In this case....who privatised power?

Sorry....but it was not Buhari.

You can blame Buhari for many things....but not the tariff raise....especially as it was done by private companies...not by the government...based on an agreement signed by GEJ and co....when he was in power.
I hope you are aware that obj privatized power? But, no problem, just blame gej as lie Mohammed has instructed

Historical revision.

When were the dicsos set up?

Who saw the privatization to its logical end?

OBJ just changed NEPA to PHCN......GEJ did the actual privatizing.....sorry if the truth hurts.

Anyway....from blaming Fashola....it is now OBJ's fault?.....Come on guys..make up your mind!

(On a more serious note....I see noting worng with privatisation. I just find it funny that you are blaming APC for a process/POLICY started by GEJ).

Sorry to rain on your parade guys.....but

It is GEJ.....your dear GEJ'S fault.

GEJ privatised the power sector.....meaning that prices had to go up, because government is no longer funding the power sector anymore. So the DISCOS had to get money....and it had to be tarrif raises.

Plus....the increase was a part of the agreement with the DISCOS signed when GEJ was in power.

So...stop blaming Fashola. He has nothing to do with this.

Wailers.....it is never their fault....even when it is.
look @ ur neighbour and say, "neighbour, have you blame GEJ today?"

APCist with the blame games. why nor blame Jonathan for Nigerian independent too?

Considering the fact that privatization happened when GEJ was in power.....I should say that this time,it is his fault.

Once GEJ sold the power system to the DISCOS and GENCOS.....that meant that government was no longer in charge of power.

And that meant an increase in tariffs....because the power sector was no longer being funded by government.

Hence it being GEJ's fault.

(That is why APC chieftains like Atiku were calling on Buhari to reverse the DISCO sale....but that would have led to serious legal complicaitons).

Once privatization happens....prices go up. That is what happened with the GSM thingie.

I am ready to blame Buhari for other things....but increase in tariff is GEJ's fault so to speak. (I actually think privatisaton is a good idea....but you Nigerians....APC and PDP don't.).

I don't know how true this tariff comparison is. In South Africa where I resided for sometime, we payed about 1.5 Rands per KWh of Electricity, which is roughly about 27 Naira per KWh. My monthly electricity bill was roughly about 6300 Naira per month. I can't say of Egypt because I have never lived there...
How stable is the power supply over there compared to Nigeria? Here we can't boast of 6hours of power supply in a day that is if I am not exaggerating. My 14 months old son knows when there is power supply, and his mood suddenly swings once it is out. Is this the future we want for our children?

i agree with you 100%. i was wondering N6300 for 1 month !!!!!!!!

with the old tariff i was using about N25k per month with 12hrs supply daily o! then now with new tariff, im almost using N40k per month with 9hrs supply daily.

abeg all those bio-diesel, garbage-to-light and its likes, i need una contact. im ready to try any other source of power.

You guys are confusing ESTIMATED BILLING with Actual cost of Electricity! If the 9hrs of electricity you used in the month is computed at the 16.5/KwH, even if you were to put on 30 ACs and use 20KW each hour, you be paying 20 x 16.5 x 9, which is N2,970.00

But as normal, your Disco will charge you an ESTIMATE OF PROJECTED USAGE, which could, and usually is, crazier than your actual cost. To help yourself, get a Pre-Paid Meter to ensure you ONLY pay for the hours of electricity that you enjoy.

Who says those are the highest rates in Africa In Cameroon I pay the equivalent of 35 N/Kwh... Sometimes higher than that, because the higher your consumption the higher your per unit charge. That is not even the end of the story. 19.25% (Tax) of my consumption is again added to my consumption. I have been on this forum for so many years and can categorically say most Nigerians complain over everything. I could not help laughing when people were complaining on a 50N charge by CBN..LOL 11 cubes of sugar costs 50N in Cameroon..

Good, i guess that is why that assertion was not backed with any instances and figures.

The major problem is not necessarily the current planned tarriff or the number of hours that the power supply is available, it is the estimated billing, which must be corrected with provision of smart prepaid meters.

With a prepaid meter, will you be charged for the period there is no supply?

Certainly not! That is why prepared meters have to be supplied first before any corresponding increase...

You left out the part of the agreement with Jonathan's government that required the DISCOs to provide prepaid meters for customers. Buhari's government needs to ensure that the DISCOs provide meters before any increase in tariff is allowed. That is the part where Fashola should be blamed. Or do you want Jonathan to come back to enforce that requirement?

The DISCOs are deliberately not giving out prepaid meters. If they issue every customer a prepaid meter, they can not make enough to pay monthly salary. That is why they make it frustratingly difficult and expensive to get one. A staff at EKEDC told me that it would take 6 months to get one. And that is after paying about 60,000 Naira for the meter that they are required to supply for free.
It is irresponsible of this government to allow these DISCOs to be stealing from the citizens.
