Students were nice and courteous.

Try to give advice devoid of your personal opinions because you risk biasing someone's experience.

Aside the demanding schedules, being a TA or RA is fun! Some of your students will send a "Thank You" email to you and you will instantly forget all your worries.
